Put a lot of miles on a Gen 1 Vmax, super quick & very fast once fully opened up. Factory they come at 120 BHP at the wheel, after the Dyno 155 BHP, with full acceleration to max gearing. Gen 1 was dangerous in the wrong hands. You had to plan your ride by the second, between the bikes power, weight, suspension & brakes, yet rewarding to ride. It was an old design barring the powerplant. Brakes were scary for a naked bike that could pass 150 MPH. Gen 1 Vmax was very much more engine than bike... A guy was always hammering about letting me give him a shot, always had a bad feeling about it. Eventually someone else gave him have a go, he wrapped that Vmax round a lamp post, didn't end well for the owner or the rider. Gen 1 you really need to respect the bike. Gen 2 is more forgiving, equally doesn't suffer fools... Gen 2 Vmax was a revelation, handled so much better and far safer, for the rider with a potential for a controllable 200 BHP at the wheel with an ECU mod & open pipes. Vmax's one crime is it's very limited tank range at just 4 gallons & thirsty consumption. If you have an opened up 1200 or 1700 be lucky to see 100 miles with sprinted riding... Was a sad day, but I needed a bike that could travel across EU at speed with not needing to stop stop at every second gas station.
Love everything about this bike except maybe the turning lights design could be cooler like halo lights in the intakes some people have done… Really hope they make them again soon and 2020 isn’t the last year for the beast VMAX
Those three together would blow everything off the road as long as they build without limitation and budget less innovation they are passionate about what they do
You gotta get one. I had a 2001 gsxr 1000. Super fun and fast. But the Vmax changed everything. Power. Sound. Teleportation. Can go fast and not just wheelie.
Ross, drop the extra weight and you will have more speed! I dropped down to 152 pounds with my 2005 to get as much speed as possible, I am 5-10. My 2005 is a brute.
I made it to 2:55 and had to shut it down! Skip skip, skippity, skip skip skip with an extra 2,000 skips! The VMAX is a badass bike but this video is a disgrace to it! Skip skip!
Only concerns with the Gen 2. 4 gallon tank, my r1 and r6 have a larger tank (4.5) gallons. 5 speed not 6 No cruise control. If they fixed those three concerns, the bike would be illegal
2018 last year for MAX! :( Fact is Yama did it wrong and never a big seller for several reasons, and now they cannot meet new EU emissions so they are dropping the low seller. I have always said they should have taken the Gen 1 MAX and brought that all up to date with all the improvements available in the industry, without doing the radical change they designed. I am very sad to see it end, but I knew the 2nd Gen. was never going to have big acceptance.
Right...all the scientists are in on the vast climate conspiracy since it first came out that co2 was building up in the atmospere. First mentioned in popular mechanics in 1912. Just a long term conspiracy to take take over the world with better emmissions. Just when your car gets 40mpg....boom! We evil liberals will attack and take over. God your dumb. Why would there be an evil climate conspiracy the lasts over a hundred years? Stop being so gullible. The only people who claim its not real are republicans, who are besties with the oil industry. And yet history shows the first and second generations weren't even the fastest. And they are like a Harley, heavy and under powered. Give us a 3rd generation with 350+ hp and weight under 500lbs.
i think the VMax 1700 (11 yrs in production) can be considered a failure compared to its wildly popular predecessor the VMax 1200 (22 yrs in production) and imo this is chiefly due to the bizarre styling which seemed an ugly caricature, almost parody, of the original's brutal but clean lines. the original was a muscular but stately design. you'd be just as home riding it with a suit and tie as a leather jacket. the new design looks like something out of a bad manga cartoon. the front half is not too bad save for the ugly headlight, but the rear half looks like it was made by that kid in your elementary class who could not draw to save his life. i was an owner of two 1200's and when i heard the 1700 was coming out i was THRILLED and could not wait to buy one when able. but then the design was reveled and... i nearly threw up. i was physically ill. i could not believe how far the designers had missed the mark. to this day i still don't want one, but would consider buying a 1200 again. it was such a handsome design from almost every angle. the 1700 imo is ugly from almost every angle. i know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but the comparatively short production run seems to agree with me

My 98 Vmax shook like crazy around 140 miles per hour. It also needed a 6th gear. Do they have 6 gears now ?
Get a Steering Stabilizer, Problem Solved.
They don't have 6 gears. Just 5
I want one

Lemme guess, the liberal tree-hugger EU too worried about the fictional global-warming?
Thry told me the same thing in 98 when I had mine. They said that they discontinuing the vmax after 98. I think it was just a marketing thing.
