@@cerachaos definitely, and as I used to be a nanny, I know and understand how busy babies/toddlers and cats are - there is no way that baby would not crawl right into the bought litter box. her hands and arms could fit right in and grab the litter. What a nightmare!!

rn1005018 I see your point. Definitely not a side table because you cannot put glasses and remotes where your cat is likely to knock stuff off. @@rtd1791 if you sift cat litter daily per cat (so two cats twice daily exc) at minimum cat smell is virtually gone :) it comes down to the cleanliness of the people, not the cat.
The DIY for sure... I like the outer room so that cat can clean its paws and it makes it harder for a toddler to get into it. Plus you could easily add a child-proof lock to the cabinet too.
Agreed. So much functionality in the diy. And I can't stand the idea of the cat jumping straight out of the litter box onto the floor. I love the litter catching feature of the diy.
DIY! I think she will regret not going with the DIY. As a cat owna and a parent the DIY is a better option. The child will find it more of a challenge to get to the litterbox and the extra litter will be corralled in the first area.
Love the DIY ❤ I work with kids and cats and I don't get how a small child "won't get to the cat litter" in the Buy? It's the perfect high to get into. And I would never have a litterbox as a sidetable, imagine the smell and all the sand outside the opening?? The DIY is the perfect solution for all of those problems, love it 😊
You work with cats and have a problem with stinky litterboxes? That just means you're doing it wrong. Use quality litter, clean regularly and most importantly feed your cats quality food.

Wow I was really surprised she picked the buy. To me, the DIY was best without question! It was way more functional, and actually fitted the brief much better, since it would be much harder for the toddler to get their hands into the litter since it's in the farther "room". The buy litter box a kid could super easily get their hands in there and pull out litter.

I did like the cactus bed, but the idea of having the litter box right by my sofa turns me off. Thanks for a fun episode!

Loved both and DIY was super creative but I would never put food/treats so close to the litter. Cats don't like that (I also wouldn't eat in the bathroom haha). Great work besides that.
And I also always wonder if other people's cats never pee over the edge... mine do sometimes because they don't squat enough so good bye interior of the enclosure if it's not plastic.
Definitely DIY. 1) it’s a completely customizable design 2) it’s cheaper 3) it will be easier to clean 4) it will catch litter better because of the ante chamber. Opening doors outward is just easier than clearing the top and then opening the lid. Plus I know with the buy option that cat litter is coming out of that thing. There will be bits of litter all around it. Plus the DIY option had space for storing cleaning supplies. Both options needed flaps to help contain the smell. No matter how vigilant you are about scooping your litter, right after a cat goes there’s a bit of smell that you don’t want traveling around your lounge space. Also a flap will make it harder for the baby to get into the litter. I’ve known a few toddlers that ate cat 💩. Super gross. But the wee ones are ingenious when they want to sample 💩. The DIY option was also easier to baby proof both the cabinet doors and the flaps. The lazy cat factor should have been noted in the brief and could have been addressed with a small step, which Dani could have made no problem. Truthfully I also thought the buy option was ugly as sin, but I loathe Mid Century Modern. Dani’s pillow was more attractive than either buy option and again completely customizable.
I have two little princesses and would definitely choose the DIY every single time, especially with babies running around. A latch can easily be attached to prevent older toddlers and kids from getting into the hutch and the idea of the carpet to catch stray litter is so smart! I want it! Lol
Also, my girls are on the fluffier side (around 14 pounds each) and they climb into the top of my closet to nap, so they could definitely manage a short ~3 feet jump
Oh the DIY was the true winner here. The litter on the floor when the cat comes out is going to be a huge problem when that baby starts crawling. The functionality is great and it looks great too.
That DIY is AMAZING and definitely more baby proof. That baby is going to stick her hands into the side table one immediately. The litter in the DIY being in the second area makes it so much safer. I wish I had that DIY (I know I know.)
Both were super great! I would have done DIY and put litter box in first cabinet and then litter locker + litter in the second cubby (and asked for the cactus bed

