How Do You Improve An Imperfect Hit Song That Started As A Joke? Cowbell, MORE COWBELL! “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”, as performed by Canadian rock band Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO), was written by vocalist, guitarist Randy Bachman. It appeared as the fourth song on their third album 'Not Fragile'. It wasn't originally intended to be on the album since it was still being developed and what had been recorded was only a "work tape" (more later). 'Not Fragile' was recorded in 1974 at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, California and was released in September 1974. “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” was also released as a single (slightly edited) in September 1974. 'Not Fragile' became BTO's most popular album reaching #1 on both the US and Canadian charts. “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” was also a best seller. It entered the Billboard Hot 100 at #65 on Sep 21, 1974 and reached #1 on Nov 9, 1974. In the same week it also reached #1 on Canada's RPM chart and the US Cash Box Top 100 chart. In the UK it was on the singles chart for 12 weeks- entering at #34 on Nov 16, 1974 and reaching #2 on Dec 21, 1974. It was also #1 in Germany, Denmark, and New Zealand and top 10 in many other countries. The early version of “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” was intended to be a joke on Randy's brother Gary who had a stuttering problem. Randy never intended to release it with the stuttering vocal. He said "I was going to mix one copy of that and send it to him on a cassette, so I sang over it once. The guitars are not even in tune in that song. It was basically just an instrumental and I was fooling around... I wrote the lyrics, out of the blue, and stuttered them through." It ended up on the album because Charlie Fach of Mercury Records felt there was no hit single among the other tracks. Randy reluctantly played the work tape for Fach and said "We have this one song, but it's a joke. I'm laughing at the end. I sang it on the first take. It's sharp, it's flat, I'm stuttering to do this thing for my brother." Fach loved it. Randy tried singing an alternate version without the stutter but it just didn't work. Even after the album was out, Randy was embarrassed to allow “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” to be released as a single. The lyrics, especially "She took me to her doctor and he told me of a cure," led to rumors that the song was about herpes or some other social disease. According to Randy, the lyrics were just words he improvised. He thought it was stupid but finally gave in to pressure and said "O.K., release it. I bet it does nothing." In actual fact, it was a million-selling single! This one may be "just for fun", with Milena coming up with all those ways to kill time between the choruses... but don't be distracted by all the laughing you're doing... because there's some really tasty drumming going on here! What I noticed most were all the little hitches (the breaks in the steady groove) and amazing fills that are sprinkled from end to end. Not to mention that amazing extended outro. I used to hate songs that faded out instead of having a real ending, but when Sina covers one I love the extra groove we get!
Completely agree. "Tasty" indeed. This is Sina taking an OK old classic and turning it into something extra special. BTO would've gone higher, faster, longer with Sina on the throne. Prefer having her with us now, though!

Both my brother and I have hazel eyes. It comes from having one parent with blue eyes (our father) and one parent with brown eyes (our mother). We are the only ones in our huge extended family with this eye color.
What I like about Sina is she actually moves like a drummer. Most of the other RUclipsrs lack excitement and energy in their drumming. Watch a professional drummer and their bodies groove to the music because they feel it. So does Sina. She jams from head to toe.

Mike Wasko many times in life we are faced with things we have no control over! How we react to these things has a tendency to show our true character! My biggest concern is that my 88 year old mother will see me go before her!
Douglas, until recently I had been a volunteer at a small hospice for cancer guests. It might surprise people, (and be contrary to what one might expect) but I enjoyed going into that place on every shift. While there was sadness around for sure, I was more struck by the humanity and uplifting spirit that permeated inside those walls. Brave guests, loving families and friends, and truly caring staff. It was my good fortune to have met and interact with all of them. Families were invited to write up a short biography of their loved ones, which was placed in a binder for all to read. I read some of the most interesting life stories that I had ever heard of; just from reading that binder; all from seemingly "ordinary" people who were, in fact, anything but ordinary. I am relating this to you, Douglas, because I can tell from your comment that you too are one of those brave and fascinating people. Don't stop loving the music. The best to you.
I got really lucky and my thyroid cancer was caught basically by accident and it had not spread to my lymph nodes or gotten loose to terrorize my body. Doug I am sorry you have to go through the hell of being terminally ill. I went through it with my father. I left him at 2:30 am after a night of guitar playing just like almost every other night and he passed sometime after I left him and 8am when a family friend found him. Be strong brother I will being praying for you.

Thank you ladies for this song from my coming-of-age high-school years. I was so proud of The Guess Who and BTO being compatriots and making the top of the charts around the world. Takin' Care of Business was another super-hit from BTO. RIP Robbie and Tim Bachman. When I saw BTO and Burton Cummings together at the 2003 SARS Concert in Toronto, I was in heaven! Now, thanks to RUclips and Sina and Milena, I get to relive that magic cowbell and drumming!
So many of the songs that Sina covers came out many years before she was born. She has good taste and she plays these songs as if she was the actual bands drummer.

I've had a few other female drummers suggested by RUclips over the last months, suggesting songs Sina has done covers for. I've looked, trying to be objective, and although a few have their technique down, they just don't have the Groove! Therefore, they sound robotic. Bless you Sina! #GirlsGotGroove

This song was on the first album I ever bought... I was in 6th grade! I love the hilarious way Milena adds to this video (and who doesn't like more cowbell?) My son started playing drums at the age of 9, and continues to play now that he's in his 30's. He's very good, and that helps me appreciate the vast skill I see Sina display. You're an amazing drummer (and pretty good on the bass too!)
Listen to the later Bachman-Turner lineup and you reallize that without Rob Bachman something is just a little bit "off." He was a big part of their sound. Helluva showman, too!
Very good drumming! I had no idea drumming was such skill until it was illustrated visually like this to me from different real-time angles. To have the rhythm and brain-acuity to multi-task like that in real-time is quite a talent! Talent + hard work = mad skillz.

