Good morning Euan! What a great update! The scenery around the station throat looks amazing, and I can understand you needing a break from the scenic work! Adding the curved points to allow trains leaving the bay platform to crossover to the outer line is a great idea, and will undoubtedly help with operations! It'll be interesting to see how you get on with the Twistlock point motors for them! Enjoyed the running session, which really showed off all of your hard work! All the best, Ian.
Hi Ian and many thanks. I've filmed a video showing the process of installing a Twistlock motor to a point on an offcut of baseboard. Impressed with the installation so hopefully the same happens when I install for real under the new points crossing. Cheers Euan
Hi Nat - many thanks for commenting - appreciated 😊. I'm currently on the way to the model shop to pick up "supplies" for the bit of track work mentioned in the video. Glad you enjoyed the running session 😊. Cheers Euan

I'm always impressed with your track work, ballasting and scenery, its turning into a masterpiece Euan. Nice runnin shots at end. All the best, I look forward to seeing your next track work stages. Brian @ The Angels
Hi Brian - hope your keeping well. Many thanks for your kind comments. As I said in the video I need a break from 7 months if scenic work - so looking forward to some track work in the run up to Christmas 😊 cheers Euan
Hi Euan, the layout is looking great and the detailing work is really bringing it all to life!! You cant beat the scenic work 🤣😂 I guess you love that track laying more, get the track gang out and the ballast boys!! Enjoy I looking forward to seeing the new track work in action! Cheers Gary
@@SC68 Hi Gary - hope you're well. Many thanks for your kind d comments. I'm actually just in from completing the new cross-over. These Twistlock point motors are the business !! First time I've used them but so much better to fit than the PL10'S. How are getting on with the OO ? Cheers Euan
@@thegrowler-blackwoodngauge Hi Euan, Not too bad thanks, Yes the Twistlock PM's they do look a good piece of kit! The 00 is progressing with the planning I want to get this layout right first time and learn by my mistakes but had so much other stuff on since my last video! Howver I have purchased 11 x locos 🤑and quite a bit of rolling stock since June, there was so many locos I just happen to like 😉. Hopefully will get a video done soon showing progress with the plans but been saying that for 2 months now 🙄but I intend to very soon! Cheers Gary
Everything looks great Euan. Do you scratchbuild your little bits and pieces of lineside equipment or do you buy/3d print them? I have medium size 00 gauge points and I continually have to fiddle with them, as you say many wagons and some coaches tend to derail going through the points. Regrettably I did not install point motors when I first built the layout and must really pay attention to make sure I have them in the correct position. Cheers
Hi Charlie - all the bits are pieces are either bought or just made from offcuts. I'm not clever enough to 3D print. I'll leave that to the experts. Many thanks for commenting - much appreciated 😊 cheers Euan
@ I once was a Draughtsman/modeller so I know how to do the odd bit of modelling. I have done relay boxes, pressure tank via my 3d printer and scratch built the masts for my (one) catenary. Built my tenement building from grey card, made trees of various types including Boomer’s. Built a spaceship and have just started another. Scratch built the bridge you see using matte board. Having said all that I don’t know much about electrical stuff 🤣
Fantastic Euan, love the masts. The whole scene comes together beautifully and the changes just make logical sense. Could you please show the process of fitting twistlocks, be good to see any changes for N gauge. Thx Euan, always a pleasure to watch.
Hi John - many thanks for your very kind comments - always appreciate you taking time to comment. Yes I'll try and show the twistlocks. I had to contact PECO as all the videos I watched showed them being fitted to straight points. They replied to say they can be used on curved code 55 points - time will tell. The masts I'm pleased with as they look right in my eyes - easy enough to build but time consuming as you have to wait for the glue to go off. Cheers Euan
The scenic work around the station throat really does look good. I can understand that after seven months of scenic work you need a change of scene. The permanent way gang's tools must be a bit rusty after all that time. Enjoyed the running session. all the hard work has given you some lovely camera angles. Stephen
Hi Stephen - I'm definitely all "scenic'd out" !! Very true the track gang's tools are going rusty. I was at Harborne Hobbies yesterday getting some Twistlock point motors. Currently trying to make a "How To" showing how these work on N gauge. All the videos out there are for straight OO points. Not my usual modus operandi - take my hat off to you and the way you film all these little bits and then put them seamlessly together. I'm no Cecil B Demise 🤣. Glad you enjoyed the running shots. Cheers Euan