Loved both ideas, even the buy one is sort of DIYable, so that's cool. Looks wise I would probably go with the buy option, BUT, as a mother to 2 cats and a 2yo human, I know the DIY option is more functional and kids proof for the long run, cause we do have a closed litter box and my son still manage to get there, so I love the fact that if you put some kind of lock on the doors of the DIY option your baby can't really get to the litter and your cat can have privacy. So for me the winner is definitely the DIY option!! **Sorry about my English 😅
I’ve been looking after an abandoned kitty who may just end up staying with me...if she stays with me, that upcycled cat hotel is AMAZING!! I will totally adapt it for the bus when the time comes to set up🥰
OMG, I want Dani’s DIY! I would totally buy that from you. My older cat would love it, and it’s absolutely beautiful. Nice job! Love this show thank you both!
I much prefer the DIY, since it also gives the cat a little "chill out" area out of reach of a toddler. I would have made it a bit differently though, like opening it from the top to fit the narrow space better and maybe adding a "vent" at the back so the cat isn't super hot in there.
The legs on the DIY were SO AMAZING!!!!!! Dani kills it every time... I think Alexandra had this one in the bag because she just knew cats and how they operate better.
Wow I was sure she would go for the DIY! That was AWESOME! The buy was pretty too & would have been a good choice for a very small space but I feel like she had plenty of room for the bigger one & that one did a lot more. If the cat won't jump that high just put it next to something lower so it can go jump up on that & then onto the top of the box. I wish I had something like the DIY when I had an indoor cat, no matter what I did the litter box was an eyesore & smelled up the space it was in.
Not really a cat expert so got good ideas from the comments. Both matched the home. But unsure if cactus matched home or would look like just another baby toy. Loved all the thought that went into diy like even bolts to wall and especially with lock seems more childproof and private maybe bit less smelly. Wonder if removing legs or adding some kind of little ledge would make it right height for cat? Was thinking could double as nice human seating but then realized too smelly for that or to be side table and food wouldn't work well in it. Maybe diy's first room could be for bed, food somewhere else, and top used for safe, nonbreakable plants or coffee table books or for litter bags concealed in a great decorative lidded bin or something? Better in a less-used room cause of smell.
The DIY was my choice and safest for a child because an opening will NOT stop a child from putting their hand in there so the DIY had that great idea of introducing the opening part for food and not cat litter...great thinking!! Something similar to buy is very expensive. Love the cushion she made too!!
I'm honestly stunned with the ladies choice I thought for sure she would pick the DIY. I guarantee that the baby is going to get into that litter box. Whether its reaching her hand in or trying to get all the way in... I think she will regret not getting the DIY which was a bit big for the space but so much nicer for both the cat, the smell, and the baby. I also liked the aesthetic better. It's not Alexandra's fault but I feel like there are some things that you cant customize like this DIY through buying
Loved the DIY. My litter box is by the front door, my house is pretty small so that's the best option. The DIY would be perfect. We'd have a spot to sit and put shoes on and my cats would love having privacy.
Team DIY was the best and the cost was reasonable too. You basically got two rooms and cats love climbing even the lazy ones. That girl just doesn't know it could have been Mac special place away from the baby.
I would 100% go with the DIY, I’d make a few changes though, I would leave one side without the door (since I don’t have children) and add a small cabinet (for trash bags, a brush, etc) and maybe even build a cat tree on top of it lmao
I thought she didn't want the baby getting access to the litter box?? Duh? The DIY would have been the way better option. I have 4 cats and even I preferred the DIY!!!
You could close off the 2 sections of the DIY..to keep food and water separated from the 'toilet' area, inside the box...or buy the cat feeder ($40) that is only accessible with the tiny device on the cats collar..and have it in the kitchen..and I wouldn't put the tassels on because my cats would play with them and shred them...Or just make the DIY as one 'room'... and maybe a clear flap to close off the smell..with an activated bamboo charcoal bag that you can make a hole in the top under the cushion with a little 'grill' for the bag of charcoal to lay on..Also, I would figure out how to attach and detach either carpet..or a cushion on top for either washing or replacing🤔😁
Do the diys that don't get chosen get donated or something? I'm so curious! I always feel bad when they go for the buy...so much work goes into those diys and they're awesome....I mean some of the buys are gorgeous too, but ya knooow
I would love to have the DIY for my cats! But would either cut the legs off or make them a lot shorter. Would never spend $300 for that small litter box one! It was cute but not quite practical in a house with a baby in my opinion. I think the opening in that one was high too. My cats are older so they definitely would need it lower. Great video though! Thanks for the tips! BTW, are you selling any of the DIY furniture? 😄
I really love the DIY. I am not a huge fan of that color of blue however I feel like with the two compartments it would really help to hide the odor of the happenings in the litter box especially if you put flaps over the two openings. Also I love the fact that the compartment next to the litter box has the material on the floor to help catch the litter off of her paws before she leaves. Also with the vie I feel like it was that big opening on the front that the baby will just be able to be getting in the litter box anyway also I feel like the cat will be throwing litter out onto the carpet.
I love the DIY! Functional and easy to access for cleaning. Cats will like the privacy. I might add magnetic catches on the doors to prevent them popping open when kitty turns around inside. Also a line of air holes at the top back of the unit.
a lot of cats are very affectionate and want a lot of attention. Not at in your face as dogs are, which honestly is why I much prefer cats. But that DIY for the cat is a pretty great idea. I might try something similar for my new baby kitten.
Eh.. the treats were a bad idea because cats don’t eat where they poop, (just like we don’t make it a habit of eating in the bathroom) but still. The second room being there for the cat to wipe its paws a bit before leaving ensures little to no mess outside and that means less litter to worry about the baby to find. Also it is way easier to childproof a cabinet than a box with a gaping hole in it. And the buy is not gonna be used as an end table... I know she thinks so.. but just wait until he poops for the first time in it. That’s why she has a whole space just for the cat in the first place. The client also said she liked that she could put a TV on the diy but then didn’t choose it because “the cat is too lazy to jump on top”??? Soooo put the bed on the floor, and put the tv on it?
As soon as that baby can crawl and pull itself up, it can reach into the litter box and grab kitty litter and poop. The DIY would have avoided that, with the addition of a little latch on the doors.
I'm so team DIY! I don't understand why so many people pick the buy over the DIY. I almost always love the DIY so much more 🙈🤗 and also.... it's a little unfair and even a bit of a waste, that Melissa would not mention such an important details (I mean the hight) bc it's so easy to customize that with a DIY. And I feel like that's the case in a few other videos as well. I don't know if that's to make it "more interesting" for the story but to me it just seems a little wasteful and also sad that the DIY loses bc the contestants don't give out ALL the necessary information. What is a DIY for if not to exactly tailor it to the needs of s.o.? 😢
The DIY was hands down the best. Spending 312$ on a litter box? Uh, no.
bought a used one for 5$ and accessories, I dont get to understand how someone could possibly imagine spending more money on poop control.
I agree. just taking off the legs would have made it shorter

