    I surf RUclips a lot....I have never seen so many working VCR's in one place ever lol. That not including the other, older stuff I spotted in the other room. I still keep a VHS player on hand juuuuuust in case.

    good to see a solid take and vague care done, never see it from any transfer houses or even single people who pretend to care. worrying when even a decade ago all the equipment was dying and capacitors have only gotten worse, heads worn, tapes disintergrating. it's worrying tons honestly. microMV? dvcpro? dvcam? fullsize DV? screwed. jvc HDV? fucked. 8mm tape of any kind? screwed. betacam and it's derivatives? fucked. umatic? obscure ancient formats? sony portapak? even more fucked. in 5-15 years houses will be gone because the equipments all dead, the people with knowledge or repair skills have died or retired?? its worrying to say the least.

      Well put! I think you just accidentally created a video transfer house poem my friend! 😂 It’s all true! Not to mention film transfer equipment repair guys. My super 8 sound units, one guy repairs them and he’s not in the best health.

    I had a bunch of tapes that weren’t playing too well. I put them all aside until recently, as I’ve set up another vcr. Half of these tapes are now working on this different player.

    Actually it's the tape which was misaligned with the rotating heads. The rotating heads cant be adjusted but the tape guides can be. It's the tape guides we need to adjust. It can all be adjusted on just one VCR. Trying the tape on multiple VCRs hoping one will be aligned can work sometimes but how many VCR's will you need to cater for every possible misalignment?

    I'm using an adaptor like yours but I'm only getting audio from the tapes. I know the big possibility is that someone recorded with the lens cover on, but is there another possible issue I can do something about?

    • @gotmemories
      @gotmemories  8 месяцев назад +1

      Clean the heads, adjust path alignment. Could be a number of things. You need 3-5 players as back up bc they are all failing and have issues.

    one thing i realized when doing calibration to the ElGato Video Capture that you also use is that the brigthness and contrast are way off, i used a DVD for TV calibration, and after i did it got this numbers: Brigthness: 30, Contrast: -11, Saturation and Tint leave it at default value. Then you will get a perfect video!!!

    • @gotmemories

      All depends on the content, camera, quality of tape, quality of care. Each tape differs which is why default works for default population. Everything revolves around operable players, clean heads etc.

    Hello, I love your videos and I've dabbled with video here and there over the years just as a hobby for fun. I've transfered many of my own tapes to dvd. But now I see the big thing is mp4...and now my cousin wants me to put some of her tapes on a flash drive, she simply can't afford even the shit boxes. Any chance you could give me pointers on a few settings? I import the videos with mpeg2 but have always burned discs. Ive done some samle videos to mp4 but theres alot of choices to export to, such as frame size and bit rates. 352x288 and 640x480 etc. and 2000 or 4000 kbit/s. seems like some of these files are huge, I thought mp4 was suppose to shrink them, I dont know. Thanks

      Glad you enjoy the videos! MP4 is best, 2500kpbs is 👌 about 800mb per hr. All the best on your transfers!

    Great Video! I am in the process of transferring VHS C tapes to Mp4. I notice an oversaturated colour band at the top 10 percent of the image it is outputting but not for the whole tape. only portions. I guessed tape degradation but im no expert by any means. My main concern is the video quality I am able to play back to myself is leagues better that what gets exported into the final Mp4 file. Why is that? (Using OBS, any other better recommendations?)
    very informative video. If I didn't just blow the bank on a PC id be sending these tapes straight to you.

      I’d try using another vcr. Always good to have multiple, the more expensive and prosumer the better. Buy from resellers that have refurbished them. Good ones cost $400-$2000

    • @gotmemories
      @gotmemories  Год назад

      All depends. Can’t diagnose unless I have the tapes. Culprits could be recorded that way, the player, the cables, the connections within the player. All very common & takes time and expertise to diagnose, unless it was recorded that way.
