Bravo to Anika for putting herself in a vulnerable position. That’s what a person does who truly serves music, instead of asking music to serve the ego.
Coming here just after watching some concert videos with Anika Nilles playing with Jeff Beck ... I think it's good to see such great musicians also have to practice basic things over and over again!
Thank you so much for posting this! I have been trying to get this rudiment down for a long time now and always have a lot of trouble with it. I think it is because of how I was thinking about it, as you explained in the beginning about the order of the flams in the rhythym and the palcement within the measure in a musical context. I also never realized the paradidddle-diddle sticking, which is my favorite rudiment, I think. I use it a lot. This definitely inspired me to give it another shot!!! Thank you Claus and Anika!!!
Cool video. Former DCI snare drummer here (in the United States). I've played quite a few "Patty's" in my time, as we often call them. But seriously, even as a kid, we were going, "what's with the messed up naming of Pataflafla's". This *totally* makes sense!!!
I'm more impressed with the precision in Claus' flat flams than with any fast chops I've seen lately... Absolutely mental. Time to get back on the practice pad!
Nice! I have Anika pad book. What do you recommend as the best way to count the 16th note triplets where they’re mixed in here and there with 8th note triplets like on page 27?? Love the book so far btw.
think just counting 8th trips as 123456 123456 might be best. Then when encounter 16th trips can just “N”s in between? I’ve counted as 1ed 2ed 3ed 4ed but now I’m not sure where to count when 16th trips come into play on page 27. Where heather first way I mentioned I can just put the “N”s between the numbers,
Rests and unison SO deceptively challenging. When I think I've got it down, I record and listen back at half speed and unison turns back into flams lol - then back to the woodshed we go :)
Drummers rudiments are more important than most musicians may realize … I just leave the expert drumming to the experts …. I’ll just focus on my guitar & keyboards playing … and enjoy good drummers to do what they do so well 🙏🏾🤗🙏🏾
……four note phrase two flams (alternating)….in this case there is a rest on the first beat…followed by 2 + 2flams(alt) -challenging for so few notes but with practice.
It starts with with 16th note rest (because of the name being pataflafla and not flapatafla) then the sticking is either L R Flam (rL) Flam (lR) or R L Flam (lR) Flam (rL) … so its 2 single strokes and 2 flams (!) Not always playing the flam with the same hand but alternating
hm you seem to be very wokee. You would have to witness it. Have you ever considered that too much wokeness might drive-away the societys interest in beeing respectful and tolerant into all directions?

She was Jeff Becks Drummer and adapted so good to His Music, Vinnie C & Her were so suited for Him, She must be devastated.
thank you for the great tutorial
Awesome job, I like how Todd Sucherman breaks it down in a musical way.
This is wicked, I need another lifetime 🙏

I use „1-trip-let-&-trip-let“ to count 1/16th triplets and when I get fast I drop the „triplet“ word… hope 5hat helps 😊

I don't play drums, I play guitar ... but I find this fascinating.
she is amazing

schöne Hintergrundinformationen zum Background der Figuren.
Very interesting 👌

SUPER
Anika having a hard time "flattening" the flams is good to remember us (humans) that amazing drummers like her have also to practice :)
Muito bom
…..how many flams? I hear one on the last ? Please help…..thanks….

Großartig
Ohhhh, I am looking and hearing now 2 FLAMS but one is louder than the other….
Yes parradidle
I had a pataflafla, once. Cost me $20.00 extra and I ended up having to get a Penicillin 💉 shot. 😬🥴
Pata Fla fla sounds racist! Some research on this is demanded! We'll see!
