If the pizzicatos aren't clean, huge chance it's Eddy. 5. If the playing is loud but you get suprised it can get louder, it's Brett. 6. If you think it sounds so well-practiced (or it has some musicality in it or it's being played by a perfectionist), it's Eddy 7. When you hear confidence in the sound, huge chance it's Brett 8. If the piece sounds dextrous, it's Brett. 9. If the bowing sounds light but loud, Brett 10. If you hear a sniff, Eddy. 11. If the vibrato is juicy, Brett
@@nicolasmartinez1317 i have been fascinated by how these two can play differently but still make beautiful music together when they duet I have started to notice that brett's still quite adjusting to his new violin. Eddy has always been experimental with his playing and Brett used to be confident in his own Scrollavezza but when he got his Widenhouse, I noticed him starting to explore and it's got a bit of a hesitance these days. But when he plays a piece he has practiced well, his playing actually shifted to his loud and quite energetic Scrollavezza playing to a more matured, graceful, yet still resonant Widenhouse playing which actually confuses me lately bc I've always associated graceful playing with Eddy. One thing that never did quite change is Brett rushing when he's either (1) excited or (2) nervous. I have a feeling he bases his counting with his heart rhythm which isnt so reliable when it changes depending on the situation.

You know what’s nice? It’s the passive aural education we get from this channel. As a non-musician, I would never have been able to hear the differences between a sight-read piece and a performance piece before.

Brett has a tendency to rush and eddy has a tendency to drag, even if both only so slightly. Eddy tends to ricochet bow more often and he has a longer phrasing. You both are so amazing. Also eddy has a more post-romantic vibrato and Brett's is more romantic era.
The more I watch, the more I feel like this is another way of walking down the memory lane to look back at what you've done before, to know more about yourselves and each other, and to discover what's changed and what's not. LOVE IT!! Makes me look forward to more of your serious playing (whispering: and probably album) in the future!!
I'm commenting under my own comment to prevent people say that I'm spamming. I actually recognized quite a few of the playing, and even remembered which videos they are from because I watched (or listened to) those videos so many times lol I listened to Twoset's video while doing data analysis lol
Ok, I gotta say this, Eddy, you are too precious to me (I'm not saying that Brett's not but this is what I think about Eddy from this video, and from, well, all the videos). The way he sincerely appreciates Brett's playing all the time really hit the soft part of my heart. The thing he always says while "commenting" on Brett's playing is, "that's too good", "I can't play like that", "you did that technique well, I can't do it as good"... He is humble, sincere, pay attention to details, always passion towards music... GOD I LOVE THIS MAN!!! 😭😭😭

I may be wrong but Brett’s early style has a bit of “aggressiveness” taste in it while now he is more gentle, and Eddy the opposite. So he is not bragging about his improvement but rather trying to figure out the playing by analyzing style.
Love how Brett can tell how Eddy plays the violin when sight reading. I know they've been friends for super long, but I think it's so cute how well they've memorized one another's lil details.
Fun fact: if they had been purely guessing (50% chance), then the probability of having 14 or more scores out of 19 is 3.2%. Under the conventional 5% significance level, I would assert that both Brett and Eddy have the ability to tell the difference.
I want to thank Brett and Eddy, thanks to you guys I'm going to my first ever classical concert next week! I'll get to hear La Mer in real life for the first time, I'm soooo excited! I feel like Eddy has more raw passion, like he would give his playing everything he has. Brett has a more delicate passion, having a more beautiful tone but some might say he is less expressive, but no it's just wrapped inside each note. But what do I know? I gave up on seriously answering after the first few.
I think this video made me realize how much they know about each other and how the other plays. With pointing out phrasing, vibrato, even “that’s your old violin.” These guys are crazy talented and I appreciate it more every video

I don't watch twoset as much anymore, but sometimes I can't help but click their vids just cause they look so adorable in their thumbnails. And then the content ends up to be so entertaining.

