  • The plaintiffs are a husband and wife. The husband went to high school with the defendant, so they hired the defendant to build two new decks on their house. The plaintiffs say the decks were built incorrectly and in bad shape. They’re suing for their money back. The defendant argues the plaintiffs were happy with the work and shared photos of the decks when the work was finished.
    Case: 31-225.

Many business owners and freelancers hurt themselves by not providing quality service. Instead, they do a half job for a quick buck, not realizing it is more profitable to maintain a good rapport with customers because they will continue to use their services or recommend them to others. A reputation for doing shoddy work can cost them long-term and deter future customers.

For what it's worth, although the defendant could have voluntarily chosen to return the full amount to the plaintiff (unlikely), the judge could not mandate that he return more than the statutory maximum for their state for a small claims matter such as this, which was $3000. The judge gave them back as much as she was able, but she is still bound by the law. Additionally, I think it was likely a typo or autocorrect, but just in case, I think you meant "shoddy" work, rather than "shotty" work (which is what you wrote).

You use stainless fasteners when around salt water. The air around the beach is extremely corrosive to most metals. We use a stone coated stainless steel to do metal roofs along the beaches here in Florida. All the fasteners are not even exposed to the elements (they're under the material) and they're still stainless steel.

I thought perhaps not knowing why the nails were turning black was something excusable, but anyone who regularly works with wood should know about it splitting and how to prevent that. Could it have split after the work was done? I'm wondering if he saw it and ignored it or if it's something that could happen over time?

This guy killed his own case!!! With his attitude and his shitty work!!! Man what an arrogant asshole!!! I would NEVER EVER hire a man like that! If his customers happiness doesn't come first then he doesn't have a business and I seriously hope if he continues doing work like this the rest of his customers sue him as well!

That wood is splitting already, materials are substandard, workmanship is horrid and his attitude is so offputting. If that's how he is talking to the judge, he must have been a rude pompous ass to the poor plaintiffs. These fb groups are not trustworthy, reviews are always padded by the friends and family.

The defendant assumed that because JM is a woman, and a judge she ain't going to know nothing about construction and it backfired.
Bruh, if I were you I will move overseas cause you just lost your dignity on live TV. 🤡🤡🤡🤣😂😂😂

@@ButtonsCasey Yea, but if you're in your 40s and had all your teeth pulled, something is wrong. Then again, they have a "I stand for our national anthem" sign so it's not like they're in favor of government-assisted dental care.
