@Otherrandomguy42 that's a lot of money run one for 6 or 7 seasons until it starts to give trouble and then trade for a new one we do the same thing with our balers
Farming is 24hrs a day, espcially where livetock are involved. Cattle can give birth anytime not 9-5 and the same with sheep. My brother-in-law has 2,000 sheep and they do a 24hr work rotation of lambing staff, as the joint owner, he gets the short straw and does the nightshift. On the dairy farm they own, the run a small herd of 180 Fresian cows, they calve all year around and some in the middle of the night. Factor in the suckler cow herd for beef livestock and it takes a lot of staff and time management.
Great video Andy.....as a few have said, its a good job that the tie rod broke in the field. I had one break on the road a few years ago and lucky enough i was on a twisty bendy road and i was going fairly slow but it soon gets your attention when it happens.
A neighbor who was fairly larger operations size wise who would only use a green piece of equipment some year's ago. Similar situation happened to him. But the new guys wouldn't do ANYTHING for him in a situation like yours. The next mourning when his guys showed up to work had them all but the broken down 1 to follow him to town. He preceeded to the Case/IH dealer in town and traded everything in the fleet for red. He outright owned everything he had witch made it all his deal. Even the broken down 1 got traded as is. Fast forward 15 years, even his vehicles and trucks are painted red. He is about to retire but his boys that are taking over operate just like dad, we need it now! Didnt ask how much, just when can we get it. Not saying he was right but it was his money. His family has always had fu money lol . Great vid bud, chop till it drops 😂 And I should have mentioned, that family wou do and help any other farmer that needed it. No questions asked.
At least they got you taken care of before they had to shut down for a few days. Never a dull moment when you use your equipment. I did that once. Tied the tie Rod end with wire and drove it 12 miles to the shop it was a t800.

Good luck with new dealer. Seems like it gets worse every time a new owner takes over. Less parts inventory. Less people giving a shit if you stay in business or not. Keep on keepen on.
Hey Andy, it’s great watching the chopper! Have you thought about adding a 2 gallon plastic sprayer with water in it on the fuel trailer. It might be good for watering down the dry stuff. Sorry you had a tough day! Thanks much for sharing your video.
Hey Andy I'm not here to be negative but you should invest in a Red Max 7500 blower they are awesome you won't regret it I used them for years I'm retired now I love your videos I have a lot of respect for you and your family thank you
Enjoyed your video Andy. Had the same thing car backed out in front of me not looking. Well she was looking at the monitor lol, i barely drove around but did cause im not like that either. Have a good day.
Andy, just something that many of us farmers tend to forget, go to your local fire dept., ask them if they have any old fire hose they're getting rid of. Use that to wrap around your hydraulic lines. That fire hose is thick and extremely difficult to cut or rub through. It's just a suggestion only. This might be a silly question but, can't you add an electric spray system to the top shield for sharpening? Would only need 2 maybe 3 nozzles at best, can keep the lid closed while it sharpens. At least in my theory it would work, just suggesting again. :D This is farming, some days are good, some days... not so much. Kinda sucks your dealership got bought out but, been there and done that. Mine got bought out several years ago, atmosphere is different than it used to be. Let's hope they'll keep the same people in place for ya, it's miserable when they don't. Cheers :)
It's June 21st... if I didn't already know that you have successfully completed the 1st cut - I would have been plumb discouraged at your abysmal start on Day1 & Day 2. All that fixin' & friggin' to get ready - and it falls in a heap. I assume the rest of the acreage went better , but nontheless if there's more breakage, a swarm of Hourigans swinging wrenches and torches will converge and keep on rolling. Admire your calm demeanor. Stay safe.
Happy Dairy Month🐄. If you come to Wisconsin, you can get a free carton of chocolate milk if you stop by the bank or vets office. The vet even carries some on the truck.
Probably already got the deal worked out on the new head but my 2¢ is that possession is 9/10 of the law. I reminded a salesman of that on a JLG high reach demo once. I took him a check for a good bit lower than they wanted to go and had him run it by his manager. They accepted it. My boss wasn't easily impressed but that day everybody ended up happy.
Hope SNPartners were able to find/sell the 649 Premium to you. Although it's now almost 3 wks later (31 May) I noticed McGregors in Auburn had one out front on a chopper. Hey, Andy, perhaps they'll let you have the head for a little while and then expect you to buy the chopper to go with it.😅😅😅😅 Should teach the girls again to drive the chopper❤❤❤❤
It seems to me that a sure sale for them right now is worth more than a maybe sale down the road. In the mean time they could order another one in to go with the machine .
What a busy time and video. I doesn't make sense to not sell you the new chopper head. They cannot sell it as new since its been used. They should be able to get a new one from somewhere I would have thought. Add in the fact you are a regular customer too. If that was me, I would take a walk into town and have a look at a Claas Jaguar 990. The latter isn't cheap and it's the top of the range but JD are nothing in farming that is up for a hard days work is cheap!
Andy, if are superstitious about things happening in 3s, so you have had your 3 break downs so you are good for the rest of first cutting. Hope the new owners of the JD dealership give you as good service as Caz. Hope the new owners are not investment bankers.
Hey Andy do you know if Cass Equ sold voluntarily or if Deere forced the sale. I know Deere forced out Godfrey Bros in Jonesville Michigan a few years ago. Greenmark got them. Deere wants fewer owners and for the ones left to have more stores. I sure hope Cass wasn't forced out. It sucks how Deere does this to perfectly good dealers. Godfrey's was one of the last single stores in Michigan. Good people, knew the owner for many years Jack Godfrey.