Coming back after listening to a bunch of your video from serious playing to sight reading and having fun, I have learnt that: 1. (obviously) Your playing while sightreading is much more rough and unrefined and definitely not telling of your skill level, but it is hella interesting and fun cause seeing you guys trying to challenge yourself and like in this video, it is like a prank to throw you off from guessing about who was actually playing which. 2. The improvement is immeasurable. Again, coming back from your old vids and hearing your playing compare to recent videos now, which was featured in this vid, for a non-trained musician, one can tell you two improved a lot, especially Eddy since his tone and musicality on his old violin is more 'pressed' and now, his playing sound more expressive and 'freer' without hard pressing and that straining feeling. With Brett, his playing is more refined than before. The notes are more crisp, cleaner and rounder. 3. The different in phrasing from the both of you. The improvement make the different in characteristics in your playing more prominent. I really love the part when the editor put the comparison between how you two would phrase the same piece, like Monti -Csardas, the different in how your vibrato sound like. Really like this 'analysis' into your own playing. 4. Once again, practice is emphasis and is very important. It's really motivated me and warm my heart when Eddy said like 'how I played it back then' because these two tend to put themselves down because they know where they are, how they play, but also it's the affirmative that you improved after consistent years of practice that is very relatable to us as well. Brett shocked at himself because he didn't recognize his old playing (the monti ones) also shows me he changed and improved that's why he thought it wasn't him. Lastly, as viewers since we are more familiar with their comedic, non-serious playing while sight reading that honestly we could recognize a lot of these clips but knowing you two didn't not because you don't know but you are more trained to hear your playing/practicing hard now, is encouraging in its own way. Keep it up guys, can't wait to see your future venture and Eddy 5mil drop since Brett worked so hard and played so beautifully already! Bonus: Love the part when both of you are unsure if you have played it before or who play it, you two just move your hand just to confirm how you would play it. The fact both know each other quite clear and just like, 'I know you played that piece and I dont' so it's just meant the other person. Also the last one is really wholesome, they immediately just guess the other because the sounds are really good but also they know themselves enough to know it is definitely not them XD.
I got 13!!! I think, to my uneducated (musically) ear, Eddy has very speciffic phrasing- very different from Brett's. Loved this episode. Perfect for fans who have been watching for years now.

For non-musicians : try to imagine your friends or family read out your poems/fictions/tweets from years ago and you can’t even remember what happened then. It’s part of you and your creation for sure and there must be some interesting pieces of it but you would still feel awkward or fear for some reason. Thanks for sharing this with us! It’s so touching and inspiring as well!
I got all one. Listen to your vibrato's. Eddy, you do not start the vibrato on every note--short notes don't matter, but long notes start out as a pure tone and then the vibrato kicks in. Brett's tone is enriched by the vibrato right from the start of each note.
I feel like Brett's playing is somewhat softer and Eddy has a bit more of an aggressive style, but not by much. Eddy seems more confident when sight-reading and hits cleaner high notes on the spot, while Brett sounds like he can recover really well from mistakes and his sound is somewhat rounder. This is coming from someone who doesn't play violin, so I may just be talking out my ass, but guessing with this in mind really helped me get most of them right :D

Really? I thought the otherwise.. brett's play sounds more aggressive and his technique is confident. But eddy has better tone and phrasing. I recon brett's often have more flat note not always, not much but yeah.. it's quite obvious (lmao my violin teacher makes me practice scales everyday for hours with tuner before I jump to piece, my fingers often give up but my ears have sharpened)

I love how they actually knew their instrument and their own style of music and also each other so well, that they actually are not purely guessing who played which piece, but had a proper reason that led to that hypothesis. It's just amazing.
It's so amazing how despite twoset always playing together, I had difficulty telling but when I could, I realized that each of their playing had their own character!! Brett seems to be slightly more refined and his playing is really smooth and gentle while Eddy's is a bit more rough, and I love the contrast!! Personally I actually really like Brett's playing 😍 But thanks Twoset for doing this!! You both should do vids like this more often!!
I know you guys sometimes cringe at your own playing in this video (I'm a violinist and I cringe at my own recordings as well...), but you two both have a beautiful tone and truly are great violinists!
Honestly, the take away point from me is both Brett and Eddy sound phenomenal. On the surface, they're twoset, making these hilarious videos, but underneath they're two extremely talented and skilled violinists.
I could tell it was him because he always does a big gliss up to that top G in the first couple of bars! (Edit - I put E at first but the one up to the G is way bigger 😄)
7:43 I chose Brett bc when Brett plays, he has a much deeper sound on the G string than Eddy, puts more pressure and sometimes you can hear the articulation from Brett. Eddy on the other hand plays more of a lighter and faster feeling.
You are both too good to be putting yourselves down like that. I struggle daily on the violin, and I wish I could play as well as either of you. Unfortunately, you have only learned to hear the problems in your playing, and are missing the big picture. You are both fine violinists and should be proud!

