We should talk about why sandy isnt a marriage character? Like she would be the perfect wife! Not only that but i think kids should look more like the npc's. Like if they has there hair color or an attribute of them, i think that would be cool. Also thank you salamence for your content I really like it!
I'm certainly not a game dev so maybe I'm wrong but I feel like it wouldn't be hard to have it set up so your kids just randomly end up with either the player or spouse's eye/hair/skin color.
@@kennymation5344 maybe they could always add a guy who is from Joja or a pirate guy from ginger island? Or a guy who got Ship wrecked and you have to help him
Ideas for story progression: as time goes on, things might change about the other villager's relationships that have nothing to do with you. Maybe by Year 3, Shane and Haley will have warmed up a little even if you don't gain any friendship with them at all. Robin and Demetrius might get divorced on their own and possibly become romanceable. After a few years, there could be a chance that npcs will start marrying each other, as long as you haven't started a relationship with them. Sebastian could leave town, like he expresses interest in at one point. I'm picturing this as like, an opt in system - like you could turn story progression on or off in the options at the beginning of the game - and random as to what exactly happens and when. I've had this idea bouncing around for awhile and I'm only recently getting into modding, but it might be interesting to consider how it could work.
@@knittinglizardsSorry but the idea that people who have been through divorce can't be in a relationship after their previous marriage is frankly ridiculous. People re-marry or start dating after getting divorced ALL the time. There is nothing wrong with that. (However, splitting up a happy couple for selfish reasons is obviously toxic, especially IRL.)
@@starsiadraws especially since robin is explicitly stated to have been married once before, even has a son from a previous marriage!! if she can do it once she can do it again lol
I find it weird about the Robin/Demtrius one. Honestly I think there should be a thing about Marnie and Louis, like maybe they make it more official. Not keep it hush hush but actually try to show it to everyone. I find it weird how Louis is so hesitant and yet even in that one cutscene you can't really compromise about their relationship.
I'd wouldn't mind a Stardew sequel in the same manner that Pokemon has sequels. Same format with a different village, new villagers, new monsters and item, different and new quests, and so forth. Or a sequel that allows to explore and interact with more of the world rather than being farm focused. Overall I'm open to the idea provided Concerned Ape puts his heart and happiness into it, and its not a some cheap cashgrab like most sequels are. Until then, I have mods.
I like that idea, but like they say why would you do one now? My only thought would be because CA wanted to do a more 3d game with isometric views or something. It would be because he wanted to create a new game in a new engine.
8:29 I think a mod (instead of a sequel) where the game takes place in the future would be great. Everyone is older, the bachelor-bachelorettes are now parents, Vincent and Jas are adults, and the older townspeople have passed. It would be cool to see Leah as the new carpenter, or Shane taking Marnie’s position, etc. The premise could be you (new farmer) inherits the farm from your parent (original farmer). The now older bachelor-bachelorette’s kids could be the new bachelor-bachelorettes, and maybe even older Vincent and Jas. The town could change slightly as well showing how it’s changed after the decades between the games, like new shops or different styles houses, gravesites for george and Evelyn, etc.
I would like if they do, like a marriage one for after you finish most of the game than the husband or wife brings up getting a job and you discuss sharing a income wether you want to or not and than there is another bundle but it’s for a married or roommate life simulation to help you finish your farm and have Penny babysit your kids if she isn’t the spouse or have the family recognize you as their in law and babysit the kids ( maybe maru helps Robin with the kid and does a science project with them and Sebastian comes to his moms to see Maru and the baby laughing and can’t help but be happy they are getting along.)
@@NaturalAegyo Robin invites you to eat with them at the winter festival but not as like a Mother in law to there son/ daughter in law. So it doesn’t really count
This was a cool concept, I’d like to see more! Talking about children in Stardew though, I agree I don’t need my children to do farmwork or to have some practical purpose, but the fact is they don’t really give the feeling of having a child. You don’t get to see your child learn to speak, develop any kind of personality, or become an individual in any meaningful way. I think they need a rework not for purpose, but for a more interesting experience.
The playing the game wrong argument that appears in every video game community of, "You can't play a game wrong" is fundamentally flawed, because it assumes that every player is getting enjoyment out of a game. There are players that misunderstand game mechanics, refuse to read tutorials, or give up when challenged in any way, and then say that the game is bad. Those players are playing the game wrong. The argument of "you can't play a game wrong" only works if you assume all people are doing so in good faith, which they aren't.
Friends and Opinions, just perfect. Also I think that is better that the babies don't have any purpose, because no every person have babies for the same reasons/circumstances. In the valley every NPC is different, and you as a Farmer, Also are unique. You are free to choose any purpose, if you want to have a purpose anyway. In this way, any choice is the good choice. With an specific path or goal, you are giving up almost infinite posibilities.
I actually have a question and Ik it’s like a while after you posted this and you might not answer but I have like over ten worlds on stranded valley I unlocked everything and I just keep redoing it right and like you said on the last video there’s multiple games similar and the person who made stardew valley (can’t remember) keeps updating it and they stop are we just going to constantly redo the same thing over and over again once they stop? Or do we go to one of the remakes of stardew valley??
It would be a lot of work to make, but it would be cool if you got different children depending on who your spouse is and they grew up to be teens and had dialogue. A mechanic where you have to actually take care of them to raise them would be cool as well.
We gotta get nino kito up in here, also i think that rather than a sequel, we could have a game about the other side in the war between where stardew valley is and where kent comes from
I strongly agree with the babys should having a purpose, even tho I dont know how i would have that implemented. They are at this moment just glorified furniture...
would _i_ personally like a stardew valley sequel? absolutely, i would love it tbh. does stardew valley _need_ a sequel? i don't think so. i'm sure there are some good ideas that could come out of it, but i don't think that any of those ideas absolutely need a sequel i think i'd be terrible on this series just because my personal biases would leak into everything lmao, everyone seems to be pretty good at not being that way though (besides the penny thing lol)
9:30. honestly i think, that there should be a sequel, just where there are new characters (like a female morris with different hair and traits or something like that, or more characters you can date) and maybe a new map
something that i've always wanted in the game in the bachelors and bachelorettes should be able to be married between themselves. I would love for Shane to get a happy ending with someone, as long as it isn't me. Maru and Harvey would be such a cute couple.
