Lots of dogs get really horrible ear infections that make them sick and hurts their quality of live. My uncle had a boxer named Milo and he had a lot of ear infections and he kept getting really sick and so they cropped his ears (all before I was born) and I always knew him to be the sweetest most trusting and happy dog ever

Its supposed to be done at a young age before a lot of heavy cartilage grows in. I dont like cropping and tail docking but its required in some breed standards for show and things that that. I only agree with it when its a dog with a job that requires it. For example a livestock guardian dog could have its ears cropped so its less likely they are grabbed in a fight with wild animals. Its mainly for fighting like dog fighting or hunting. Its not all bad things. If a dog gets grabbed by the ear say from a coyote or wolf it could allow another coyote or wolf to go for its neck. Its reduces the risk of injury. Some say it reduces ear infections but thats a myth. Theres multiple types of crops i think the one that is actually most useful for working dogs is called a battle crop its the shortest then theres short crop long/tall crop and show crop.

Eat cropping for aesthetic reasons should be illegal, but there are practical reasons, too. A lot of livestock guardian dogs get their ears cropped, to prevent potential predators from being able to grab them by the ears.

@@Poopick true but the surgery is relatively painless due to the fact they use anesthetiand before the sugery starts and the ears heal after 2-3 days so it doesn't really hurt the dog and it will mostlikely forget about it when its an adult the time when ear croping is actually cruel is when they use scissors and at home then its cruel