I got the first 14 in a row correct lol… Brett’s timbre always feels… lighter/higher and kind of “flowy” and Eddy’s feels a bit… sharper and lower/deeper and has more distinct edges between phrases and notes. Brett always seems like he comes in softer, and the lines feel smoother? I only play piano and not even that well, and I’ve never done any aural training… I guess I’ve just watched too many TwoSet videos lol. My intuition based on how it sounds seems to be enough to tell them apart very consistently.
This reminds me sb once commented they would love to see a video where brett and eddy practice the same piece seperately and then compare how they interpret it differently! I think that would actually be very interesting

I knew the last one was Ray because Hilary Hahn likes to slur the quarter notes; Ray slurs the first two (as written), and then plays more separate bow strokes. He plays more of what is written. Ray's bowing: slur two, separate, separate, slur two, slur three, etc. Hilary's: slurs two, slurs four, slurs three, separate, separate, slur two, etc. Also, I have lately been obsessed with this concerto, and my all-time favorite (surprisingly! I say sarcastically) is Hilary Hahn, and I always noticed how she plays differently than what's written, and have really admired and appreciated how she likes to phrase it, how she somehow keeps that sorta . . . I don't know how to describe it. That tone? It's just as thick, as smooth as other players, yet, different, because it's her own style, and it's just so different, yet so similar, and hmmff, it's so good. I guessed correctly on all but the ones where they weren't playing their own violins 😆 Eddy to me has very distinct vibratos, and he has a generally more vibrant and dramatic way of playing. Brett's playing has a bit more weight to it, generally more mellow, but this lends him a surprisingly powerful sound when he really goes for it, like in clip #9.

Got 16/20 It's becoming a habit to see some "pictures/paintings" when I heard they're playing. It's like I see 'bold', 'strong', yet 'clear' paintings on Brett's and 'clean' and 'light/bright' paintings on Eddy's~ Loooove them so much~
I am better at this than Brett and Eddy. Hahaha. The saying goes, 旁观者清, meaning, the bystander is clearer. Another nice video idea from Twoset! Basically, Brett tends to play the pieces that are slower and more melodious while Eddy tends to play the pieces that require many strokes in quick succession.
Maybe because I'm a musician, but you two have very distinctive playing styles. I think many of your fans can recognize the differences because we listen to you both play so often! :D
I'm not a musician, but I love TwoSet. This was very interesting and fun to watch. It made me think of how we each don't always recognize who we are, what we do, and how we come across to others. Many times we see a character trait (usually a negative trait) in someone else, but we are totally unaware that we exhibit that exact trait.
I actually think they are lowkey very fine musicians. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the quality and intensity of many of these passages. Very rich and satisfying to listen to. Now, I’m not a huge fan of Bach but Eddy’s Sonata No. 1 Adagio just hit different, man; it warped me to some deserted 16th century field, wind blowing, everything grey and desolate. The all too few bars played said so much. They articulated someone who was gutted and spent - it painted a troubling picture and yet I was hooked and wanted to hear more. Shame it ended. Re: Brett, well the Weinswski Polonaise was just sweet, some of the shifts were golden, tone was nuanced, and some of the complex string crossings where oh so finessed. In one word: Delicious!
@@londongael414 Glad I could help. My dream is to judge one of these competitions. I’m not a violinist, but you could say that I’m pretty much the Hilary Hahn among listeners. I actually do listenings where musicians play for me. I don’t teach technique but I point out where there interpretations fall flat. For years many experienced musicians just couldn’t figure out why Lang Lang was wildly popular with audiences. It’s because he knows how to make music. Playing music and making music are two different things. When you learn to bend melodies to your will, you’re halfway there. It’s sort of like being an interpreter or translator. If you stick slavishly to the text - no matter how correct it is - you end up with a dry boring rendition. When you betray the text to make it your own you sometimes end up with the very result the composer intended. The point is to convey ideas not notes. You need the notes, but they are only part of the equation.

