  • Finally made it to 122's QTH and installed the antenna for the video. SWR is fine from around 25.200 and ends at 28.400 with the CEPT Band 26965-27405 totally flat, does not move at all. 3 small radials and the antenna was assembled to the black marks that come on the metal and away she goes. First two qso's with my DX5000 and 40w was 158ET and 347AT Klein Curacao so thats excellent enough. ((No HF 11m radios now, only mono band Maas or KPO ) An antenna that is perfect for shooting skip either in the summer or from the islands and rated at 1kw. In Germany have tested the antenna with 1kw and was fine on SSB. Although not used for long times with PTT pressed. Made in Birmingham and now sold world wide. This video is made for all CB Friends and Mihai and his team at Radiocommunicare so they can see the antenna in its glory on a sunny day although cold. So thats it, the Venom 5/8 3 radials and build with the black marks and the SWR is something almost spot on

@26CT510 Hi Mike yes agree with you. Some of these have tested had less bandwidth than this one, but now that seems not an issue as covers a wide area of the band

Interesting vid Simon..the ground planes remind me of my old 5/8 Hygain silver rod.
    Cheers

@andytipperdriver The antenna works well, simply set to the black marks and in the sky. Thats all we did here and before we took it down we made 3 contacts in total with the DX 5000 and 40w. Curacao, Trinidad and Mexico ( 347AT/SA099, 158ET070 and 10RC/DX ) And this on a band that was not really the best. For the price of the antenna you cannot fault it

yet you should not have any part of the mast over the ground plane radials. probably fixed by now.

just recieved new venom antenna..strange problem! a standard pl 259 connector is not able to mate uo to the antenna...the recieving orafice is just to narrow to accept the connection...any one else have this problem? im afraid to have to start fileing down the end of the pl 259.. and shouldnt have to try poking a screw driver to open it up??

Is it possible that someone can forward me the measurements of where these black marks should be please? I have one of these aerials, dismantled it so we could move home and now ive come to erect it again, the black marks are unrecognisable and its not really obvious by dirt etc where each section was. :/ If someone could possibly show me where I could get these measurements for each individual section, id be most grateful :)
