Keep in mind that most of these cities are part of a much larger metropolitan area. So, there are plenty of great suburbs you can choose to live in that don't have the problems that plague the city proper.

Chicago is great. One of our only true cities and offers the most for the cost. 2K rent is nothing compared to NY or LA.

Blame those who run our banks for the prices (13x inflation since the 50s with little real wage growth)
Blame the gl0balists for the traffic with massive population increases

Chicago is my home and I love it. I live in a high rise downtown and wouldn't change a thing. However, you do have to be financially secure to live comfortably here. I live in Indianapolis part of the year for business, and I do NOT recommend that city.

Chicago has some great suburban towns. I’m 67 and have lived in the burbs my whole life

Glad to hear other people say they never fancied Hawaii. I have nothing against Hawaii, our fiftieth state. I admit, I do prefer a colder clime, but as much as I am not a fan of California or Florida, you can find beaches, palm trees and heat in both. I'm in the midwest, Missouri. I know no one would ever visit here for any reason, but I do believe if I won a free trip to Hawaii, I would donate it to charity. Alaska is a different story...

Chicago is not as bad as described (except in parts of the south and west side where you really don't want to venture).

There's so much more to Hawaii than the beaches. There's no reason not to visit because as a visitor you can and will enjoy yourself. Do your research and go see what you'll enjoy or get a good local guide and describe what you like.
Credit to the narrator to know that climate change and sea level rise is true but he's ignorant of the ecology and geology of Florida evidently because there is damage which is already occurring to the land and wildlife which has repercussions for humans.

The travel alone from England to Hawaii turns off most people. Both in terms of cost, and the time it will take. You're going to be spending 2 full days on a plane round trip on average.

I recently Returned to Portland after 22 years away. It is absolutely horrible here.
Politicians and activists like to pretend that the city's problems nebulous, and with "no one solution."
The simple answer is that THEY are the problem. They pick and choose which laws they want to enforce, based solely upon political expediency.
The first month I was here, the homeless down the street were evicted from their camp by the police. They simply moved all their stuff to the other side of the street, leaving all the rubbish for the city to clean up. Lather, rinse, repeat...
Not to mention, the city started collecting trash every other week, instead of once a week. Everyone has garbage piled up in their driveways, and I have never seen so many rats.

All of my Military friends that were stationed in Hawaii were super excited to go at first. After the first 6 - 12 months they couldn’t wait to go somewhere else. Yeah it’s beautiful, but on military pay, that’s really all you have.

I have been or lived in all of them. I do not anymore for those reasons mentioned. When I live in Phoenix my electric bill was 100 more than my rent. I have a friend in Manchester who is going to Medical School and paying 550 a month for a bedroom.

Not a fan of Portland but the potholes are nothing compared to east coast cities. If your on the West side in the suburbs it's really nice but expensive. The homeless problem is not on the west side ether.

Well, Chicago is my favorite city too, Daz. Of course, I was born there and raised in Skokie, IL just over the line from Chicago. I still think it is great to live in the Greater Chicagoland. However, I would want to move to Naperville in the SW or Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire or Vernon Hills in the NW. They are safe places to live. One can easily train into Chicago on good, safe train lines via Metra to engage in Chicago culture. Homelessness is real in almost all big cities and other locals. It is not such a difficult problem to fix. It is sad that governments following the lead of citizens choose not to invest in bettering these communities but instead ostracize the homeless and essentially condemn them to a kind of purgatory. It is cruel punishment for the sin of not being successful as capitalism demands., Peace

A city has some tools to turn around aging infrastructure & QOL issues like crime, housing, etc. But natural events & climate-related changes, as well as uninsurability, are tougher (looking at you, FL).
IMO, keep an eye on TX - it’s also running out of water. Sugar farming all but gone & citrus may be next. State & local govt are starting to address looming crisis, but IDK if enough can be done in time to avoid some tough times. Ofc, weather could change drastically, replenishing aquifers & rivers 🤷

This entire video could be summed up by saying America is becoming too expensive to justify. Cost of living outpaces inflation by a wide margin, and wages don't keep up. God forbid you want health insurance on top of it all.