Brett made a comment saying: “Too much technique.” So, Eddy, in a passive-aggressive way, knowing that the connoisseur can’t play that passage goes: “Can you show me how it’s done then?” Low blow, Eddy. It was funny, but it reveals a very interesting dynamic. Don’t expect listeners to have no opinion, at all, of a performance, or to always be congratulatory. You want the most demanding audience you can get! They make you better, and when the victories come, they will be all the sweeter. As far as opinions go, you take what you can use, leave the rest. But musicians should always play for non-musicians every now and then. You will always get comments that you didn’t expect ... for better or worse.

This was so fun! I stumbled on your videos a couple of weeks ago! I was playing along and listening for bow pressure, I feel like overall Brett uses more pressure with his bow that leads to a more assertive style and I feel like Eddy really plays into melodic highs and lows/phrasing and tends to really contrast sfp as much as possible. Love both of your styles!
I have come to develop an ear for who plays by their style of playing. Eddy tends to sound more gritty and aggressive. Brett tends to rush sometimes but has a more light and airy sound. Both have their own styles but sound awesome! I love listening to yall play. Thank you for keeping classical music alive and the humor going. ❤

I'm always thinking about quitting or going on a long hiatus on violin but after watching some of your videos I become super motivated and wanna practise 40 hours a day :D Also you always make me laugh hardly especially these days that I'm unmotivated because my violin is small for me and doesn't have a good quality. But that doesn't matter after watching you, I'll try my best!
you should watch the video where Eddy compares his new and old violin. apparently his old violin was so bad it would make you practice wrong and he had it forever. so don't feel too bad lol, and make sure to buy a proper violin whenever you do buy a new one. get your teacher or someone experienced to test it before buying :p

I'm a pianist and Eddy's style is pretty close to how I persieve the music, he's more passionate in culminations (or even aggressive like smone said in the comments 😆) and tender to the melodies, his style is introverted and philosophical, and also romantic. But I still prefer Brett because you can spot newer things in his playing and kinda do your playing more "objective" since Brett plays spectacular and kinda more logical or like "extraverted", and closer to that "famous musician" sound. And I find their styles correlate with their life personalities
I’m not a violinist so I definitely struggle when pointing out the technical parts when listening. But for some reason, I can tell if it’s Eddy playing regardless of the violin he’s using because it sounds so sweet. Is it just me who has that impression of his playing?

This was so fun! I enjoyed playing along as well as seeing your reactions to yourselves playing. It's interesting to me that while I only have a feeling of "Oh, that sounds like Brett," or "That matches my image of Eddy playing," they could actually analyze and explain _why_ it sounded like one or the other. Two interesting things that happened with my guessing: Dance of the Knights sounded like Eddy at the beginning, but suddenly sounded like Brett at the end to me On one round I had no clue, but I somehow knew they both thought it was Eddy 😂
Brett not knowing it was him is like me two days ago when I heard a recording of me during rehearsals. I was so surprised it sounded that good that I had to really ask if it was me. You both are so amazing, I know you two poke fun of yourselves but you guys sound INCREDIBLE. Please don’t ever say any different. The 40hrs really pay off 💪🏽

Brett has a tendency to rush and eddy has a tendency to drag, even if both only so slightly. Eddy tends to ricochet bow more often and he has a longer phrasing. You both are so amazing. Also eddy has a more post-romantic vibrato and Brett's is more romantic era.
The more I watch, the more I feel like this is another way of walking down the memory lane to look back at what you've done before, to know more about yourselves and each other, and to discover what's changed and what's not. LOVE IT!! Makes me look forward to more of your serious playing (whispering: and probably album) in the future!!