I would 100% go with the DIY, I’d make a few changes though, I would leave one side without the door (since I don’t have children) and add a small cabinet (for trash bags, a brush, etc) and maybe even build a cat tree on top of it lmao
The DIY was the easy winner. No competition.
So much fun! Please come back soon soon soon with Season 3 and a long Season 3 too!!! 2 weeks is waaaay too long to wait for a new episode!!!
Team DIY! Maybe a ladder will help Mac get up!
DIY was better/more functional/less expensive...but the cactus bed was so stinkin' cute!
I would def watch this on Tv
I would want to buy the DIY!!!
100% team DIY. If Mac does like to jump that high, put a small side table or stool next to it. Problem solved.
The DIY was purrrrfect!
the diy is the perfect height for the cat as the child grows the cat will need to get away from her but watch her at the same time
I thought she didn't want the baby getting access to the litter box?? Duh? The DIY would have been the way better option. I have 4 cats and even I preferred the DIY!!!
DANYYY !! I WILL GET A CAT THAT CAN JUMP HIGH (VERY IMPORTANT) JUST TO GET YOUR DIY. LOVE IT ❤ I MEAN I LOVE ALEXANDERA'S TOO, BUT TEAM DIY THIS TIME
You could close off the 2 sections of the DIY..to keep food and water separated from the 'toilet' area, inside the box...or buy the cat feeder ($40) that is only accessible with the tiny device on the cats collar..and have it in the kitchen..and I wouldn't put the tassels on because my cats would play with them and shred them...Or just make the DIY as one 'room'... and maybe a clear flap to close off the smell..with an activated bamboo charcoal bag that you can make a hole in the top under the cushion with a little 'grill' for the bag of charcoal to lay on..Also, I would figure out how to attach and detach either carpet..or a cushion on top for either washing or replacing🤔😁
Difficult to choose!! DIY was so creative anb buy so elegant!!
Thanks for watching!
Do the diys that don't get chosen get donated or something? I'm so curious! I always feel bad when they go for the buy...so much work goes into those diys and they're awesome....I mean some of the buys are gorgeous too, but ya knooow
I don't have cats but I would've gone with the DIY!
DIY for sure
I can’t believe she didn’t pick the cat hotel!
Team DIY on this! My cats would prefer it too
I actually like both the DIY and the BUY
DIY is the best. 🐈❤️
I just knew she was going to pick the diy. You both did a great job.
Team DIY all the way!
That’s the same expression my cat has every Xmas when I put a Santa hat on his head for pics 😾
Those are great additions!
a lot of cats are very affectionate and want a lot of attention. Not at in your face as dogs are, which honestly is why I much prefer cats. But that DIY for the cat is a pretty great idea. I might try something similar for my new baby kitten.
Wish there were new episodes every week!
i just really love that cactus bed
Definitely DIY ❤️
I love the diy.
I'm just saying that when that toddler learns to stand with support she WILL be on the inside of that litterbox
Eh.. the treats were a bad idea because cats don’t eat where they poop, (just like we don’t make it a habit of eating in the bathroom) but still.
I almost always love the DIY so much more 🙈🤗
and also.... it's a little unfair and even a bit of a waste, that Melissa would not mention such an important details (I mean the hight) bc it's so easy to customize that with a DIY. 😢
Team DIY hands down. The buy option I can just see a toddler throwing toys in the litter and reaching in after them the diy option has litter hidden