Tbh i was thinking about children in SV aaaand i dunno.... Like yeah when they small they may attend school with others, but at the same time it would be interesting to see them interact with our farm somehow, play with a doggy or cat, pet animals so it can be sorta count as we petted them, like make them being more interactive? with the game world not just being some pixels going around your house. It would be nice if they were livable? i guess? Like they interact with us, attend fairs with us, find something, do something, but maybe its just too much. And why we always have boy and girl, why not twins or 2 boys/girls?)
The only thing I get super upset about in stardew valley is honestly marriage and kids. I don’t understand why you spend so much time getting a spouse so that they can become walking decorations that speak once a day and may occasionally do something and get out of the house. I want more heart events with my spouse! I want them to still have their own life and i want us to have a life together, you know? The kids are even worse. They could have events too, like learning to speak! Or maybe they could have a randomized personality, I don’t know, something! I just wish we got more out of those relationships, not as a mechanical way or like as a way to get benefits financially or whatever, I just want the relationship part to be better honestly. Idk if that’s asking for too much, but for me stardew valley would be perfect if having a spouse and a kid felt more meaningful and “real”…
This should be a series. About the sequel topic, there won't be one cause EB/CA enjoys adding to the original game, proven by updates. The game will expand more than other indie games have done with him listening to the supporters, the game will keep going so there is no need for a sequel and he's not the capitalist type otherwise the game would have expansion packs like the Sims franchise.
I think the only idea of a sequel that would make sense to me would be to make it a very different game that enhances on the lore, like making the tale of someone in zuzu city? Or talking about the wars that have happened. But to be fair, those could easily just be stories
I personally find Shane more forgivable. He's really just closed off rather than outwardly insulting. He pretty much says 'Why are you talking to me? I just want to be left alone." He's abrasive, sure, but he's not demeaning like Haley.
I don't think a sequel, but I'd love to see more games in the same universe with small references. Maybe a game where you live in town and your neighbor is Leah's ex, for example. Stardew is very magical and open ended, so having different narratives in the same universe that doesn't necessarily continues a storyline is very much valid.
If Stardew had a sequel, I'd love it to see the NPCs age up and, possibly, remove older characters? Like, an older Emily now owns the saloon, and maybe Jas is the new school teacher. Abigail is now in the wizard tower as a middle aged woman, but she still visits the town. It'd be interesting to see how the town would grow and if there's new NPCs to romance and befriend. And I think it'd wrench our hearts to look at the graveyard, see it expanded a little and see "rest in peace Evelyn & George" on a tombstone.
It such a miss opportunity to not have tamagotchi like relationship with your child spawn. It only make sense in this type of game and everytime you feed, change the diaper, discipline, and get them to go sleep for their nap/bedtime, you get a whole heart from your spouse and half a heart for your child. No, they don’t need a purpose but it shouldn’t this hard for a game developer to make me invested in a made up child if I can be invested in his made up characters.
18:32 dud f you, Penny was the first who i married in the game, and even after i started to be based and marry Abigail every new game, Penny is still a character that i love
Communist Argon absolutely floored me - I see Seanie's point that I'd like them to have more story involvement but also just having little babies running around is nice
Good sir, WHERE IS THE COMBAT GUIDE? Please help this poor soul by uploading it. I NEED your guidance in Stardew Valley combat system. Also, should I sell the galaxy sword?
I’m totally for a SV sequel. I won’t consider it a cash grab. You can change the start so the player character and their family move into a different town and run a farm together. It can be a town mayor life sim, or the player character is an explorer and visits people in different places. Kids don’t have to have a purpose or vale but it would be cool if they grow a little older and join the egg hunt for example (perfect sequel content). Also Haley and Shane don’t have to nice to you from minute one. They’re being rude but not monsters. : )
why...do we hate penny? Penny is my and my boyfriends favourite character, we did a race to her heart in our "challenge" farm but I've not seen a single person appreciate her and it starts to get annoying lol. Penny isn't even the worst character in this game. I have not seen many people put up a fair argument to the penny hate. On a side note. Children need some more use. Just a slight bit of. I would take anything, even the smallest update(s) for the children here and there. Even just being able to perform a little interaction with them once they get into that "run around and do nothing" stage. be able to talk to them, play with them. something!
I'd be fine with a spiritual successor to stardew valley, but not a sequel. HC could easily fill that niche, but it doesn't need to feel like a sequel to have potential
The only real argument for Penny being the worst character is that she's possibly the most boring. I still like her more than several other characters though, because boring is still better than being a dick, lol
What if Stardew Valley had a prequel game? Where you play as a young farmhand to the grandfather. There you meet several of the 'older' residence as their younger selves as well as several new characters who together are just starting to build the town. To add a touch of challenge grandfather can make his own changes regarding how the farm should be arranged and it can randomize as being beneficial, harmful, to wtf, and the player has to work around these changes. (At first i thought the player should be playing grandpa in this prequel but since the beginning of original shows him as white in the cutscene it would reduce the amount of custom options for the player)
❤🧑🏽🦳🎮🍹 I would love 💕 to see a sequel to Nintendo Switch Stardew Valley, one because us players on Nintendo Switch love Stardew Valley would love 💕 to see the upgraded machinery being sold in robins shop, being able to give Linus & Pam a house, n Pierre shop more seeds n different kinds of fruit trees in his shop n lest time fighting in the mines, n more iridium found in the local mines & quarries, being able to buy new green houses n upgrade them to house all tree season of crops, spring summer & fall & give Caine the ability to sell iridium at a low price along with some more ores n lower the price of gold ore, n expand the forest area around the town, and give us a chance to ride to another town to buy items that we need like our own sewing 🧵 machine. Yes yes give the Nintendo Switch players a chance to have the Stardew Valley expanded quality of life and the modded machinery Laetittia 🧑🏽🦳🎮🍹
I don’t want the babies to have a mechanical purpose, but I want them to have like. A purpose of interest. Even if its just them aging enough to like, have dialogue or have a couple of heart events, that’s enough. They don’t need to improve my farm or do chores or whatever but I want them to be actual NPCs instead of a hatrack. (Thats what sea urchins are for!)
