Even though that is probably true, Apple is known for putting faster ssd’s in higher capacity configurations. Basically, the base models of their products tent to have slower ssd’s. That could play a part.
@@numberIII-th5gr i think 256gb for creators is not enough, so I'd rather go and buy 512, 8gb version :) I'm a music producer myself and having a good amount of ssd memory is crucial for me
True BUT, 256GB is not enough in today’s world either and the write and read speeds are way worse than the 516GB, you should aim to have 30-40% of your capacity always free. The sweet spot is 16GB and 516GB
recently bought a 512/8gb MacBook air m1 and the app launch speeds were noticeably slower compared to my Razer which uses similar ssd capacity and 16gb ram even though the razer is 3 years older
You do realize that’s gonna cause your computer to stress and overheat more often, and that you’re gonna constantly be using swap memory which requires you having a lot of free SSD space….
i would really like to see how it compares the 8gb m1 vs the older 2019 intel i7 macs (16 -32 gb ram), since those are dirty cheap even at 16" cost the same than the cheapest m1 macbook air.
Well theoretically because there are more chips on a larger capacity SSD the speed increases by a small percentage but the ram difference is something you are going to feel
It needs to use the SSD as RAM memory as the 8GB is not enough. SSD is slower than RAM.. Moreover, over years, the SSD will be toasted.. Never go for a 8gb unless it is all about word processing and browsing the internet.
@@SergioBlackDolphin yeah I feel it with my base rn but I cannot do anything about it... Apple doesn't do installment with its online store (Malaysia) but through apple resellers and they only have 8/256 or 8/512... It's due to the ssd not the ram, having a bigger ssd means that you'll have more nand chips. Data is split between all the nand chips which improves write speeds. The difference in performance is too big to be ram related. So it's the ssd
Funny, my Macbook Air M2 loads in a 1.2gb photoshop file in 7 seconds. It has 8gb as well. My buddies MB Air M2 loads the same file in 8 seconds. He has 16gb. If you want a fast Macbook, you don't get the Macbook Air. You get a Macbook Pro. I have my entire music studio connected to one single 2022 Macbook Air M2. I run Serato DJ Pro linked with Ableton Live 12 Suite, with a Roland DJ-505, two AudioTechnica PLX120 turntables, two Denon DJ SC5000M tabletops (dvs enabled of course), Behringer TD-3, Roland TR-909 (yes, the original one) and a Boss RC-505 on this Macbook Air at the same time and record all my stuff in Audacity when mixing and in Ableton itself when producing. Do take a not, the DJ-505 comes with a built-in TR-S drummachine. And people still claim you need 16 or even 32gb of ram. I never had a hickup. Just make sure you do not run all sorts of crap software on your mac at the same time and get rid of any bloatware immediately. I mean, who on earth needs book reading software on a Macbook ? It takes 1.1gb of continuous ram usage to even start up and run.
This is only relevant for a system where an 8GB upgrade in RAM or a 256GB storage both cost $200, and both can only be done when you order. Greed is good?
Ok ok memory pressure will have an impact, but I think most of impact is simply because of faster SSD (if you don’t have a lot of things already running in the background)
Not necessarily. Brandnew with an empty SSD both should be quite similar. BUT when the RAM is full and the SSD is pretty much filled up then working becomes really slow. So if you plan on using it as your main work machine you should definitely get more storage or more RAM or even better both. Otherwise you loose a lot of the M1s performance over time. You could work primarily on external hard drive and keep your internal drive as empty as possible but thats always quite a hassle so really think about an upgrade.
