I don't understand why people buy a car and sell it the next or same year? Took me 6 months just to make up my mind. I had it narrowed down to 4 cars pretty quick and I toiled over the decision for months on paper!! Then like a dummy I finally test drove them and the decision was obvious 😂. Next time I'm not going to wait so long before test drive, but I certainly don't want to go through that stress again for awhile, and I've only had my car a little over a year.
@@Morenitto89 yeah man I got the N. I bought it in Macon Georgia. They actually tried to mark it up to 38k, but no one was biting. After 30 days they lowered the price to MSRP, and I picked it up. I did manage to get a discount for being a veteran too, so technically I got it for$500 under retail. That was April of 2019 and a bunch of dealerships were trying to mark them up like the Civic type R. No one around this neck of the woods was going to pay that ridiculous price even though it is a great little car, it's not worth 38k. I didn't have the Camaro on my list to be honest. I have had a few Chevy's in the past and except for a 1973 Nova they seemed to get old and rattly pretty quickly. I've had much better luck with japanese cars, mainly Honda's. My first choice on paper was the Civic type R and although more expensive, I figured I'd just have a little bit higher payment and deal with it, but when I drove the Veloster N, I dropped that idea. I'm sure it is much more noticeable on a race track but to me the Veloster felt every bit as potent as the Civic.. in fact it felt better. They are just different cars, the Veloster felt compact and surgical in its handling. It's one of those cars that you almost feel like it's a part of your body, it's so engaging. Not to take away from the Honda, but I was wanting something that felt light, small and fast, and that is why I opted for the N. Plus it's got perfectly useable space and the dimensions are great. Can't say enough good about it, I'd definitely buy another if I had it to do all over. Definitely test drive your cars and see what "fits" you. They're both really badass, and I probably should have tried the Camaro, but I sat in one a few years ago and I didn't like the visibility thing either, so I didn't consider it seriously. To be honest, I didn't think I would buy a Korean car, but I bought this car to keep long term, so I wasn't as worried about resale value in the next couple of years... Besides that, it feels as solid and tight as any japanese car I have ever been in. Add to that, that Albert Bierman designed it and it is a dang winner!! Take care, good luck with your choice, I don't think you can go wrong either way.
Yep I've been lucky enough to get one of the last batch of Veloster N that came from Korea here to Canada before they stopped production. They discontinued it cuz they're not making as much money from it anymore or not much people are buying it. They also wanted to focus more on the Kona N or Elantra N which are hot in the market right now.
If Hyundai keeps of with this quality I can pretty much confirm that these will become extremely popular, especially now that the Civic and Golf are their main competition. Would be nice to see a future trim level that gives a better interior, they could take a note from Mazda if they want a nice but inexpensive interior.
it's definitely a future classic in tune with the the 90's civics, that's for sure. I can only hope that the rest of the hyundai and kia lineup can get their acts together and really polish up to solidify the brand's place in the market.
Did they mention the HP after the tune? what computer used when retuned? I cant wait for them to take the engine apart and install some forged internals!
Owned a Veloster Rspec, track suspension upgrades similar to the rally edition that came in later years, and the car felt like a go-cart around town. My spine basically was the suspension on the car. The Veloster is a very light car allowing for quick acceleration off the line (struggled for power at higher speeds) and brake extremely late. 0-60-0 was where the fun was for that car. The major problem is, with the 1.6L engine you have to give it all the beans if you want it to do anything fun/interesting. The car is absolutely gutless without boost as I believe the max boost out of the factory is almost 20psi(18 maybe? I don’t remember) I drooled over the 2.0L turbo engine that was in my friends sonata. 260hp in a veloster would have been a lot of fun. The major downfall to these “hot hatch” cars is the FWD only options. Asking the front wheels to deliver 300+ hp AND steer the car is just too much. My 05 Cobalt SS had the exact same issue putting the power to the ground. Wheel hop and torque steer are serious issues that plague FWD only cars. Especially when you get higher HP rating. I believe Chevrolet made a book that told you exactly which parts to replace at certain HP increments all the way up to 1400hp. Yes it is possible to make huuuge number from these small displacement engines, but how much of the engine is even factory at that point? Just the block of engine? My older brother owned a 1991 Taurus SHO with a supercharger on it that made 405hp to the front wheels and if you pushed the gas to the floor in first-third gears you would change 2-3 lanes to the left and there was almost nothing you could do about it the torque steer was so powerful and overwhelming. Nobody was allowed to drive the car in the rain as that was a recipe for disaster. The biggest improvements technologically that benefit cars currently is a DCT transmission for instant shifts and AWD for traction.
I love my Veloster N, it's so much fun to drive. The only consequence is the dealer network which is easily the worst customer experience I've ever had!
I already have one year with my Veloster N and it's been excellent. Well watching this video makes kind of mod my car, too. I have a question does adding a downpipe will avoid my warranty?
Man that dyno reads really low. Stock VN performance package get usually anywhere from 230-248 WHP. With just stock turbo a piggyback tuner and bolt ons people are getting like 280+ whp.
@@FailwhaleCDN 28% in powertrain loss? In a fwd of all things? Nah, that can't be right. But then I realized op was rounding numbers. 220 whp vs 275 hp @ crank. ~20% loss, which is still a lot imo.
A handful of the parts are not being sold atm (downpipe, exhaust, inter cooler) so its hard to give an accurate estimate. I would say if you did all the work yourself it would cost between 6-8k USD for everything they put on there. The suspension setup would be around $600, $1400 for wheels/tires, $3000 for turbo/exhaust/tune/inter cooler. $800 for roof rack setup. IMO that's a great deal especially if you just want one part of the setup.
GuidedPrism [G.E.W.P] Id say honestly with the exhaust, downpipe, intercooler and piping, with bov alone is already pushing 3500+ even 4K in total Por just the power mods. Stock location turbos run around 2000k plus for almost any new car. 02 housings for 500, intercooler 600 ish, bov 250, exhaust honestly 700. So we’ll over 3.5k for power mods(Boltons+ bolt on stock location turbo)
There's a company that came out at sema with a prototype wheel that gives fwd cars awd capabilities. If this technology get further developed, it'll be a game changer.
Tuning doesn't seem like a good idea, there's also a problem with stability. The company set it up for the car, but I don't think it's a bit of a change, like cpu overclocking ...
All you do is adjust the air fuel with the setup then its safe but 400+ hp you would have to look at internals pistons and rod.Be nice to see a set of new cams that would help on a stock engine some. There is more involved with overclocking a CPU then adjusting the values in an ECU.
