I’m not especially girly by choice, but when people in the service industry say something like “what can I get you darling?” Or “here you go miss!” It just melts my heart 🥰
As someone who calls strangers "sweetheart" and sometimes "sweetie", I wonder if the people I talk to are having similar thoughts. Like, I'm not trying to fuck you, I'm just trying to be a cool person who's nice!
it's real good to have this episodes/"highlights" up here. It really shows how our favourite boys have grown as people! Everyone changes, and everyone grows, and it's especially good if it's people with an audience like these guys!
The boys are wrong on this one; if a friend who actually cares about you calls you something that makes you uncomfortable say something. It can be an awkward conversation and you have to be diplomatic but it can result in both a stronger friendship and you not being skeeved out six times a day
I think they're just suggesting a different way of looking at it. The person was assuming it was flirtatious. Maybe if they think of it as just a friendly gesture it won't make them uncomfortable anymore. Obviously if it still does then they should say something.
Its also important to mention that he himself doenst mind, but he is afraid that someone else will. They are saying that its fine for someone else to call you the same thing that your so happens to call you. if he had said he minded their take would have been different.
This. I was going to comment this exact thing. Kinda odd that it's pretty much universally seen as bad if a guy does it to a girl, but if a girl does it to someone or someone does it to a guy it isn't seen as that big a deal :/
I just started listening to mbmbam from the beginning and i love them I don't see the problem people seem to have with this clip and generally their early episodes. Could someone explain for me?
an ever-growing number of people (specifically people who have an accent similar to the one they use in this goof) have been murdered by police because they were speeding, because they didn't use their turn signal, because they reached into their glovebox for their insurance papers too quickly, etc. the second half of this goof is a dark parody of their dying moments. is the bit funny? a little. is it incredibly morbid and dark? hell yeah. most people don't enjoy laughing at jokes that are about innocent people being murdered.
Well, first this was back in 2010. Second, their accents just sounded like inconsistent 'southern belle' voices, not anything else. Like, I completely understand the point you are making but there was definitely no intent to belittle the plights of poc's interactions with cops.
@@warren_waters yeah exactly To add onto biggestfanever1's comment I agree that I don't think they were directly intending to make police-caused deaths of poc into a joke, I believe this is just a situation where the joke itself is bad even though the intent behind it is innocent goofs (even if morbid) But it is alright to point out that the joke is bad. We just have to make sure not to jump to conclusions. I.e. we shouldn't think like 'they made a joke that sounded racist > They are bad people' cause thats Very black and white. We have more context than that to see who they are as people, yknow? So I agree I don't think there was ill intent/I don't think they thought about it that hard. Whipped is more extreme then just respecting your partners wishes and doing things that make them happy. Whipped is when you do everything your partner wants without regard for your own happiness to the point where the relationship is unbalanced and unhealthy.
One more shitty take, from me: I felt it was clear that they were acting as if they personally were the people in the interaction with the police, exaggerating their own southern accents for the bit. Not all black americans have a southern accent, y'all. And I felt that the point of going There with it was using humour to draw attention to the ridiculousness and shittiness of overreaction by the police - in the style of Mel Brooks constantly making fun of Nazi's in his comedy - hus philosophy was that if we make the oppressors a punchline, they lose some of their power as a serious subject. There's also a tone in this bit of the idea that 50 year old white man with power is usually the one down-talking (to women, etc.) with pet names, so flipping the script to talk down to that party in that manner is a comic subversion of power dynamics which I really appriciate. I don't feel there's anything in this bit that they should have done differently at the time it was made. Now, yes probably - but to shy away from serious subjects such as police brutality in comedy feeds into fear. Satire is a great way to collectively reduce the power of an oppressor.
Jokes can still be harmful by normalizing things like that. Also, there's a million other possible things to be funny about without using that kind of discourse, which the brothers have proven over the years as they've grown and stopped talking like that while remaining hilarious.