Totally agree! It's like you spend the entire game building relationships with everyone in town, having all these cutscenes, spend more time after marriage developing your relationship to then have kids and they do nothing. At least your spouse still goes to town and festivals and stuff. The kids literally never leave the house. It feels totally meaningless when a big part of the reason I love games like these are for the relationships you build.
I think its wild that there is more game mechanics built around murdering your kids in cold blood rather then them being an actual character you interact with when they grow up
I couldn't agree more! I don't need them doing anything productive for me - I want them to go out, maybe make friends with the other kids, go and learn from Penny and stuff like that. Have some personality instead of being a literal roadblock stopping me from moving around the house 😅
That's a great idea tbh - it introduces a new difficulty modifier in the late game, and would make the choice of having kids something to seriously think about and plan for (making sure you want that added difficulty, and you'd want to have a lot of automation set up as well)
Maybe that's true for the first year you have them, then as they grow older the randomized stamina slowly get higher and higher values, and then eventually it's back to the high parts, to show that they're grown up and not being little shits every second
16:24 he's got a point here, imagine if for example the children in stardew could hang out with Vincent and Jas, and take lessons with Penny and stuff like that
I mean, Demetrius puts the bar in hell when it comes to being a stepdad to Sebastian, so. Even if I was close in age to him (which I don't feel I am even if the game does allow me to marry him), I think he'd still prefer me tbh
I think I’m terms of a sequel I would rather have a companion game. Instead of being in Pelican Town with the same characters we know I would like something that is set in a different part of the same world and has a different story line. I think that’s why I’m excited for Haunted Chocolatier because it kind of gives off that vibe, even if it’s not exactly the same world.
Perhaps a prequel management type game (think 'Papers Please' or more accurately the recent 'Apature Desk Job' as it would involve story events) In which you play as the SV mc in the months before opening the envelope, working in Joja, this could reinforce the distaste most SV players have towards Joja and show the reason the MC opened that envelope in the first place.
i need the sequel to be in the same place cause, i want more Jas and Vincent cutscenes they deserve more character progression and if growing up and becoming datable is the only way they can get that then we need a second game
It may start off on a bit of a downer but I always thought a game taking place in the wartorn Gotoro Empire would be intersting. The war had just ended with the Gotoro's defeat and you help rebuild your farm and town from the ashes. Could have a lot of intersting possibiilites. That's being said I'm exited for Haunted Chocolatier.
I think it would be really cool if there was a prequel. You play as the grandpa when he was younger. You can see all of the same characters but everyone is younger.
@@Felix-on9dr I completely disagree. I have already the played literally the same game over multiple times (I think I'm at over a dozen playthroughs by now). I would happily play pretty much the exact same game just with different/younger characters and new lore.
Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't see why people think Robin and Demetrius aren't a good match. They seem like a happy couple, in their schedules they spend lots of time together watching the trees. The _only_ thing that points to anything else is their little argument/misunderstanding, which every single married couple has...
When I created my very first Stardew Valley save file all those years ago and rode into the town for the first time, I was greeted by Lewis and Robin, and IMMEDIATELY I though: "Holy hell, this chick is hot. And she's got a sense of humor too. I'm definitely romancing her." ...Yyyeah. Imo, that's a good enough reason to split 'em up. I.e., both my lingering, ages old spite and the idea that no one should experience that kind of disappointment in SDV.
I tried to play Stardew Valley like three times and bounced off of it each time. It wasn't until I completely changed the way I approached the game that I was able to get to a point where I now have hundreds of hours in the game and keep putting in more. So yeah there are wrong ways and right ways to play the game but those ways will be different for different people. The wrong way to play Stardew is any way that you don't find fun.
Yeah, I usually take hiatus on the game whenever I find myself playing it like a routine/chore. So whenever I hop back in, I feel reinvigorated and full of ideas.
god that's so true. This year is the year I'm finally reaching my third year, unlocked the greenhouse before the 1st and idk if its because of all the tips and tricks I'd learned prior to my eternal hiatus where I made playing either unfun or just difficult but Stardew true enjoyment is following your own flow. But Midmaxing is a tempting then until you find yourself far too stress to play it.
Part of it is having the patience to play a game for so long. 1 year is actually a pretty big timesink in Stardew for most people, who will try to make the most of every day and can only stomach so much of the game. What helped me get past year 1 was learning to take the game slowly. I still play "fast" by most people's standards, but I don't feel like resetting anymore if I don't get the community center done in year 1 (still did, sort of. Spring 1 of year 2 was when I finished it.)
honestly i wish you could see characters like Jas and Vincent get older if you get to year 5+ as well as your kids becoming preschoolers with penny or they go on the bus to school somewhere else.
The way you had that like second angle for monologue-type answers was really cool. Was eye-catching because the gameplay has one angle only, ever. Nice touch
That was the goal! It's literally just us there talking, and I wanted to emulate the multiple camera angles that a live action recording would have, I'm glad it was appreciated!
Shane tells you to go away because he's miserable and depressed and often just seems confused why anyone in their right mind would talk to him. Haley is just mean af 😅
i've been saying this the whole time, at least shane has an excuse to act how he does, and he just wants to be left alone and if being standoffish pushes people away he's willing to do it to protect himself, while haley is just out on the attack, getting personal with her insults for no reason at all beyond being spoiled also shane is the only one to come out and apologize, haley changes, sure, and i like her for it, but she never specifically apologizes for the things she said to you, at least not that i can remember
Haley isn't as depressed as Shane but that doesn't mean she isn't in a bad situation from her perspective. She's in a place she hates and can't leave. The farmer is the literal embodiment of everything she doesn't like about Pelican Town. She's MEAN but a lot of her reactions are because she doesn't want anything to do with anyone there. It isn't until she starts to like the player that she understands and loves the Valley as well. Does it make up for it? No. But she also isn't just mean to be mean. She just legit finds farming gross and can't understand why you'd ever want that life.
