Mmm I do all of this including using a index.html with very basic hello world text and it after cloudflare saying "all set" it doesn't redirect to anything :p

Make sure the index.html is not in a sub directory. From your pages project select “view details”. This will show what got uploaded. Should work. Re-upload.
