Starting with the 2020 Rav4, they all come with the under hood insulation to quiet down the engine noise. (you can add it to the 2019). There are many customizable options that the owner can change, like unlocking all doors when the drivers handle is opened, some sound and safety settings are adjustable by the owner as well.
Rode in a 2019 RAV4 on an Uber ride. There is a sensor in the rear seats that detects when someone is sitting there but isn’t wearing their seatbelt. The alarm kept beeping even though we were wearing our seatbelts.
Manny! Thank you! Unfortunately I am not -yet prepared for a new Rav but am definitely in the market for Toyota Rav 4. Any suggestions for a great year for a used Toyota Rav 4
That's a good question and that will depend on what you are looking for and where you live. Different markets have different suppliers to build the Rav4. I would check online for owner's feedback and consult a mechanic/technician.
My question is which was a better year... 14 or 15. Any major differences? I will prefer a limited as I live in Denver and want to drive the I 70 corridor without an issue with getting over the continental divide
Well my rav is now 12yrs old 2007, is have had it since new and other than an exhaust middle box a couple of batteries and regular servicing it has had no faults whatsoever! I do question its reliability though as on its last mot inspection a headlight bulb (original) needed replacement !!!!
one thing you did not note: The spare tire well is large enough to upgrade from the factory dummy to a full sizespare tire. However, the larger tire will cause you to lose the option to hide the tonneau cover within the well. (I don't use the tonneau cover often so I store mine in the garage). I was unaware of the remote open window hack. Thanks for the info.
I to put a full size spare tire in my 2020 Rav 4. When it was time for new tires I saved one of the best old ones and bought a matching wheel off ebay. Mounted the tire on it and I now can drive as far and fast as I want with out worry of the temporary tire giving out. You have to do a little re aranging with the jack but it will fit.

It's surprising and disappointing to me that sales people are learning about the products that they are selling by going to RUclips, etc. My sales guy was woefully uneducated about the vehicle that he sold me. The service manager has proved to be inadequately trained as well.
@@deionmoore10 2019 AWD LE Rav4. The sales guy didn't fully understand how the stop/start system worked, and there were several other things he had no answer for (about drive train differences between some of the trim levels) and the service manager didn't understand some of the stop/start settings either. He actually gave me bad info. The service manager also told me that manufacturers don't use clear coat anymore either! My wife used to sell cars for a dodge dealer, and they made sure that their people were well trained on incoming models. I was really surprised at the lack of product knowledge when I bought my Rav4.
Manny, The buttons on each of the display are hard for me to read in the day time. I have tried turning up the brightness from dash but still not good. Any secret method?
You asked why I would want my lights on all the time. Guess I wrote that wrong. I want them on all the time when I’m driving. When it’s parked in the garage and turned off I want the lights to go off as well.
Sorry if I'm reading it incorrectly. You would like the lights to be on day & night but would like them to turn off immediately after engine shutdown or, you would like the lights to turn off immediately (while set in auto) when you shut down the engine (turn off the car).
HI. First video of yours and it was very informative. What do you think about the 2016 RAV4 for a new driver?I drove before but have not driven in about 20 years (long story). I want something that is reliable and that I can handle.
Manny Drives Thank you so much for responding. I appreciate it. My son just bought a 2016 Honda CRV, but the CVT transmission worries me, as I haven't heard good reviews about it. That's why I was leaning towards a Toyota. I know both Honda and Toyota make good, reliable vehicles. Guess I'm stuck deciding between those two.😟
JUST SAYING No problem. I agree with you on the CVT. Toyota has drown a line with CVT and “regular” transmissions. Anything 2.5L and bigger gets a regular transmission. Engines that are smaller get the CVT. If you do decide on the Honda CRV then try to find one with the 2.4L naturally aspirated. Think 2014 is the last year but i don’t know if those are CVT. You’ll need to check.
Barely. Like most "semi-autonomous" driving cars these days it's not to be trusted. 90% of the time it works great, other 10% of the time... Well let's hope your paying attention. I've tested this many times on my 2019 Rav4 😊
@@James-rd9mo It also shuts itself off if it detects you aren't driving. Perhaps it detects there is no resistance when it turns. It also tends to follow the right paint line toward an exit, which makes no sense to me.
So I just watched the video on how to remove the cross bars on my 2021 Toyota Rav 4. I love a moon roof but I don't understand why Toyota placed the cross bar over the moon roof. I tried to slide the crossbars back but they are set on a hole already in the side rails. It's really hard to drive with the moon roof open with the cross bars over the opened window, the sound is similar to a plane flying overhead. Having grown up near JFK Airport in NY, I know what a plane flying overhead sounds like. Does anyone have a solution to this situation besides taking the crossbars off completely. Other than this situation I love my 2021 Toyota Rav 4. I traded in my 2018 and it's a great car.
In my case windows cannot be opened by smart key on default but if to press three times LOCK button and then hold this button, it will activate the remote start. Same way to stop it. 2019 RAV4 Hybrid Limited with Remote Start activated.
Mikhail Oparin Thank you for mentioning this remote start ability. My sales rep didn't even know much about the Rav4 and while viewing info online line I have not yet heard of this. Thank u much!
You can also set the Remote for remove start. You have to get the service text to unlock the feature but you push the unlock button three times and hold to start
Does the RAV 4 have climate control that starts the engine to charge the battery like the Prius does? I would love it for car camping!!! The cabin looks so much nicer than my 2011 Prius... saving my pennies...
Yes it does just got a hybrid xse rav4 2 days ago. I can take a nap with full ac love it. Engine only goes on if battery goes low. It will start recharging the battery the shut off after a few minutes.
It was a good review, very informative. I love when this guy comments #4 on the new deadening engine cover, but then says, like everyone else, that the car is definitely louder than the previous model...That cover sounds like a real upgrade. I'd go for the Hybrid Rav4, it partly runs on the electric motors, but more importantly has some noise-canceling material under the hood. He also mentions the big 1cf increase in cargo space, but fails to mention that the 2019 shrunk by 2.5 inches in overage length and has lost over 1.5 inches of front-seat legroom. Why make people space when you provide fractional cargo space? Maybe in the future, Toyota can provide better seating areas with a slidable second seat to increase infrequently used cargo space.
wind7sailor Toyota has fixed the sound after the complaints. The gas Rav4 built today is more quiet than the time I made this video. Why would it matter if the vehicle is shorter but gets more space?
You forgot one cool feature that not too many people think or bother to see it.. I have 2019 XLE Toyota RAV4 once you put your keyless key in pocket and you walk towards your vehicle at night all interior light light up.. Try tell me what you think😊 Alan

