Ex Wives | Six Animatic

- SO, guess who saw Six the Musical live a few weeks back? That's right, it's me!! And in honor of such, I thought why not do a longer animatic once again and knock this first song out of the way. Whether this develops into a full fledged series or a one-off remains to be seen, but don't get your hopes up because I have no idea if I'll do the other songs.
I really wanted to ground this animatic in a setting of any kind, as I've noticed a tendancy for many of my older animatics to just be sort of "floating in space". This is a tricky thing with Six, as it's very straightforward... it's a concert, on a very small stage. So I brushed off the script I had for a Six (song) animatic a while back, utilizing the queens as "ghosts come back to life for a single night", thus inspiring the museum setting and ghostly audience that appears throughout this video.
This is probably my last video of the year, so I hoped I could leave it off with a bang while returning to my roots - A far too long musical animatic that absolutely killed my hand to draw. Trust me, if I ever make an animatic this long again, it WILL be for Vivit.

Gah!! Thank you so much for your comment :') It's incredible anyone even remembers my super old Six animatics, and I'm glad my improvement has shown well. AND YES!! The gallery/museum setting was one of my favorite parts of making this, and I'm glad that resonated so well

i soooo regret missing the premiere of this animatic. but i’m here now, and i watched it and, OMG
okay so the walking out of the paintings thing. literally illustrates the premise of the show so perfectly-they’re no longer just a line in a rhyme, a quick name in a history book, a nobody’s face in a painting-they’re taking back their lives and telling their story, stepping out of the painting and showing you what went down.
the katherine howard part…no, mustn’t mention it, it got me way too sad.
the animatic was simple but still totally fun and really expresses the feeling of the show i think and it was such a smart idea to use the broadway recording, NO ONE has yet i think which is a crime.
anyway. LOVE this animatic. keep up the good work 🎉
ALMOST FORGOT TO MENTION-henry’s vandalized (??? would that word work??? basically they wrote on it in the animatic) painting was VERY funny
!!! You captured the intention behind the use of the paintings perfectly, especially in the original utilization I had planned for a Six (song) animatic. And I really did want to add a bit more tragedy to each queen's parts, but with time constraints in mind, Howard's was the only one that really made the cut. Thankfully I have the full songs for added angst fuel (kidding, kidding... unless).
Also, yeah, vandalization sounds about right - In a case where I do make more six animatics, I want to actually utilize him visually instead of shying away, so I thought that adding a small detail like that would help set the tone to show while he is a part of the queens stories, he still doesn't deserve the dignity of portraits and prestige that we've afforded him (and other men like him, which now that I'm talking about this actually plays into the gendered themes of Vivit - BUT THIS ISN'T ABOUT THAT).