Yeah, you just have evolve your children by exposing them to a prismatic shard. Afterwards, they’ll disappear for a bit, but they’ll give you some combat exp back.
she was ableist to george and makes george apologize which he didnt have to also in one of her cutscenes if you say that you dont want to have children or dont like children you loose a horrendous amount of friendship points which is so weird she forces you to like children basically
@@pushra9901 That's a consequence of friendship not having a separate 'progress bar' to romance. One of Penny's greatest goals in life is to start a family; of course a romantic interest saying they don't want kids would make her think "Oh, maybe they're not The One." A more realistic outcome would be for that to hurt your romantic chances with her without hurting your friendship, but that would be tedious to program.
(Penny heart event spoilers in this comment. Also, I started writing this with no idea this rant would develop, sorry for the wall of text) Penny has multiple heart events where your responses to her questions or actions can be very polarizing in friendship points. She is by far the most intense about her personal feelings of all the characters, and it seems that disagreeing with her causes her to intensely dislike you. In her 8 heart event she asks you if you would be a guest speaker for her class with Jas and Vincent. If you respond with the "No... I can't stand kids" option you lose ALL of the friendship you've garnered up to that point. I would understand if she disagreed with that sentiment and it made her evaluate whether the player is someone she would want to be with romantically, maybe even locked her out of being a romanceable option. But she just immediately throws your entire friendship under the bus without a second thought. Even weirder in the same event if you did decide to accept her offer of being a guest speaker she will ask the player if they ever considered being a parent, but a negative response here only has a tiny effect on friendship. It's definitely intentionally put into the game that way but it feels strange. In her 10 heart event, Penny has you meet her at the spa and confesses her feelings towards you. If you respond with "I don't feel that way about you" she bursts into tears and the player loses all friendship points with her in this outcome as well. This interaction is more understandable I think, she took a risk on the player's character that is a big leap outside her comfort zone and she gets crushed. But once again I think that throwing away the entire friendship with no tolerance for what the player character's feelings are is an indicator of her emotional maturity. This second example doesn't irritate me as much as the first one because it's a very real situation many people encounter in their lives, but it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. In an earlier event you encounter Penny trying to help George with his mail, pushing his wheelchair aside without his permission and he voices his dislike of her actions. The player can intervene on either side of the argument, taking Penny's side or George's side. It also gives the player the option to pass by without interjecting in their argument. If you take George's side, you lose a fairly large chunk of your friendship points with her and gain none from George. If you take her side, George feels ashamed for his actions and apologizes. This particular interaction has always irritated me a bit because regardless of whether George needed help or not Penny shouldn't have pushed his wheelchair without permission. But the only positive outcome possible is to take Penny's side. If taking George's side resulted in increased friendship with him at the cost of friendship with Penny, it would be entirely understandable. But as it is there aren't any options in this event that I like to take because Penny learns nothing either way. Lastly, this is a bit nitpicky but Penny is the only NPC who hates Rabbit's Foot as a gift. I'd understand that if she were a vegetarian, or expressed an affinity for rabbits or something. But among her loved items are Sandfish and Tom Kha Soup, which contains shrimp. None of her dialogue (unless I've missed something) indicates why she is so opposed to rabbit's foot as a gift. A bit more explanation from her, even in passing, would help the player learn this information within the game instead of it seeming more like a "gotcha" to players that don't rely endlessly on the wiki during their play.
I genuinely do not understand what quality Robin has that makes people so obsessed with marrying her when Leah exists, like I do not register a difference between them
as a leah lover (i once wrote a full shakespearean sonnet about her), leah has a more artsy vibe whereas robin does more like manual labor. both of them are definitely strong, and leah straight up knocks the player out if you pick the creepy option in that one cutscene, but on a surface level, leah is more of an artistic soul and more, like, dreamy, and robin is just out there cutting wood. also some people just really like milfs
Leah feels like an outsider because she is. There's a sense of relatability knowing that your character and Leah share the same situation. She's like a blank slate that slowly takes shape as you interact with her more. Whereas Robin acts like an old friend to the player. She's attractive in the sense that she feels like home. You don't have to start from scratch to build her up because she's already been built. Literally and figuratively. That being said, I chose Penny. She was the closest contender to Robin. Another go-getter that can be strong when she wants to and cries when she needs to.
I'm on the "agree" side when it comes to children in stardew. Marrying your spouse is a big ordeal and deal, you have to upgrade your house, raise their affection, give them a bouquet, snag a mermaid pendant on a rainy day, and then you get not just a cinematic of your marriage, but your spouse moves in where you can interact with them, give them a kiss, they'll do chores occasionally. Meanwhile, your kid in stardew is less interactable than the stray cat you pick up on the first week in town? Really? Your OWN CHILD is prone to the same level of neglect you give your pet (they exist on your farm and walk around, and that's all they do, and it doesn't matter if you fill their water bowl or even pet them, though at least you can do that much)? You're telling me you can't make silly faces at them? Put them in your lap? Hold their hand as they stand up when they're still in the crawling phase? And as someone else pointed out, if your child ever aged past "toddler" you could have them interact with vincent or jas or whatever.
i feel like with the kids you shouldn’t HAVE to have the kids like it shouldn’t count towards perfection or grandpas shrine - but if you do have kids then there should be a slight benefit, like with the spouses they’ll water your plants or feed the animals. maybe the kids could find little artifacts or forage and bring it back to you or just help with the farm
Personally, game-wise, I feel like the children are basically glorified pets. The only thing you do, is interact with them to build friendship, like you do the cat or the dog. There's no other indicator of any kind. Now I'm not saying they should be farm labor when they get older or anything. But even just giving them a basic route to cover in the Valley would be nice. Or maybe they also join the other kids at school, SOMEthing. That's also kind of the same problem with the spouses (though a little better now). Once you've married them, they just kind of hang around your farm house every day, and don't really do anything anymore. They should still have a life, and still have their old routines, with MAYbe a slight change on one or two days in the week, where THEN they hang around the house. But Penny should still be teaching, Leah should still be arting, Sebastian should still be Coding... You know?
harvey has basically the same schedule married as he does single, he only works tuesdays and thursdays, and goes for a walk on monday and stays in the other days which was always his schedule. so i don't think schedules actually change.
That would've basically been my answer. If you're forcing yourself to play despite not having fun, it's the wrong way. I'd also argue that games with addictive and predatory elements have no right way to play.
