I worked for Ga. Dept. of Corrections for 15 years and they are extremely short handed. It's supposed to be at least four officers in a lockdown unit. They would make you work a unit all by yourself before I left. That's the real problem. I sorry for the families but don't be so quick to judge if you've never worked a unit with inmates on 15 minute watch. Impossible if you're alone. Dude could have moved faster when he saw the guy hanging though.

All prison are short staffed because the entire pay package doesn't compensate for the sacrifices the officer and staff makes. Don't be so quick to judge the staff walking in because he may have just returned from one critical task or had to haul @$$ via various sallyports it not supposed to be but I have worked shifts where I covered 2 units and on those days, my supervisor sometimes suspend rec and all activities just to partially cover post and often times have to give up his duties and be officer, that work he couldn't do may not get touched till next week or later. People gets incarcerated for various reasons however I believe we as a people need to raise our kids to thinks they're above being incarcerated, no to be a wimp but be smart and if there's no case of mental illness, stop tearing lives and communities apart with all the criminal acts cause prison despite the reforms, it isn't a Christlike environment. 🤷🏿‍♂️WHY AN INMATE WITH MENTAL ISSUES IN A ISOLATION CELL HAVE BED SHEET? HE SHOULD BE IN A SAFETY SMOCK THAT IS PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO RIP/TEAR OR DISMANTLE INTO CONTRABAND.

WHY was he NOT checked on every 15 min as he should have been? WHY did the guard mosey along to get help as if this young man was only sleeping? WHYYYYY did it take 7 min to get into his cell? COME ON!! My heart goes out to his family and to all families who've lost loved ones in prison. This kiddo was Bipolar and NEEDED Attention so WHYYYYY. I worked for the GDC for 26 years and retired. At Ware State Prison as of wednesday 4/21/24.......there were 4 officers at the prison on day shift with over 1500 inmates. Aint no officers beating inmates, handcuffing inmates or anything else. Nobody will take the job and the inmates are in complete control. So if you go to prison in Ga......be prepared.....you are at the whim of the INMATE population......not the Correctional Staff. Good luck out there.

You deliberately short-staff jails and prisons so that abuses will occur. It's THAT easy. The fact that no one is effective in demanding more staff is testament to the fact that the majority of the public isn't interested. Nothing is changing. Did you know that women have to pay for their own pads and tampons in prisons? That's deliberate, too. Nothing is being fixed because as long as you keep them angry, they'll be back and prisons will get their money.
It's all structured to maintain employment in public prisons and meet shareholder profits for privatized prisons.
The last thing they want is rehabilitation- that doesn't make anyone money.
Keep them abused, keep them angry, keep them wanting to hurt others- and you have constant revenue.
We all know that prisons could be run better - but not many realize why they won't.

No his death could not have been prevented. Worked in a level 5 security mental health camp and have seen inmates commit suicide and had successful sucides happen before and i can tell you if an individual either and inmate or anybody for that matter is gonna commit suicide they are gonna do it and you won't even know until it's done. Yes there's signs to possibly prevent it and i used to ask inmates that said they wanted to kill themselves I would ask them how they were gonna do it and usually the ones who were serious would respond I don't know !! Those are the serious ones but us officers we aren't councilor's or psychiatrists so

People always say their against abortions, but you can't use the prisons to take care of your mentally ill . The system has to change the laws. Basically you want the staff to visit your son every 10 or 15mins when you couldn't do the same thing when your own son was out in the real world. Help it make sense. How is it fair to ask the guards at the jail to do that when they have a whole jail to run. No

@@s5_atoms When I said prison is not a baby sitter, what I met is some people shouldn't belong in the jail. Jail has a structure and most bi polar people keep sane with structure in their life. A set schedule, meaning things for them to do and take their meds on time.. If they can have maybe a living facility not a jail because they need to be able to function outside jail. Too many people locked up when they shouldn't be do to mental illness. Too many people have mental illness due to unnecessary drugs prescribed by their doctor.

    It's not Suicide
    they getting murdered
    by other inmates
Idk know how they get close to the targets
    But when they do
    They break their necks
And group of killers already have
    Make shift rope
    out of clothes
or from their bed mattress Material
    Anyhow
They break the victims necks 1st
    They hang them
    And after they hang them
Some one gets behind the body
And slices the wrist real deep with a razor
    Right to left
    And
    Left to right
To make it look self Inflicted
It hard for family's to get answers because the jail covers it up
Because they don't want to face a lawsuit
And some of the guards even work with the killers
They get money from the bad guys family's
Basically some of the guards are paid off

      He killed himself unfortunately
