Probably yes but not for the reason most believe. I feel like a lot of people forget that the importance given to the treaty is in itself Nazi propaganda... or more exactly DNVP propaganda. The DNVP were the ones who put importance into the treaty and directly attempted to overthrow the Young plan despite it being beneficial for Germany. It incidentally ended up being said campaing which revived the NSDAP and made the nazis the major right wing party over the DNVP because the businessmen lost all trust in the DNVP and realized Hitler was more charismatic. Still, I think the major factor is the great depression and the Z doing nothing about and the SDP deciding to compromise on doing nothing. But the versailles treaty had the effect of leading to the DNVP shooting itself on the foot and leading to the rise of Hitler.
The Reichsmark was literally reduced to wallpaper by 1924. The Treaty of Versailles was pretty much ineffective. All it did was kick the proverbial can down the road giving us the Third Reich and World War II. The dismal failure that was the League of Nations didn't help matters whatsoever either.
The treat of Versailles wasn’t really inefficient, it were the countries enforcing the treaty after the war. France and GB both new that their population wouldn’t stand for another war, just after WWI and that neither of their countries were prepared for one. That lead to a treaty enforced on a nation more powerful and willing to fight then the nations enforcing the treaty.
Nice, a video about the Weimar Republic! In my eyes the Weimar period is the most interesting period in European history. History with Hilbert has a great series on the Weimar Republic in which he goes into how it was formed, what made it vulnerable, its downfall and all the important issues plaguing it. Also, Guy Bloke has a funny video about the Weimar Republic.
It's _Stresemann_ . Also, him saying "oh shit" when the Great Depression hit would be quite astonishing, as he died a few weeks before that (on Oct 3rd 1929).

CGP Grey fans who have watched “rules for rulers” will note that the ability to cancel reparations payments is a pot of money you can offer to your keys to power.
From what I understand of history, Germany wasn't guilty of causing WWI any more than Britain and France were guilty of causing WWII by "joining" their ally Poland in war. Germany, in WWI, was allied to Austria-Hungary, so when they declared war, Germany was bound to join them. When Poland was threatened by Germany, Britain and France "declared war" on Germany, though did absolutely nothing to stop them. Britain and France abandoned Poland but remained at war with Germany.
And to be fair, the treaty of Versailles was absolutely and wholly unjust, punishing Germany (and Austria-Hungary) for the war in a way that completely destroyed their economy to the point of ruin, and even removed the German monarch, causing the instability that led to the Weimar Republic. I'm not sure what the Western Powers hoped to accomplish by destroying the German state (by the way Germany wasn't even invited to the peace negotiations in WWI), but it's not surprising to me that extremism took hold. Germans were impoverished, starving, and desperate following the "Great War." Any people in such a situation would be looking not only for someone to blame, but for a solution. All the events that followed, whether intended or not, are as much the fault of the Western Allies as they are the Nazi Party. The Nazi's wouldn't have existed except for the injustices done to Germany after WWI.
Germany promised Austria that they would back them no matter what, this blank check issue is a big part of why Germany gets blamed. If Austria wasn't told it could do whatever it wanted and still have German protection it may not have been bold enough to risk war with Russia by invading Serbia. Also, Germany was at the heart of many of the pre-war build-ups, like Wilhelm dramatically increased tensions between Britain and Germany during the Anglo-German Naval Arms Race which is part of the reason the alliance systems formed the way they did. Then the matter of the peace treaty, if you look at the treaty of Brest-Litovsk, Germany enforced much harsher conditions on Russia than the allies enforced on Germany so it's a little hard to be sympathetic there. There wasn't much reason to invite Germany to the peace conference in fact doing so may have made the problem worse, the only difference between the peace treaty and an unconditional surrender was words, if the German government had been invited to the peace conference nothing would have changed and their reputation at home may have tanked even further.
I think it's also worth noting that the republic actually was on an upturn after 1923 till the market crash in the US lead to an economic catastrophe. Besides that I think it's also important to note that the Nazi party never got much over 1/3rd of the vote in free elections, and it was only later elections where other parties were already disbanded (through political dealings or straight up violence) that they got a majority

Thanks for the new video! And nicely done too--an excellent encapsulation of the Weimar Republic.
"one day for no reason at all..."
First and thank you for this I always want to know more about the Weimar Republic.
History with Hilbert has a bunch of videos on the subject
Nice, a video about the Weimar Republic! In my eyes the Weimar period is the most interesting period in European history. History with Hilbert has a great series on the Weimar Republic in which he goes into how it was formed, what made it vulnerable, its downfall and all the important issues plaguing it. Also, Guy Bloke has a funny video about the Weimar Republic.
It was the worst time in Europe- post ww1.

DeutSches Reich is missing an S in this video. In German the "sh" sound like in "sheep" is written as "sch", not just "ch".
It also did not help to allow party seats with too small a share of the vote - that is a problem that most countries with proportional representation tend to avoid.

RUclips:you win this time......kraut
I love your channel keep up the great stuff

"every man is a millionaire" - germany 1923
*a wet dream that went down hill*
I think it's also worth noting that the republic actually was on an upturn after 1923 till the market crash in the US lead to an economic catastrophe. Besides that I think it's also important to note that the Nazi party never got much over 1/3rd of the vote in free elections, and it was only later elections where other parties were already disbanded (through political dealings or straight up violence) that they got a majority