On the question of if there's a right and a wrong way to play SV, I'd go with 'Agree', because I definitely found myself at times playing in a way where I got stuck in the routine of having to do everything optimally everyday. It got to the point I felt the entire in-game day went to doing the same stuff on the farm everyday. I ended up feeling stuck in a loop that drained out the fun in the experience, and I eventually stopped. Later I made a new save and discovered if I dropped the need to always do what I "should", and just followed my creative flow, I had a much better time. I've noticed other people also doing what I did, feeling that the routine just became to boring, and I would definitely say this is a 'wrong' way of playing the game, as you're actively not having fun.
I think making the kids have a purpose would be frustrating to people like me who don’t want to have them. Imagine if the game forced you to have children for perfection. Even something where they help around the farm would be a bit frustrating to me because it’s kind of like getting a free junimo hut or something like that. I can agree though that it would be fun if they could play with the other kids and not be confined within the house lol
I think by "purpose," it means to just actually have child and marriage mechanics. Not that they would be required for Perfection. As it is, they don't really do anything or grow up. You can't play with them. They never develop. I'm working on a mod right now that is meant to give marriage and children some mechanics that make them seem less like weird afterthoughts.
I think they don’t need a purpose game-wise, but it would be nice if they had more mechanics. Like if they could leave the house and interact with other villagers, that would be enough for me.
Even if they are required for perfection you don't need to get perfection to enjoy the game and also you can sacrifice them later for good luck(that is the most disturbing mechanic in a wholesome game I have ever seen)
That's a really good point. Also, turning them into child labour kind of sours the happy family aesthetic that appeals to players who do like the kids.
I think they should have character devolpment that has nothing to do with gaining anything. More you see them going to school, growing up, maybe have dialogue. Or they help on the farm, but they cost, so in the end, there is no benefit (just like kids in real life!). They could also have some form of roommate mechanic more than just krobus
I don't really understand the whole robin is good demetrius is bad thing? Cause like one of sebastians cutscenes is her coming into his room and telling him abigail wants to hang out when she knows he's busy. And when he fairly points out that hes working hard just like maru and doesnt have the time she doesnt answer just walks out without even trying to say sorry or understand :/ Plus the tomato thing. Demetrius is constantly talking about the techincallys and the science of everything. If you know the man enough to marry him you know to send him with a specific fruit listed.
But that scene with the bed Robin made and is so proud of? He has the audacity to say unprompted that the posts are a waste of material. SIR?? What a mood killer, that was so out of pocket of him.
@@Artbyhurricanyounotas someone with a spouse... Yeah she's definitely says some pretty similar shit about stuff I've done and vice versa. Some people really don't understand what relationships look like to the public compared to when you're in them
@@Matt_History but not all relationships look like theirs. They love each other and more power to them but yeah I did not like that. I think it would be cool if there was an option for you to play Stadew as your kid in a second generation, and the town itself changes accordingly. Like, you'd keep the farm (it might even get expanded a little?) but the people will have aged and the town would have changed. If you didn't marry Sebastian, he would move to the city. Clint would have greyer hair/be balding. Either Mayor Lewis would still be mayor or someone else-- maybe Kent?-- is. That or Kent gets a friendship arc with Linus and inherits the adventurer's guild. Maybe Pierre and Caroline split up after Abigail moves out, unless you get both of them to a high enough friendship level beforehand. Or Alex's sports career might end early via injury, giving him some parallel character growth in absence of his grandpa. Sam might also leave to serve in the army, or might end up becoming an independent music creator. Gus would have probably hired an apprentice/sous chef, maybe Vincent or Jas or even Shane. Maybe a new family moved in, or two or three. Qi would give a separate set of tasks to the next generation if you want to unlock him again. There would be a new "big bad" that the child/new player character would have to work against. Maybe Joja again, maybe, idk, another war between the magical creatures like OG Stardew hints at but this time it's sea creatures vs. humanity (since the game already has a fair amount of lore there) but humanity (mostly) doesn't even know it. I just think it would really add some depth to the game to see these people and their lives change, and living it as your child would be a cool way to naturally (and optionally) progress that way. Also unrelated but the fact that you got Argon of all people there to resort to violence at the end there quite frankly speaks for itself.
14:40 - Charlies answer made me realize that as an asian kid I already think like an asian mom and is thinking of bringing kids (although fictional) into the world only to make them a retirement plan and I am horrified at the thought 🙉
Weighing in on the children thing: There's a lot of people out there that don't want to have kids in real life. I think tying some achievement to having kids in Stardew would, intentionally or not, be judging them for that choice, and would make the game less inviting to them. But as a standalone option, I think it would be nice for Stardew Valley children to grow up and leave to live in the city, or possibly help work on the farm in exchange for allowance or something like that. The child mechanic is not fleshed out much and could definitely be expanded on. Ultimately, I'm happy that children aren't really important to the gameplay because I enjoy getting to choose how to run my save file, but that's just me.
I think the only way I'd be content with a "sequel" of sorts is if it's a game in the same universe, but isn't a direct sequel of Pelican Town. I would love to see a game with a fully fleshed out Zuzu City, and while there is a mod for it, I'd love to see what Concerned Ape would have in mind for it. Granted, this could be added in an expansion like Ginger Island, but having a stand-alone game with its own 30-something characters is something I'd love to see! As for Pelican Town itself, I'd rather see a prequel than a sequel.
What about a sequal where its bigger. Like they got the budget to expand. With more characters and features. And Vincent and Jas can finally stop going to school after 100 years.
I wouldn't say George was homophopic. He literally says he doesn't understand it but thats just because hes old fashioned doesn't mean he disagrees with it.