Ok, I gotta say this, Eddy, you are too precious to me (I'm not saying that Brett's not but this is what I think about Eddy from this video, and from, well, all the videos). The way he sincerely appreciates Brett's playing all the time really hit the soft part of my heart. The thing he always says while "commenting" on Brett's playing is, "that's too good", "I can't play like that", "you did that technique well, I can't do it as good"... I may be wrong but Brett’s early style has a bit of “aggressiveness” taste in it while now he is more gentle, and Eddy the opposite. So he is not bragging about his improvement but rather trying to figure out the playing by analyzing style.

Agreed. I think Eddy is in general more technically proficient, but in terms of pure sound production Brett is miles ahead.
I feel like Eddy has more raw passion, like he would give his playing everything he has. Brett has a more delicate passion, having a more beautiful tone but some might say he is less expressive, but no it's just wrapped inside each note.
But what do I know? I gave up on seriously answering after the first few.

Playing along, i got their sight reading pieces mostly wrong. It makes me wonder if i actually do know how they play or if i just recognize the audio and mentally match it to a video 😂

Coming back after listening to a bunch of your video from serious playing to sight reading and having fun, I have learnt that:
1. (obviously) Your playing while sightreading is much more rough and unrefined and definitely not telling of your skill level, but it is hella interesting and fun cause seeing you guys trying to challenge yourself and like in this video, it is like a prank to throw you off from guessing about who was actually playing which.
2. The improvement is immeasurable. Again, coming back from your old vids and hearing your playing compare to recent videos now, which was featured in this vid, for a non-trained musician, one can tell you two improved a lot, especially Eddy since his tone and musicality on his old violin is more 'pressed' and now, his playing sound more expressive and 'freer' without hard pressing and that straining feeling. With Brett, his playing is more refined than before. The notes are more crisp, cleaner and rounder.
3. The different in phrasing from the both of you. The improvement make the different in characteristics in your playing more prominent. I really love the part when the editor put the comparison between how you two would phrase the same piece, like Monti -Csardas, the different in how your vibrato sound like. Really like this 'analysis' into your own playing.
4. Once again, practice is emphasis and is very important. It's really motivated me and warm my heart when Eddy said like 'how I played it back then' because these two tend to put themselves down because they know where they are, how they play, but also it's the affirmative that you improved after consistent years of practice that is very relatable to us as well. Brett shocked at himself because he didn't recognize his old playing (the monti ones) also shows me he changed and improved that's why he thought it wasn't him.
Lastly, as viewers since we are more familiar with their comedic, non-serious playing while sight reading that honestly we could recognize a lot of these clips but knowing you two didn't not because you don't know but you are more trained to hear your playing/practicing hard now, is encouraging in its own way. Keep it up guys, can't wait to see your future venture and Eddy 5mil drop since Brett worked so hard and played so beautifully already!
Bonus:
Love the part when both of you are unsure if you have played it before or who play it, you two just move your hand just to confirm how you would play it.
The fact both know each other quite clear and just like, 'I know you played that piece and I dont' so it's just meant the other person.
Also the last one is really wholesome, they immediately just guess the other because the sounds are really good but also they know themselves enough to know it is definitely not them XD.

For non-musicians : try to imagine your friends or family read out your poems/fictions/tweets from years ago and you can’t even remember what happened then. It’s part of you and your creation for sure and there must be some interesting pieces of it but you would still feel awkward or fear for some reason. Thanks for sharing this with us! It’s so touching and inspiring as well!
I got all one. Listen to your vibrato's. Eddy, you do not start the vibrato on every note--short notes don't matter, but long notes start out as a pure tone and then the vibrato kicks in. Brett's tone is enriched by the vibrato right from the start of each note.
I feel like Brett's playing is somewhat softer and Eddy has a bit more of an aggressive style, but not by much. Eddy seems more confident when sight-reading and hits cleaner high notes on the spot, while Brett sounds like he can recover really well from mistakes and his sound is somewhat rounder. This is coming from someone who doesn't play violin, so I may just be talking out my ass, but guessing with this in mind really helped me get most of them right :D

Really? I thought the otherwise.. brett's play sounds more aggressive and his technique is confident. But eddy has better tone and phrasing. I recon brett's often have more flat note not always, not much but yeah.. it's quite obvious (lmao my violin teacher makes me practice scales everyday for hours with tuner before I jump to piece, my fingers often give up but my ears have sharpened)

Yeah, his tone on that piece is very nice. I think it probably helped that the room has nice acoustics for the recording.

