This moment here in the books and the movies is immensely important, because it highlights the point Suzanne Collins was trying to make, which got glossed over a bit with all the hype surrounding the movies. Society had become so dysfunctional that they were sending kids, little kids, to fight to the death for their entertainment. This is a social commentary - we must try our hardest to escape this fate.
@T McDougal “This is already happening here and now”, Wtf!? Is there some hunger games/sentencing children to death that I wasn't aware of? Try again you melodramatic fool!
@@stevedavidson5038 I could almost understand this comparison if it was made right _now,_ but wtf was happening a year ago where kids were being killed?
@@stevedavidson5038 The Syrian Refugee crisis and the humanitarian crisis in Yemen have claimed the lives of many children due to starvation and armed conflict. And to this day, child soldiers in Africa do exist, and sometimes fight against other child soldiers. Needless to say, the comparison to the Hunger Games doesn't need to be elaborated on.
I heard this song today and I didn't know where it came from, but it gave me goosebumps and I didn't know why. Later I realized - it was Rue's song and the song of the beginning of a rebellion.
*Deep in the meadow, under the willow A bed of grass, a soft green pillow Lay down your head, and close your sleepy eyes And when again they open, the sun will rise. Here it's safe, here it's warm Here the daisies guard you from every harm Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true Here is the place where I love you. Deep in the meadow, hidden far away A cloak of leaves, a moonbeam ray Forget your woes and let your troubles lay And when again it's morning, they'll wash away. Here it's safe and here it's warm And here the daisies guard you from every harm And here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true Here is the place where I love you.* I'm crying....
I remember watching this movie in school a few years ago. When we got to this scene, everyone in the class held three fingers up, just like Katniss did.
I saw all the movies blind with my sibling (who had seen the books and films before). When this scene came up, I cried, and she responded that *nobody* gets through this part unscathed.
"Did you blow up the food..?" "Every last bit of it." "You have to win....." "Can you sing-..? Katniss looked like she was in so much pain. In the books she described how she felt the little bit of home she felt with Rue had vanished, and she was all alone again.
her last and final request was just a song from katniss. rue is no longer in pain, in agony, in danger, she’s now in the peaceful meadows, running around to play and explore, not escaping her death.
CRY CRY CRY I can't help myself it just happenes all the time I listen to this, actually pretty often. This is such a beautiful song I can't stop listening to it. Rue was absolutely my favorite character, she was so cute and I still watch back the parts where she was still alive and the part where she died. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I played this on the flute in band and I could feel the music touching eveyone in the room, it was like we could feel the rebellion and the loss of Rue
My band for school is playing The Hunger Games piece because I told my teacher to find one.. So we are playing one and it has Horn of Plenty and this in it, JUST THE FEELS ACK.
I loved Rue, so much I cried when she was killed. To me, she was the spark that started the revolution as her death caused District 11 to being a riot and Katniss cared about her so much.
You know when you listen to a piece of music and you just have to stop... stop what your doing, sit back and just listen because it's so beautiful? I always get that at 2:42
Did the same thing with my sibling (I didn’t watch the films, they had before)! They said nobody refrains from crying during Rue’s death and honestly looking at the comment section I get where she’s coming from
If anything I feel like this was the part that sparked something in Catniss' journey. I feel like it was the rough and jagged reality that this was going to happen over and over again if she didnt do something about it. If it wasnt Rue it would have been someone else. Someone she wouldn't even have the pleasure of meeting. And it was. It's always an amazing thing to go back and see the start to a long journey, just to more clearly recognize where you began and what you began with.
So powerful. This is really a beautiful piece: it's a very dramatic, emotional, powerful song, and the transitions are stunning! And of course, Rue. Fuck me. I literally BAWL MY EYES OUT every freaking time I see it. EVERY TIME! RIP, Rue. We will NEVER forget you! ;~;
OMG I love Rue so ducking much, and I got nostalgic cause I saw this movie years ago and read the books a long time ago too and I'm crying and I can't stop cause this looks like it was soo long ago and I feel alone and depressed... Has anyone felt all of that at the same time?
F*ck i can't forget this soundtrack, and i'm cry like a d*ck when hearing this soundtrack! This is the real masterpiece both movie and all soundtrack ;( and I had no idea how to forget this movie and every soundtrack on it. Seriously, I can't forget the movie and the soundtrack even for a single day(a very weird feeling ), how to stop and delete this soundtrack on my head?!! HOW?!!
The bit from 2:56 onwards is one of the themes I've been looking for. It's both nostalgic and sad at the same time. For one, it appropriately encapsulates the emotions that flow. In the first film, it plays for Rue's death and the resulting District 11 riots. In Catching Fire, I believe it played when Katniss honored Rue and Thresh during her and Peeta's visit to District 11 in the Victory Tour. Then in Mockingjay Part 2, it plays right at the very end during the epilogue when Katniss and Peeta are with their kids. It's the moment when Katniss wraps up the series perfectly with her quote: "There are much worse games to play." I don't remember when/if it plays in Mockingjay Part 1 though. Additionally, the nostalgia this theme conveys is quite interesting. It's kinda strange to have a series about a dystopian nation who makes children fight to the death convey nostalgia with how dark the premise is. However, I distinctly remember when the popularity of the series was at its peak as each of the movies came out, and I got to see each of the main four films when they were released. I did also read the books as well. Plus, the wave of nostalgia I experienced revisiting these films in 2023 was real. I guess if there's anything I can take away from this, it's to always treasure the serene moments you have. Obviously, you will occasionally have those darker moments (especially if 2020 was any indication). But you should never give up and always count the miracles and good things you've been given. Plus, it's okay to be sad, because embracing every emotion makes us more well rounded. This makes Katniss all the more relatable, especially with what she mentions at the very end of the series: the game where she tries to recollect each joyful memory.
I’m fully certain that the reason I cried during this scene opening night was a combination of the beautiful scene those actresses gave us and this magnificent score
I also cried when I watch the scene, but yet I thought: better that they kill her and not Katniss. Besides, Katniss couldn't never have done it anyway.
Until I read the books and saw the movies, the saddest scene I have ever seen in a movie was Artax's death in Neverending Story. Rue's death hit extremely hard.
I'm playing this out loud and my Mom is in the room and she said, "If I relax anymore I'll die." And I nearly broke into tears. We don't joke about death while this OST plays Mom! Ugh.
When Rue asked Katniss to sing was what really broke my heart - Rue realized she was dying :'(
PLEASE STOP BREAKING MY HEART INTO TINY BITS
this comment broke me

Why is that? Commander Lyme is part of the rebel, sadly she died straight after Katniss got shot after her emotional speech at District 2
Kelly Angel Burn i dont think seneca is a bad guy, he just has a shitty job. He could be way better than this
And everyone who cried so hard their eyes got blurry and accidentally tapped it

I always cry at the scene Rue dies. It's a scene full of respect, sadness and tears... :'(
Katniss volunteered to save her sister Prim but in the end Prim still lost her life. Heartbreaking.
This reminds me of Dumbledore's farewell, both are written so well that, most people can't hold back the tears.