1. Disagree. Now while the concept of a Robin divorce seems interesting, especially considering that Demetrius treats Sebastian bad, you shouldn't be able to divorce different people as the player and alsp that would lead to some issue. Demetrius is a real NPC with hearts, heart events and stuff. His schedule is dependant on him living there, his 6 heart event is a conversation with Robin and a lot of his dialogues are about his family. He is also in Maru's 2 and 10 heart event and Maru and Sebastian mention him in their dialogues. A lot of the game would need to be rewritten and re coded, for this to make sense. The bigger issue is that I don't think Robin should be marriage-able. First off she is an important Shopkker that you need to progress in the game. Removing her from her work and making her stay at your house would have a massive impact in the game as your access to these upgrades would change. There is aslo the issue of wy would she charge you money for her work if you are married. Don't you share funds? Why not? Like a lot of weird issues. There is a reason you can't marry any shopkeer (besides Krobus, but 1. it isn't marriage, it is living together and 2.while I love him, he isn't that important for the game). It would also lead to a weird situation where you could be Sebastians Ex and dating Robin or vice-versa. Which is not something I don't want in my chill farming game. Also, what would happen to Sebastian? Would he move in with you? Would he live alone in the basement of a big house, only getting money from coding for everything? Would he be forced to move in with Demetrius? Making Robin marriable would cause a cascade of issues that would need a major rewritting of the character to solve, which I don't want. 2. I don't know. This brings up a very interesting question about what does advancing heartpoints mean. Because if you loose heartpoints with someone do they go back? Like george stops being homophobic at 10 hearts, but he goes back to it if you drop back down to 9. Does this mean he became homophobic again, he only acted non-homophobic because he liked you or the game didn't expect you to loose heartpoints? Like do Shane and Haley actually learn their behaviour was bad or do they only act nicer because they have grown to like you? This question depends on your intepretation of heart points. 3. Disagree. It is a perfectly fine and fun game on its own and with HC already in the works, I feel like I don't need more Stardew. 4. Hmm, i don't know. This depends on what "play" means. For example if all someone did in stardew valley is build swatzikas and then spam every online community with pictures of that I would consider that to be wrong. But, does that constitute "playing" the game or just using it as a medium for image creation? 5. Kinda Agree. Like the top comment said, they should do more than just walk around aimlessly. They should actually like do something. 6 Strongly Disagree. There are Demetrius, Lewis and Pierre.
Q1: IMO it doesn't fit the vibe of Stardew Valley, and honestly Robin and Demetrius seem like a happy couple. The only bad thing I see is how there's little interaction with Demetrius and Sebastian. Also Sebastian and Maru on that front. If this were to be a function, it should be applicable to literally all of the couples in the game. Lol Homewrecker speedrun when? ESPECIALLY Caroline and Pierre. Caroline is a tea girly. We can drink tea and screw capitalism lol. Abigail will hate me but idc. I don't want people splitting Jodi and Kent though... but that could just be a game over because Kent will just... destroy the farm. Guerilla war tactics and all. Oh and SOMEONE SAVE MARNIE from the GRASPS of the Purple shorts man!! In this instance I can see some of the flower dance couples being together like Penny & Sam and Haley & Alex. Seb and Abigail might be in friendzone limbo idk. And then we home wreck those because we want to date one of them lol. Q2: To an extent it does.... idk I've had some abrasive classmates and coworkers give me a cold shoulder but then warm up to me. idk if this is normal or not. I've done this once or twice and honestly, I really regret being a jerk to them at first, but the friends who I was initially abrasive to are literally the most forgiving people. Q3: No lol. I do think CA has grown as a creator but not that much that SV is invalid, and he needs to make a new one. If there was a sequel, it would probably be a spiritual successor. Like it takes place in the same world, but 500 years in the future or something. Q4: I don't think there's a wrong way to play SV, BUT sometimes... it feels like there is a right and wrong way just based on the community. Like people would say "your first stardrop should be the mines 100" "Demetrius should come around summer 1" "You should finish the community center in year 2". idk it's just weird when creators or other people in the community would say things like that when it's literally a game about going your own pace. And I think as we go towards a world of more open world games, there literally is no right way to play games. It's now up to the devs to put restrictions, but also try to create a world where even the most creative person will create the most outrageous thing within the limitations and it won't break the game. Q5: It does have a purpose. You can eliminate your children and get from combat level 0 to 10 in one day. IMO, I wish the kids did have some kind of personality and schedule and also just... look more like a combination of you and your spouse, especially if they're biological. Also more interactions with their grandparents and other family members. Like Shane would bring the children to play with Jas. Caroline and Jodi would probably love these kids. Pam gives my kid a pale ale so I can actually justify marrying Penny after she gives me the decals. Your spouse brings the kids to the beach when they go to Ginger Island. Harveylooks at them. I think it would also be cool if I could take them around. Just like one of those baby backpacks. Like, let's go to the VOLCANO together!!
on the sequel, i think any content would be nicer added to .. just stardew ?? id love more canon story or lore but a whole second game would feel a bit redundant ... and even then the whatever could be added as funny hint to stardew in future projects lol love the "wrong way to play" philosophy from everyone here, having seen and done a LOT of dumb things in different games lol i DO think the kids are cute ... but i'd love to see them be more interactive, in the same way i wish the spouses would do more of their normal stuff rather than Exist on the farm yknow fksjdks
how tf is divorce antithetical to stardew when there's literally cut scenes of townies confronting you for dating the ALL OF THEM AT ONCE and the option to turn your CHILD INTO A DOVE, DIVORCE YOUR SPOUSE, AND ERASE THEIR MEMORIES???? like bffr. if you like the happy-go-lucky version of gameplay of stardew, that's absolutely fine! but don't try and make it out to seem like concernedape didn't add in a bunch of purposefully chaotic options ON PURPOSE.
Regarding Robin and Demetrius, I also strongly disagree, but not because it goes against "what Stardew Valley is about" or that "it's not right to do" (After all, there's players who go out of their way to marry every bachelor/bachelorette then immediately dove their children and divorce them). It's because having the option to break up Robin and Demetrius means that it's open for other couples in Stardew Valley to also break up, and that will just lead to so many pathways and programming that will overcomplicate the game even further.

Hehehe thank you for pointing that out!

Also Argon walking straight up to Sal and attacking him with a sword lmao
We should talk about why sandy isnt a marriage character? Like she would be the perfect wife! Not only that but i think kids should look more like the npc's. Like if they has there hair color or an attribute of them, i think that would be cool. Also thank you salamence for your content I really like it!
On the topic of kids looking more like the npc's, there's a mod for that, aptly named "Babies Take After Spouse."
There was a poll to add a new marriage candidate, but Emily beat Sandy. My guess is because everyone hadn't met Sandy yet.