It's so amazing how despite twoset always playing together, I had difficulty telling but when I could, I realized that each of their playing had their own character!! Brett seems to be slightly more refined and his playing is really smooth and gentle while Eddy's is a bit more rough, and I love the contrast!! Personally I actually really like Brett's playing 😍 But thanks Twoset for doing this!! You both should do vids like this more often!!

I chose Brett bc when Brett plays, he has a much deeper sound on the G string than Eddy, puts more pressure and sometimes you can hear the articulation from Brett. Eddy on the other hand plays more of a lighter and faster feeling.
You are both too good to be putting yourselves down like that. I struggle daily on the violin, and I wish I could play as well as either of you. Unfortunately, you have only learned to hear the problems in your playing, and are missing the big picture. You are both fine violinists and should be proud!

I got the first 14 in a row correct lol… Brett’s timbre always feels… lighter/higher and kind of “flowy” and Eddy’s feels a bit… sharper and lower/deeper and has more distinct edges between phrases and notes. Brett always seems like he comes in softer, and the lines feel smoother? I only play piano and not even that well, and I’ve never done any aural training… I guess I’ve just watched too many TwoSet videos lol. My intuition based on how it sounds seems to be enough to tell them apart very consistently.
This reminds me sb once commented they would love to see a video where brett and eddy practice the same piece seperately and then compare how they interpret it differently!

I knew the last one was Ray because Hilary Hahn likes to slur the quarter notes; Ray slurs the first two (as written), and then plays more separate bow strokes. He plays more of what is written. Ray's bowing: slur two, separate, separate, slur two, slur three, etc.
Hilary's: slurs two, slurs four, slurs three, separate, separate, slur two, etc.
Also, I have lately been obsessed with this concerto, and my all-time favorite (surprisingly! I say sarcastically) is Hilary Hahn, and I always noticed how she plays differently than what's written, and have really admired and appreciated how she likes to phrase it, how she somehow keeps that sorta . . . I don't know how to describe it. That tone? It's just as thick, as smooth as other players, yet, different, because it's her own style, and it's just so different, yet so similar, and hmmff, it's so good. Eddy to me has very distinct vibratos, and he has a generally more vibrant and dramatic way of playing. Brett's playing has a bit more weight to it, generally more mellow, but this lends him a surprisingly powerful sound when he really goes for it, like in clip #9.

Basically, Brett tends to play the pieces that are slower and more melodious while Eddy tends to play the pieces that require many strokes in quick succession.

I'm not a musician, but I love TwoSet. This was very interesting and fun to watch. It made me think of how we each don't always recognize who we are, what we do, and how we come across to others. Many times we see a character trait (usually a negative trait) in someone else, but we are totally unaware that we exhibit that exact trait.
I actually think they are lowkey very fine musicians. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the quality and intensity of many of these passages. Very rich and satisfying to listen to. Now, I’m not a huge fan of Bach but Eddy’s Sonata No. 1 Adagio just hit different, man; it warped me to some deserted 16th century field, wind blowing, everything grey and desolate. The all too few bars played said so much. They articulated someone who was gutted and spent - it painted a troubling picture and yet I was hooked and wanted to hear more. Shame it ended. Re: Brett, well the Weinswski Polonaise was just sweet, some of the shifts were golden, tone was nuanced, and some of the complex string crossings where oh so finessed. In one word: Delicious!

@@londongael414 Glad I could help. My dream is to judge one of these competitions. I’m not a violinist, but you could say that I’m pretty much the Hilary Hahn among listeners. I actually do listenings where musicians play for me. I don’t teach technique but I point out where there interpretations fall flat. For years many experienced musicians just couldn’t figure out why Lang Lang was wildly popular with audiences. It’s because he knows how to make music. Playing music and making music are two different things. When you learn to bend melodies to your will, you’re halfway there. It’s sort of like being an interpreter or translator. If you stick slavishly to the text - no matter how correct it is - you end up with a dry boring rendition. When you betray the text to make it your own you sometimes end up with the very result the composer intended. The point is to convey ideas not notes. You need the notes, but they are only part of the equation.

