The price of a barrel has to be above $62 a barrel for the extraction to be profitable in the US. US refineries can't work with the sweet crude produced in the US, and so, this crude has to be exported to be refined. The US has to import heavy crude to be transformed at its refineries. So if the US increases its production, that will be good for the rest of the world because the price of sweet crude will fall. But, if other countries don't produce more heavy crude, the price of crude for consumption in the US will not fall....

The US is not self-sufficient and therefore has a trade deficit of 20%. When he imposes tariffs, the products in the US will become more expensive and the individual American will therefore have to buy less because everything will become more expensive.
When the Americans then have to buy less, less will be sold and production therefore goes down, which affects their own economy and jobs.

It's about jobs. The EU has millions of people in the ICE industry, not just in factories, but everywhere, logistics, small suppliers, big small independent garages, etc. They postponed the problem until it became radical. We live in a big complex democracy, things move slowly. China is not, or the opposite, remember, Chinese people have special living status inside China, the discrimination is out of any possible democratic mind, we have free movement, and Trump with his America First means loving dictatorships, because one man decides for all, while in the EU nothing is done without the total, all countries, approval, even those who are now betraying the EU. Tariff works because if high tariff imposed then due to high-cost people in US will not buy outside product and US companies will make the product bettering US economy and if other countries removes tariff on US products to avoid tariff on their products, then again US economy benefits by selling their products so TARIFF WORKS and USA uses products more than any other nations. Tariffs hurt everyone, not just the consumer. Since you seem to not live in the US around 75% of all products in the US are made outside the country. So everything is unaffordable. You have overpriced vehicles and a vehicle shortage at that point. You have an energy shortage especially with oil. Then you have a shortage on nuclear. Thankfully this is avoidable as reactors don't need to be filled often. So no the tariffs will only bacckfire.
