- All dung beetles belong to the superfamily Scarabaeoidea, but only those in the Scarabaeinae group feed entirely on dung. These are the true dung beetles. Dung beetles have different feeding behaviours, such as rolling, tunnelling and burying, but how did they first evolve to eat poop?

📛 Seriously though, as I was typing out my ^dumb joke, I started hearing the video's producers airing what is apparently just a "stock audio track" of nature sounds, which includes the obvious mating call of eastern American grey tree frogs(immediately after 1:17). Thats odd, considering the video footage ISNT of eastern American nature, it's primarily African!
🤨 I've recently noticed this strange phenomenon of producers from major media outlets using "stock audio footage of grey tree frog mating calls" in LOTS of videos about a myriad of nature topics that don't remotely involve eastern US nature! I recently heard it in a video about the Amazon.
As always, great video. This channel is one of the best I have ever encountered on youtube. Keep going, good job.

I know this is an episode about poop but I'm so glad your channel was suggested. Evolution is my favorite scientific topic and your channel is a goldmine for questions I've had for years. Your channel provides an excellent example of how evolution is a passive pressure that leads to major changes in a species. So many people misunderstand that creatures don't chose to evolve they simply do because of reasonable pressures
How possible all this evolved from no where? I think some one created everything we see or can't see ~ imo

We have dung beetles so bad this year in our small Texas horse pasture. Ours don’t seem to make balls at least not that I’ve seen but they’re so bad & so many in the poop piles you can hear them eating & the pile looks like it’s moving.

The weirdest thing to think about is that we are motivated to eat what is good for us by our brains making it taste good to us. Poop tastes bad to us because it would make us sick. Candy tastes good because it is calorie dense which helps us survive. So to these beetles, slurping down the liquid from shitballs must be absolutely delicious.