Why won't the windshield defogger button come on my 2020 rave4 LE after its set to come on when I start the engine to warm up and melt snow of the windshield the next day by using my remote key fob? All 2020 rav4s do this. Thanks.
Your Rav4 LE should continue with the last climate settings when turned on again. Try engaging the windshield defog (not the wiper de-icer over your left knee) before you turn off your car. Then while stand beside you vehicle, use the remote start. It been awhile but it should have the same defog engaged.
@@mannydrives I respectfully disagree. It turns the car off when you enter. Most remote starts just have you press the ignition button again, but the car does not have to be re-started. That so called "safety feature" goes too far. 👎🏿
@@cfoster6804 It takes away from the point of using a remote start, if you get in then have to start the vehicle a second time. I've had other vehicles and you only start the car once and when you enter you press the ignition button to continue, but the car did not shut back off first. That step seems unnecessary and there was never a safety issue.

So if there is a feature to program the keyfob to unlock doors and open all windows, can it also be programmed to lock the doors and close all windows? I asked my dealer and he had no clue. It would be a great asset if it did this.
I guess Toyota thought people with hybrids don't want to hear the motor while those with just a motor want to hear all that power coming out of the 4 cylinder :-P

I thought it would be click bait, but this video was awesome!
afalzon21 cheers.
Rode in a 2019 RAV4 on an Uber ride. There is a sensor in the rear seats that detects when someone is sitting there but isn’t wearing their seatbelt. The alarm kept beeping even though we were wearing our seatbelts.
I unbuckled my driver seatbelt at a drive through. The car went into parking brake & would not drive forward until I buckled it back on!
We had the same problem, also a lot of wind noise on the test drive and the salesperson was seriously miffed when we said thanks but no thanks.
It will do that if you don't have the right buckle to the right connector.
I love mine!
First timer..Excellent snd thanks!
Thank you and welcome.
Thanks Manny, you da best! You do know your Toyota’s!
Linda Jamme you are welcome and again I apologize for the miscommunication. So, I can safely assume it work?
Manny!
@@skarhealb57 those are good years. No difference between the two Limited years except the 2015 Limited was available in colour called hot lava.
I just learned something😃. Thank you, David.
I to put a full size spare tire in my 2020 Rav 4. When it was time for new tires I saved one of the best old ones and bought a matching wheel off ebay. Mounted the tire on it and I now can drive as far and fast as I want with out worry of the temporary tire giving out. You have to do a little re aranging with the jack but it will fit.
quite a well done review of these features. YES I am considering a newer RAV4, I have a 2007 and love it, though its at 223000 miles so far. I WILL check out you site. I like how you present features and facts. Thank you so much
I absolutely LOVE my Rav4
Very insightful for SUV shoppers. Thanks!
It looks similar to Walter white car
I learned a lot and Ive sold dozens of ravs. Great video! Thank you!
It's surprising and disappointing to me that sales people are learning about the products that they are selling by going to RUclips, etc.
My sales guy was woefully uneducated about the vehicle that he sold me. The service manager has proved to be inadequately trained as well.
Thank you.
@@chris2790 what vehicle did you purchase?
@@deionmoore10 2019 AWD LE Rav4.
The sales guy didn't fully understand how the stop/start system worked, and there were several other things he had no answer for (about drive train differences between some of the trim levels) and the service manager didn't understand some of the stop/start settings either. He actually gave me bad info. The service manager also told me that manufacturers don't use clear coat anymore either!