I am aging myself here LOL but I was a mere lad of 16 when this was released, it was the song of songs here in Canada for that part of the year. Thank you Sina for being , as Max put it , a great back up drummer to the Queen of Cowbell. I've been subscribed for a while and have loved 💕 every minute. I'm 72 and you're hitting all the greatest from the 60's on up. Man you're awesome. Your sis, Milena is cool. She knitted, read book and newspaper, drank, snacked and at the end played with the dog. Did all that and still had time to play with the cowbell. Keep it up!

When I was a teenager living in Vancouver, the manager for BTO lived a couple of blocks from my house, across the street from a small park where we used to play baseball and football. Occasionally the band would have a get together at the house and rock the neighborhood. Thanks for the childhood throwback.
What a gem! Sina continues to hone her craft and it shows in her speed and precision while maintaining the fluidity in her grooves. Add a little cowbell and attitude from Milena and this great BTO song is elevated into a sparkling gem! Loving it!
I've been a BTO Fan since their inception! I learned the importance of playing "traps" early on in the 5th grade, a few years before I started 3 years of drum lessons. I'm a big Fan of Sina and equally of Milena because her Comedic expression of a seemingly menial and yet integral part of Music, GOOD Music is by far, superb! Rock On, Milena!
This is the most brilliant thing I've seen in a long time. To put a bored girl doing humdrum things, crocheting, reading the newspaper, bored, and then comes alive to hit the cowbell. lol There is something viral about this. At times I even thought of the intro on the Brady Bunch TV show how in the intro the Brady Bunch kids look over or down at each other in the different squares. The bored girl is sorta of doing the same thing looking over at the drummer. I'm floored. I was equally entertained by the drumming as I was with the bored girl. I could not take my eyes off it. This video is Classic. Genius. Brilliant. I dont know what else to say.

What I like about Sina is she actually moves like a drummer. Most of the other RUclipsrs lack excitement and energy in their drumming. Watch a professional drummer and their bodies groove to the music because they feel it. So does Sina. She jams from head to toe.

Mike Wasko many times in life we are faced with things we have no control over! How we react to these things has a tendency to show our true character! My biggest concern is that my 88 year old mother will see me go before her!
Douglas, until recently I had been a volunteer at a small hospice for cancer guests. It might surprise people, (and be contrary to what one might expect) but I enjoyed going into that place on every shift. While there was sadness around for sure, I was more struck by the humanity and uplifting spirit that permeated inside those walls. Brave guests, loving families and friends, and truly caring staff. It was my good fortune to have met and interact with all of them.
Families were invited to write up a short biography of their loved ones, which was placed in a binder for all to read. I read some of the most interesting life stories that I had ever heard of; just from reading that binder; all from seemingly "ordinary" people who were, in fact, anything but ordinary.
I am relating this to you, Douglas, because I can tell from your comment that you too are one of those brave and fascinating people. Don't stop loving the music. The best to you.
I got really lucky and my thyroid cancer was caught basically by accident and it had not spread to my lymph nodes or gotten loose to terrorize my body. Doug I am sorry you have to go through the hell of being terminally ill. I went through it with my father. I left him at 2:30 am after a night of guitar playing just like almost every other night and he passed sometime after I left him and 8am when a family friend found him. Be strong brother I will being praying for you.

I've had a few other female drummers suggested by RUclips over the last months, suggesting songs Sina has done covers for. I've looked, trying to be objective, and although a few have their technique down, they just don't have the Groove! Therefore, they sound robotic. Bless you Sina! #GirlsGotGroove

I grew up in Canada in the 70's and must have heard this song 100's of times through the years but this video brought whole new life to a song that I would never thought I'd want to listen to again.Thanks for making my day.
This song was on the first album I ever bought... I was in 6th grade! I love the hilarious way Milena adds to this video (and who doesn't like more cowbell?) My son started playing drums at the age of 9, and continues to play now that he's in his 30's. He's very good, and that helps me appreciate the vast skill I see Sina display. You're an amazing drummer (and pretty good on the bass too!)

Thank you Sina for being , as Max put it , a great back up drummer to the Queen of Cowbell. When I was a teenager living in Vancouver, the manager for BTO lived a couple of blocks from my house, across the street from a small park where we used to play baseball and football. Occasionally the band would have a get together at the house and rock the neighborhood. Thanks for the childhood throwback.

I've been a BTO Fan since their inception! I learned the importance of playing "traps" early on in the 5th grade, a few years before I started 3 years of drum lessons. I'm a big Fan of Sina and equally of Milena because her Comedic expression of a seemingly menial and yet integral part of Music, GOOD Music is by far, superb! Rock On, Milena!
This is the most brilliant thing I've seen in a long time. To put a bored girl doing humdrum things, crocheting, reading the newspaper, bored, and then comes alive to hit the cowbell. lol
There is something viral about this. At times I even thought of the intro on the Brady Bunch TV show how in the intro the Brady Bunch kids look over or down at each other in the different squares.