I’m going to call out TwoSet for one of the comments in the video. (It was so funny.) Brett made a comment saying: “Too much technique.” So, Eddy, in a passive-aggressive way, knowing that the connoisseur can’t play that passage goes: “Can you show me how it’s done then?” Low blow, Eddy. It was funny, but it reveals a very interesting dynamic. Don’t expect listeners to have no opinion, at all, of a performance, or to always be congratulatory. You want the most demanding audience you can get! They make you better, and when the victories come, they will be all the sweeter. As far as opinions go, you take what you can use, leave the rest.
But musicians should always play for non-musicians every now and then. You will always get comments that you didn’t expect ... for better or worse.

This was so fun! I stumbled on your videos a couple of weeks ago! I was playing along and listening for bow pressure, I feel like overall Brett uses more pressure with his bow that leads to a more assertive style and I feel like Eddy really plays into melodic highs and lows/phrasing and tends to really contrast sfp as much as possible. Love both of your styles!
I'm getting these all right so far. Brett seems to glissando more than eddy. Their vibrato is also very different but eddy points that out

I have come to develop an ear for who plays by their style of playing.
Eddy tends to sound more gritty and aggressive.
Brett tends to rush sometimes but has a more light and airy sound.
Both have their own styles but sound awesome!

Guys, you really give me motivation! I'm always thinking about quitting or going on a long hiatus on violin but after watching some of your videos I become super motivated and wanna practise 40 hours a day :D Also you always make me laugh hardly especially these days that I'm unmotivated because my violin is small for me and doesn't have a good quality. But that doesn't matter after watching you, I'll try my best!
you should watch the video where Eddy compares his new and old violin. apparently his old violin was so bad it would make you practice wrong and he had it forever. so don't feel too bad lol, and make sure to buy a proper violin whenever you do buy a new one. get your teacher or someone experienced to test it before buying :p

I'm a pianist and Eddy's style is pretty close to how I persieve the music, he's more passionate in culminations (or even aggressive like smone said in the comments 😆) and tender to the melodies, his style is introverted and philosophical, and also romantic. But I still prefer Brett because you can spot newer things in his playing and kinda do your playing more "objective" since Brett plays spectacular and kinda more logical or like "extraverted", and closer to that "famous musician" sound. And I find their styles correlate with their life personalities

I’m not a violinist so I definitely struggle when pointing out the technical parts when listening. But for some reason, I can tell if it’s Eddy playing regardless of the violin he’s using because it sounds so sweet. Is it just me who has that impression of his playing?
I went about guessing in a similar but opposite way. Brett usually sounds heavier and more dramatic to me
I've watched the recent ray chen video an unhealthy amount of times and could straight away tell the ones from that video. Including the ray one at the end lol I'm obsessed with that video 🫣
Editor San should've thrown one in where it was one of you playing, but not on the violin.

This was so fun! I enjoyed playing along as well as seeing your reactions to yourselves playing.
It's interesting to me that while I only have a feeling of "Oh, that sounds like Brett," or "That matches my image of Eddy playing," they could actually analyze and explain _why_ it sounded like one or the other.
Two interesting things that happened with my guessing:
Dance of the Knights sounded like Eddy at the beginning, but suddenly sounded like Brett at the end to me
On one round I had no clue, but I somehow knew they both thought it was Eddy 😂
Brett not knowing it was him is like me two days ago when I heard a recording of me during rehearsals. I was so surprised it sounded that good that I had to really ask if it was me. You both are so amazing, I know you two poke fun of yourselves but you guys sound INCREDIBLE. Please don’t ever say any different. The 40hrs really pay off 💪🏽
I love this video!!! Especially during the part of Clip 11. As a non-musician, my untrained ear realized the differences in their playing when their recordings/videos were played after each other. Thanks Editor-san!!!