My wife used to sell cars for a dodge dealer, and they made sure that their people were well trained on incoming models. I was really surprised at the lack of product knowledge when I bought my Rav4.
@@chris2790 That's terrible. The dealer should either get them educated or replace them.
JUST SAYING very sold vehicle. FYI, Toyota Safety was introduced on 2017 if that is what you are looking to have. Otherwise, 2016 is a good choice.
The best hidden feature is the fact that when you turn on cruise control and lane assist at the same time you have a self-driving car.
Right!
Lane assist will tell you to take hold of the steering wheel if you quit steering
LTA fights you constantly. After a couple tries I gave up and turned it off. It drives much better without it on!
I can’t wait for my RAV4 hybrid. I should get it next week
Do you know how to switch to the digital speedometer.
Great ride. I got mine last week
Thank you so much for the information! I’ve just ordered mine and hopefully I’ll get my hands on it soon~
whats with the "~" at the end?
In my case windows cannot be opened by smart key on default but if to press three times LOCK button and then hold this button, it will activate the remote start. Same way to stop it.
2019 RAV4 Hybrid Limited with Remote Start activated.
You have to ask your Toyota Service Department to program your keys to open the windows.
@@mannydrives Why can't anyone do it themselves Thanks
Mikhail Oparin Thank you for mentioning this remote start ability. My sales rep didn't even know much about the Rav4 and while viewing info online line I have not yet heard of this. Thank u much!
You can also set the Remote for remove start. You have to get the service text to unlock the feature but you push the unlock button three times and hold to start
You can actually go to settings and make the touch of the handle immediately unlock all doors. This is available on previous Rav4s as well.
mana1111 that is awesome!
Does the RAV 4 have climate control that starts the engine to charge the battery like the Prius does? I would love it for car camping!!! The cabin looks so much nicer than my 2011 Prius... saving my pennies...
Jim Scheltema not sure. I’ll have to find out.
Great video, I learned a lot about my new rav 4
michael thank you.
You forgot one cool feature that not too many people think or bother to see it..
I have 2019 XLE Toyota RAV4 once you put your keyless key in pocket and you walk towards your vehicle at night all interior light light up..

Alan H very cool. Thank you.
Manny Drives Thank you and I really love My New 2019 RAV4 XLE overall it’s built well and Can’t Complain it’s Toyota Quality..
Now I’m little picky in detailing etc..they could of do more detailing at free extra cost comparing competitors but I guess they want us to pay extra which is understanding..
Cheers
Alan
You are wonderful! Thanks for the info. I am looking at getting an XSE soon, but getting the color I want has been a pain.
Franklin McCullough that is a tough model to get. In Canada there is a 6-12 month waiting period.
I am about to buy a 2019 AWD Rav4 CVT. Cant wait!
Great video,
Do you need a special app on android for wireless charging?
Thanks,
Entune 3.0 has Toyota+Alexa voice activation that allows you to control starting/stopping engine and unlocking/locking doors from your home or phone (I'm using a Samsung S7 Edge). Also it allows you to control smart home items (lights and plugs etc) from car with voice. Lastly, can play Pandora or Amazon music with many Echo features that make it more entertaining for any length drives.
Erik Penabella thank you. This is a big feature I don’t think many people know.
Unfortunately, not available in Canada at this moment.
@@mannydrives I didn't realize that...
Erik Penabella it’s unfortunate. Alexa didn’t have Canadian French until The end of March. Hopefully we will have an update to use Toyota+Alexa soon.
So the Remote Start feature is not available in Canada?
@@Krakenburgen not at this time.
I wanna buy one right after I watched your video, Manny.