I'm certainly not a game dev so maybe I'm wrong but I feel like it wouldn't be hard to have it set up so your kids just randomly end up with either the player or spouse's eye/hair/skin color.
I'm guessing it's because he wants there to be equal bachelors and bachelorettes, and there aren't anymore options for male bachelors in the game.
@@kennymation5344 maybe they could always add a guy who is from Joja or a pirate guy from ginger island? Or a guy who got Ship wrecked and you have to help him

@@l0remipsum991oh lord
Divorce storylines where you can't romance either of them afterwards 👍
@@pelahnar4 that sounds really cool!

It's not the least bit plausible that the whole town doesn't already know about them, anyway.
Stardew Valley: kill babies in the Witch's hut = GOOD -- Cause a divorce between Robin & Demetrius BAD???? Also Leah BEST Redhead!!!
Yes I hate that no one in Sebastian's family ever comments on the marriage
@@NaturalAegyo Robin invites you to eat with them at the winter festival but not as like a Mother in law to there son/ daughter in law. So it doesn’t really count
This was a cool concept, I’d like to see more! Talking about children in Stardew though, I agree I don’t need my children to do farmwork or to have some practical purpose, but the fact is they don’t really give the feeling of having a child. You don’t get to see your child learn to speak, develop any kind of personality, or become an individual in any meaningful way. I think they need a rework not for purpose, but for a more interesting experience.
Babies shouldn't have a purpose cuz I shouldn't feel like I need to do that to experience the whole game
these videos are so well edited, bravo!! loving everything you’ve been putting out lately :D
That was some *powerful* arguments on the last question. Riveting content.
I think there should be a stardew valley prequel wher you play as grandpa in his time
“Do real kids have a purpose” I am DYING LOL
This was a real treat. More of these discussions please.
please make more of these!! I love watching them at night and relaxing
I didn't know you could put hats on kids...
So glad to see a part two of this! 👏🏼
We gotta get nino kito up in here, also i think that rather than a sequel, we could have a game about the other side in the war between where stardew valley is and where kent comes from
I really enjoyed this new format! So nice to hear peoples opinions and everyone getting together :)
"Do real kids have a purpose?" THIS MADE ME SCREAM LMAO
I strongly agree with the babys should having a purpose, even tho I dont know how i would have that implemented. They are at this moment just glorified furniture...
would _i_ personally like a stardew valley sequel? absolutely, i would love it tbh.
does stardew valley _need_ a sequel? i don't think so. i'm sure there are some good ideas that could come out of it, but i don't think that any of those ideas absolutely need a sequel
i think i'd be terrible on this series just because my personal biases would leak into everything lmao, everyone seems to be pretty good at not being that way though (besides the penny thing lol)
9:30. honestly i think, that there should be a sequel, just where there are new characters (like a female morris with different hair and traits or something like that, or more characters you can date) and maybe a new map
something that i've always wanted in the game in the bachelors and bachelorettes should be able to be married between themselves.
The game will expand more than other indie games have done with him listening to the supporters, the game will keep going so there is no need for a sequel and he's not the capitalist type otherwise the game would have expansion packs like the Sims franchise.
charlie drinking espresso to disagree with the penny one XD
I originally planned on marrying Hayley and when I saw the way she treats you I decided on someone else because it’s just not something I wanted
I think the only idea of a sequel that would make sense to me would be to make it a very different game that enhances on the lore, like making the tale of someone in zuzu city? Or talking about the wars that have happened. But to be fair, those could easily just be stories
Next time you could ask questions about ginger island
I love your channel! Thanks for all the wonderful stuff. ✨
pls make more!!
edit: could u have a question, it being “should every npc be marriageable?” besides the kids and the already married
💜 and thank you to everyone involved in making this!

I think games should have sequels rather than constant updates so that the developer doesn’t have to work for free.
As a parent, Charlie is right. Children do not have a purpose 😂😂😂
why...do we hate penny?
I like having a child in stardew valley so i can sleep on ginger island for an entire year and tell eevryone i abandoned my wife and child

@@kcspace64The kids do eventually leave the house during some events, If you go find your spouse the child can be seen next to him/her.
@@kcspace64 your children go to the festivals once they are both children
I think after you have children your stamina should be randomized everyday.
I LOVE IDEA WE NEED CONCERNED APE TO ADD IT
That sounds absolutely awful, please do it tho!

looks like didn't you play stardew valley expanded
@iloveyou5054 I was about to say.... when I heard Victor asks if he can call you Mom/Dad I nearly choked
I mean, Demetrius puts the bar in hell when it comes to being a stepdad to Sebastian, so. Even if I was close in age to him (which I don't feel I am even if the game does allow me to marry him), I think he'd still prefer me tbh
Can't we just...Dove Sebastien and Maru? They would technically be our kids now, right?
@@drendraleigh4722I think that’s just straight up murder
I like how with the example dialogue for Shane and Haliey insulting you, they were both at 10 hearts.
That's pretty much what I would imagine a sequel to be, not the same place, just similar mechanics
Perhaps a prequel management type game (think 'Papers Please' or more accurately the recent 'Apature Desk Job' as it would involve story events) In which you play as the SV mc in the months before opening the envelope, working in Joja, this could reinforce the distaste most SV players have towards Joja and show the reason the MC opened that envelope in the first place.
i need the sequel to be in the same place cause, i want more Jas and Vincent cutscenes
they deserve more character progression
and if growing up and becoming datable is the only way they can get that
then we need a second game
It may start off on a bit of a downer but I always thought a game taking place in the wartorn Gotoro Empire would be intersting. The war had just ended with the Gotoro's defeat and you help rebuild your farm and town from the ashes. Could have a lot of intersting possibiilites. That's being said I'm exited for Haunted Chocolatier.
A joja worker in Zuzu city, who can choose between a career ladder/family/and revolution 😂😂😂
I think it would be really cool if there was a prequel. You play as the grandpa when he was younger. You can see all of the same characters but everyone is younger.
