i DIY-ed a BHLDN wedding veil for $20 (wedding DIY)

- My sister and I fell in love with a $300 BHLDN wedding veil and I DIY-ed it for $20! Sewing the pearl beads took the most time, but honestly- it was a really relaxing activity I enjoyed doing every night. You can make this veil with or without the pearl beads, just give yourself enough time if you’re planning on adding the beads! (I sewed for an hour or two at a time, about 2-3 nights each week, for 2 months lol. I purposefully started this project early so I wasn’t rushing and I had plenty of time. I would put FRIENDS on tv and sew while I was watching. It was a great way to wind down at night time!) Be sure to watch til the end to see my beautiful sister in her custom made veil on her wedding day : )
You will need
-tulle or mesh fabric (see below for measurements)
-hair comb
-thread
-needle
-cutting board and rotary cutter or very sharp scissors
-3 mm, 4 mm, and 6 mm pearl beads
Tulle/mesh length needed (width of fabric should be at least 63 inches, but for a more full veil you can get “double width tulle)
-shoulder: 22 inches + 5 inches extra **
-fingertip: 45 inches + 5 inches extra**
-ankle: 70 inches + 5 inches extra**
-chapel: 90 inches + 5 inches extra**
-cathedral: 108 inches + 5 inches extra **
(**add 5 inches to any length below, to account for trimming the edge, and for gathering at the top!)

The veil they used in the boutique to seal the bridal vision was absolutely perfect and everything i was looking for... but it was $250! I'll be using this tutorial to recreate it! Let's just hope i can get the motivation to sew on all those pearls by november.
If you start now and do maybe an average of 8-10 pearls each day or so, you can definitely have it done before november🥰!!!

My wedding in is two and a half months and I realized this morning I had never ordered my veil. And now it would be too late. Your video helped me feel confident I can do this myself. I don't think I will add all the pearls but was thinking I could do them along the bottom few inches.

You did a lovely job and the hand-stitching it makes it so nice I would like to suggest that aleene's Jewel it glue dries clear and you just need a little dab and you put your Pearl on and you can't even see it when it dries of course it's not nearly as nice as what you did but there's a hard to tell the differences
Thank you so much for the suggestion! I think for any other outfit or costume i would have definitely used aleene’s glue :) but for my sisters wedding i guess part of me wanted to throw my blood sweat and tears into something for her big day:)

I'm debating doing this to save a few hundred dollars. How many hours would you say it took to sow on the pearl beads?
hi cristina! once you get the hang of sewing them, it goes by relatively quick, and it all depends on just how many beads you want on there. i'd say total hours of sewing would be around 24-36 (we used a LOT of beads!) but keep in mind a lot of it was "passive activity" meaning- i would sew these things on while i was watching tv at night! if you make a goal of sewing 10-20 beads in each day you'll be able to reach your goal quicker : ) for me it was definitely worth it to make it and save the money! but also it was nice to have a personal touch from me on my sister's wedding day! : ) good luck! feel free to message me at theresalwaysroom4@gmail.com if you need any help!

which material that you use to making her veil? mesh or tulle?
I chose the mesh because i wanted it to be flowier! The tulle had a little more structure
So which one is better? Tull or mesh ?
really depends on if you want a softer, more flowy veil (go with mesh) or a more stiff/structured veil (go with tulle)! hope that helps!

Yes!! You can ask for a fine mesh, or a flowy bridal tulle!