Nice bit of BR blue/ Grey just to add a bit of spice to the mix. Already had a telling off from the NT for playing trains during the working day😂 Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers Euan
Most excellent, Euan. I see that you're transitioning from landscaping to Civil Engineering for a while, nice. I notice too that you have some of the nice catenary masts from Westhill; I purchased a few at GETS but I haven't decided on registration arms yet, I want to look at the compatible wires when I'm back in Germany in a couple of weeks and see how thick they are (if they are as I fear, then I'll skip the wires completely) - I'm due to start on track painting and ballasting next weekend so I need to think of trunking and mast locations as I go, wish me luck.
Hi Donald - hope your well. The masts aren't from Westhill - they are N Brass/Dapol and my own scratch built efforts. I did buy some of the new Westhill Wagon Works but they look massively overstate when set against the N Brass/Dapol ones. I did speak to a gentleman at the Westhill stand at GETS and was told these are based on the more modern version of the overheads and are in scale. Think I'll need to disagree with them on that one ! That said the registration arms are more "in scale" when set against the N Brass "A frames". They are apparently going to release an earlier version of catenary masts - so perhaps they will be able to used. Looking forward to seeing your own progress. 😊 cheers Euan
@@thegrowler-blackwoodngauge That's really very interesting Euan, and you're right regarding the appearance of scale of the masts from Westhill - when I got home and set them beside a Class 90 I just though 'oh' because the Dapol ones looked not bad. I'll post as soon as I have something worth showing (it may be some time, LOL). What did you use for your orange pipe trunking below tracks - I was looking at orange DCC wire.👍
Hi Euan. Great update as usual. Catenary looking great. Sorting the points will really help. Makes sense as you cant see the viaduct any more. Can you use it anywhere else? So much inspiration here. Well done. Simon.😀😀

Hi Euan, sorry bit late to the party this week had a couple of problems with RUclips on my Ipad not showing my subscriptions! Well blocked drains by the look of it at Blackwood that’s not good must have been a dodgy curry night down at the local Tandoori the track gang had😳. Still an interesting scene to model 🤔🤣. Joking aside Euan, it really does look so good all that scenic work you’ve done, it really has inspired me to get on with my own layout which I have finally made a start on. Looking forward now to more track work and to see those twist lock point motors, really good running session too, cheers Euan, John
Good morning John 😊. RUclips can be a pain sometimes. I've been unsubscribed myself - to channels that I watch fairly regularly😢. Yes - the smell coming out of that drain 😅 had to fumigate the train room😂. Glad I've given you some inspiration to get back in the cabin. I'm looking forward to seeing the layout progress. Just go at your own pace and you'll probably get back into the groove again ! The Twistlock point motors - wow - I've fitted the first one - so easy when compared to the PL10's and accessory switches. I've done a "how to" video using an old point and offcut of plywood. Just need to film the last bit showing them in position on the new crossover. Hopefully the video can go out in the next couple of weeks. Cheers Euan
Your scenic work is spot on, but I can understand that you need a bit of a break from it. Taking the viaduct out makes perfect sense as it doesn't really serve a purpose now. The point crossover in the new position will look a lot better and will flow and run better especially with your nice flowing curves. I noticed you didn't mention anything about wiring, best keep quiet otherwise "The National Treasure" will be sending you all his wire scraps again for Christmas! 🤣🤣. All the best Tony.
Hi Tony - hope you're keeping well. Yes 7 months scenic work has taken its toll ! I had thought of taking the viaduct out last year but decided it could wait until later. I've already had the NT message me about playing trains while I was working as the video went live at lunchtime😅 I'll wind him up when it comes to the point wiring 😂. Cheers Euan
Great update, the station area is looking fantastic, as is the catenary! Out of interest, what do you do about track cleaning? I've damaged more masts trying to clean tracks...
Hiya - many thanks for your kind comments. The masts all lift out - the N Brass portals have a brass rod attached to the bottom of each stanchion. I use a woodland scenics track rubber which is on a long handled stick. So my hands don't need to get near to the masts. The Dapol masts are set back from the track a little more than they would be in real life. This allows me to push the track rubber past without damaging them. That's not say I've not damaged the odd one now and again. Cheers Euan
A really well-built layout with excellent landscaping etc. I have a genuine question and a little gripe, however. I find the loopy graphics section between film clips so irritating, why not just cut from one scene to the next? The question is about general modelling techniques; why is it that (most) modellers do not close the gap between coaches on their layouts? Surely there must be some way of making this much more realistic by closing the gap somewhow, after all, real trains have an interconnecting section? Regards, Eric.
Hi Eric - many thanks for commenting- very much appreciated. I'll take your comments on board re the graphics between the running clips. As for the corridor connection between coaches. I do belive there are simple kits on the market which entail fixing a paper representation of the corridor connection to coach gangways. Cheers Euan
