304 stainless is a poor choice in saltwater.

It certainly can be if not well maintained! We do recommend extra care for customers who use 304 stainless in salt water, but with proper care, rinsing with fresh water after use, and the occasional application of Flitz polish, 304 stainless steel ladders can be a wonderful addition to any boat in either fresh or salt water :-)