It could also finally tell the story of the wizard and Caroline
It would have to be a different genre honestly. Playing the same game over would be kinda bad
Exactly what I was thinking. And maybe you choose to help Pierre or Morty open their stores for the first time
@@Felix-on9dr I completely disagree. I have already the played literally the same game over multiple times (I think I'm at over a dozen playthroughs by now). I would happily play pretty much the exact same game just with different/younger characters and new lore.
let's meet our beloved mona
Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't see why people think Robin and Demetrius aren't a good match. They seem like a happy couple, in their schedules they spend lots of time together watching the trees. The _only_ thing that points to anything else is their little argument/misunderstanding, which every single married couple has...
their tomato argument can even end in Demetrius apologizing and trying to do better!!
They have countless arguments, not just one, and Demetrius is a terrible father to both of his kids, Sebastian especially.
@@infinitesimalphilip1470 not that I don’t agree(because idk the information) but can you give some examples?
When I created my very first Stardew Valley save file all those years ago and rode into the town for the first time, I was greeted by Lewis and Robin, and IMMEDIATELY I though: "Holy hell, this chick is hot. And she's got a sense of humor too. I'm definitely romancing her."
...Yyyeah.
Imo, that's a good enough reason to split 'em up. I.e., both my lingering, ages old spite and the idea that no one should experience that kind of disappointment in SDV.
@@infinitesimalphilip1470They literally have one argument ever in the entire game
YES, YOU ARE SO CORRECT
I agree with the general answers of; "I can forgive them and understand to a degree but this does not make it okay"
i've been saying this the whole time, at least shane has an excuse to act how he does, and he just wants to be left alone and if being standoffish pushes people away he's willing to do it to protect himself, while haley is just out on the attack, getting personal with her insults for no reason at all beyond being spoiled
also shane is the only one to come out and apologize, haley changes, sure, and i like her for it, but she never specifically apologizes for the things she said to you, at least not that i can remember
I forgive Shane because he’s pushing you away cuz of his mental health.
I forgive Haley cuz I enjoy her insulting my crops. 😩
I mean as long as it makes ConcernedApe happy I think that's what really matters
This would be my answer. You can tell he loved SV. I want him to do what makes him happy.
The baby part, remember the combat level thing? Yeah they have a purpose
Edit: YOOO the Penny part😂😂😂
Right? They grow up to be perfectly good Pidgeons, i don't get why people say they stay "stuck in child form"
Yeah, you just have evolve your children by exposing them to a prismatic shard. Afterwards, they’ll disappear for a bit, but they’ll give you some combat exp back.
I NEED a full, in depth video on why you hate Penny so much. WHAT DID SHE DO TO YOU!!!!
(Also i'd love to see more of this)
she was ableist to george and makes george apologize which he didnt have to also in one of her cutscenes if you say that you dont want to have children or dont like children you loose a horrendous amount of friendship points which is so weird she forces you to like children basically
@@backgroundnpc9631 well yeah but that still doesnt make up for her ableist behavior
@@pushra9901she's clearly a traditional wife who loves kids 😂 and it's a turn off if you hate kids. It's called a preference
I genuinely do not understand what quality Robin has that makes people so obsessed with marrying her when Leah exists, like I do not register a difference between them
I'm guessing it's because Robin is the very 1st character we meet and people assume she was romanceable
It's probably the fact it's something people can't have so they want it. Mine was Jodi I thought she was a single mother 😂
as a leah lover (i once wrote a full shakespearean sonnet about her), leah has a more artsy vibe whereas robin does more like manual labor. both of them are definitely strong, and leah straight up knocks the player out if you pick the creepy option in that one cutscene, but on a surface level, leah is more of an artistic soul and more, like, dreamy, and robin is just out there cutting wood. also some people just really like milfs
one word: milfs
Leah feels like an outsider because she is. There's a sense of relatability knowing that your character and Leah share the same situation. She's like a blank slate that slowly takes shape as you interact with her more.
Whereas Robin acts like an old friend to the player. She's attractive in the sense that she feels like home. You don't have to start from scratch to build her up because she's already been built. Literally and figuratively.
That being said, I chose Penny. She was the closest contender to Robin. Another go-getter that can be strong when she wants to and cries when she needs to.
To all the people in this video, blink twice if Rob is holding you captive for the Penny question.

And as someone else pointed out, if your child ever aged past "toddler" you could have them interact with vincent or jas or whatever.
i feel like with the kids you shouldn’t HAVE to have the kids like it shouldn’t count towards perfection or grandpas shrine - but if you do have kids then there should be a slight benefit, like with the spouses they’ll water your plants or feed the animals. maybe the kids could find little artifacts or forage and bring it back to you or just help with the farm
kids don't count
You know?
harvey has basically the same schedule married as he does single,
he only works tuesdays and thursdays, and goes for a walk on monday
and stays in the other days which was always his schedule.
so i don't think schedules actually change.
“Do real kids have a purpose” had my dying 💀
The only wrong way to play stardew is in a way your not having fun, sometimes the right way to play stardew is by taking a break and going outside.
And when he fairly points out that hes working hard just like maru and doesnt have the time she doesnt answer just walks out without even trying to say sorry or understand :/
Plus the tomato thing.

@@vonfaustien3957 what if they hate farming?
As someone who lived on a farm, us kids had a purpose...slave labor.
Weighing in on the children thing:
There's a lot of people out there that don't want to have kids in real life.
Like, let's go to the VOLCANO together!!
on the sequel, i think any content would be nicer added to .. just stardew ?? id love more canon story or lore but a whole second game would feel a bit redundant ... and even then the whatever could be added as funny hint to stardew in future projects lol
love the "wrong way to play" philosophy from everyone here, having seen and done a LOT of dumb things in different games lol
i DO think the kids are cute ... but i'd love to see them be more interactive, in the same way i wish the spouses would do more of their normal stuff rather than Exist on the farm yknow fksjdks
how tf is divorce antithetical to stardew when there's literally cut scenes of townies confronting you for dating the ALL OF THEM AT ONCE and the option to turn your CHILD INTO A DOVE, DIVORCE YOUR SPOUSE, AND ERASE THEIR MEMORIES???? like bffr. if you like the happy-go-lucky version of gameplay of stardew, that's absolutely fine! but don't try and make it out to seem like concernedape didn't add in a bunch of purposefully chaotic options ON PURPOSE.
Shane just tells you to bugger off. Haley's attacks get personal. 😅
