Its pretty refreshing seeing an adult actually be part of the team, and not be a background supporting character. It may be wishful thinking, but I would actually like to see a Persona story with adult characters as the focus (and yes I’m somewhat aware that P2 Eternal Punishment kind of fulfills this).
I can't say I'm a fan of the lack of empathy from the narrative here. Akane was basically being held in a hostage situation, and Zenkichi was being threatened, and yet the narrative decides to blame him for how things went down? Owada's a member of Shido's Conspiracy, which had enough influence to stymie any investigation. Not only that, but Zenkichi had no idea who could be trusted and who couldn't, which explains why he started to see other people, including the Phantom Thieves, as a means to an end, though this doesn't excuse it. That's pretty much the only real thing he can be faulted for though. Essentially, Zenkichi was under duress, and you can't really hold someone accountable for actions under duress. It's like in Horizon: Zero Dawn when they called Olin a traitor even though he literally had a gun pointed at his head, and that of his family. Taking people's loved ones hostage is one of the most tried and true methods of exerting control over someone. Persona 5's theme of rebellion tries to tackle this, but it sadly does not stick the landing, in my opinion. Contrary to what the game claims, not every situation can be overcome through sheer force of will, and not everyone can muster the strength to do so. More importantly, you simply can't make that a crime. You cannot guilt-trip someone over a choice that was never even a choice to begin with. That's just a false charge, which is unjust.
This is an exceptionally late reply, but I agree with you. It does feel like this game's a bit over-idealistic, isn't it? "But what about all the other victims?" asks Akane. Well, he isn't their father! "One man is nothing against the forces of darkness," he says, and he's absolutely right. At some point, pursuing justice is not worth it, and for most normal people, having their child threatened is well past that point. Only a truly terrible father would continue to risk his daughter's life for it.
@@the_wisterian Exactly, and the thing is, with this game being intended as a sequel to Persona 5, the player is meant to already know just how powerful, influential, and most importantly how *dangerous* Shido's conspiracy is. So yeah, Akane doesn't know the first thing about what she's talking about. Now, she's just a teenager. It's perfectly fine to have characters be emotional and objectively wrong, especially teenagers. What's *not* okay is when the game's narrative frames these emotions as being objectively right. The game does nothing to validate any values dissonance you'd rightly feel at this particular part of the narrative, which is passively affirming it.
@adityan2619 "What about the other victims?" I believe is Konoe talking, not Akane. I don't think she actually believes this, but rather her Shadow was tainted by Konoe's ambitions and worldview. Adding to this is that Akane later says "I'll bring down every bad guy", which is dangerously similar to Konoe's own worldview.
@@the_wisterian I believe the narrative is meant to be more implying that the main issue is the aforementioned "means to an end" with the "Do what his boss says and hope she eventually gains enough power to attain his goals" As that's the bits that Valjean are actually lecturing him about as his shadow. (And relates to Les Mis Valjean being tempted to let someone else take the fall for himself during "Who am I", the song referenced the most in the Awakening. (Let the doppelganger take the fall for Valjean so he can help Cosette=help frame the PT to climb the ladder & get the authority to go after Owada)) Even Shadow Akane shows understanding at the coercion aspect (and as Nathan mentions, the "other victims" bit is implied to be projection via Konoe)

To be fair, he was marketed as such. Bit you know Atlus. Sometimes they hide their twists well, often hiding a real twist (like the twins) with the false twist (Akechi being the traitor you saw coming a mile away).
Does anybody love the fact that his persona is Jean Valjean from le miserables and yet his costume leans more towards van helsing.
Yes absolutely
I think his uniform is supposed to resemble those worn by soldiers during the French Revolution (particularly with the shoulder belts going across his chest).
Im gonna say it Zenkichi is a DILF
I JUST noticed that Valjean has 2401 on his chest, that's the prisoner number of Valjean in Les Missrable

@@marcimousie yeah but plot
This is always the problem when you try to just do a cage kind of restraint for someone, it's just harder to suspend disbleif that they can't get out as opposed to if their tied up with rope or chains. I do gotta wonder are rope assests really that hard to make for Atlus cause they have trhe scene where Joker, Morgana, and Ryuji clearly tied up in rope in a cutscene. Then when it ends the rope disappears but their still sitting like their tied up.
We also learn his Arcana which is the Apostle Arcana. We never heard of that Arcana in any of the Persona games before

For some reason...I feel like Zenkichi should’ve named himself Wolfgang but I don’t know if anyone else agrees because I like Wolf as well.
This is the best "I am thou, thou art I"
I love the music is literally the traditional abridged version of "Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There"
Zenkichi persona is so cool looking!
the only better awakening than this is probably junpei's when chidori died.
If Akechi and Sumire were here;
Crow helps Oracle get up, while Violet is captured by Shadow Akane, along with the rest of the Phantom Thieves. And only Crow and Oracle escape back to the real world.

Nah you got that wrong, Crow would'nt cooprate against the shadows he'd chop their friggin heads off hehe.

She’s an AI, so I don’t think she’s susceptible to fatigue like humans are.
Zenkichi is such a boomer, and I love the contrast it gives him to the rest of the thieves, all of which being teenagers
Coming back to this after playing the switch release of royal. I think Valjean is the persona that has the most lines of dialogue, next to Arsene. This whole scene is really well done.
Can I just say that Zenkichi's Phantom Thieves outfit looks pretty damn cool? He's like a friggin' desperado!
Cough the sidestory for akame and her mom reminds me of Futaba's sidestory as well
A lot like the Dojima's too

Its pretty refreshing seeing an adult actually be part of the team, and not be a background supporting character. It may be wishful thinking, but I would actually like to see a Persona story with adult characters as the focus (and yes I’m somewhat aware that P2 Eternal Punishment kind of fulfills this).
That is zenkichi has persona name is Valjean
Thumbnail looks like he grew wrinkles
Are we just gonna ingnore that all the theifs could just squeeze throught the jar bars