This is actually quite new info to me.

Still wish Toyota installed a sound proofing blanket under the hood. For the XSE Hybrid they did include the blanket in that model. SMH🤦♂️ . Thanks for an informative video.
Thank you for the comment. I think you are right and hopefully they will change it.
They weren’t that loud in the other trims..
You could just have one installed if it’s important to you, as long as your dealership has a body shop they should be able to help.
The hybrid has a different engine and cover, so the blanket is standard there.
Toyota must address this issue, they are spinning it at present and hoping it will go away. It will not.
Which trim and year does the physical key still can be used? I am not a fan of the touch ignition key. Thanks.
Amelia Andes LE trim only.
I heard it makes bacon and brews top notch beer too
DUDE! I thought #1 was auto-on-rear!... THANX~~!
I have a 2005 all wheel! Love it. But all of a sudden, my wheels locked up . The engine runs good, it tries to go in gear, but won't. Any answers! What to do
Is there a sensor that can detect birds and shoo them away before they poop on your vehicle?
So far the frequency used to do that also triggers uncontrollable eye twitch. Bizarre I know but they're working on it.
Manny Drives what's it called? I need to research
@aero I need that for bugs. Got bug juice all over my windshield.
We bought the white toyota rav4 hybrid, it was preview vehicle, now its ours, we pick it up in December
Thanks again. It works like a charm!
I just bought a 2020 Rav4 XLE premium. It didn't come with the Homelink rear view mirror. Will it support it if I purchase one?
I love my rav 4! XLE
Just got my RAV 4 premium loving it.
You need to add the safety features which are on all RAV4’s
I have a Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 video on my channel if you would like to watch.
got my UK 4wd hybrid two days back...very nice ride and surprisingly tight and quick..infotainment is a bit qwerky though i cannot get the map to point up ..it keeps resetting
My grandma needs a new car and I'm helping her find one because she knows next to nothing about cars... she has a RAV4 now and wants something different but told her the new RAV 4 seems too good to pass up haha
That is a cool car. Rav4 is the BEST
Nice review, can you please do same kinda review for Prado 2019 too. Thank you.
JO MaTT thank you but it’s not available here.
Love my Rav4 hybrid!!!!!!!!
Hey Manny, have you checked out the remote start function?
NickNack Vee yes it did. It’s awesome.
@@mannydrives I respectfully disagree. It turns the car off when you enter. Most remote starts just have you press the ignition button again, but the car does not have to be re-started. That so called "safety feature" goes too far. 👎🏿
A H I understand but I think having the remote starter standard on some trims with the ability to use an app and fob, is awesome.
@@AH-yu2pi Why is it such a big deal to get in and start it? Doesn't take but a second and all of the snow and ice will already be melted.
I have a 2017 Toyota RAV4 looking forward to the 2019 do I saw the cheap Plastics on the outside of it looks nothing at the dealer like you look some videos and photos they just had it more cheap Plastics to it
????????
Is there a button on the rear hatch to close it? Does it automatically open by pushing a button?
Karen Blueweiss with the exception of the LE model, yes.
The Hybrid version has sound damper under the hood as previous generation.
Thanks for the heads up on the Hybrid
So if there is a feature to program the keyfob to unlock doors and open all windows, can it also be programmed to lock the doors and close all windows? I asked my dealer and he had no clue. It would be a great asset if it did this.
h d good question. Only opens.
@@mannydrives Thanks. That's a shame they didn't think one step further as closing would be more helpful all round.
Sold I'm getting one
The adventure seems nice. I would prefer a FJ crusier but its not to easy to find low mileage ones at a nice price.
If that is so with the engine cover, why does the hybrid have insulation on hood ?
LolLife909 I wondered the same thing
I guess Toyota thought people with hybrids don't want to hear the motor while those with just a motor want to hear all that power coming out of the 4 cylinder :-P
Good insulation is present in the 2020 gas version
