I use Brandon Ackers warm up. You think his warm up is a waste of time? I guess Ill try yours.

(but don't know the name): Literally the whole world knows this tune...except you🤡🤡
On the nature of Daylight
This was also played during the end of Arrival. It works so well. It's called "On The Nature of Daylight" by Max Richter. 😢Beautiful and sad at the same time. Lovely cover!! 💛
Oh yeah it was so good in Arrival!
Correct.
Side note: this score was firstly used in the movie Shutter Island which was released in 2010
Recognised it right away, one of my favourite pieces of modern music.
And it was recently recycled in the third episode of the last of us 😉
I swear I just heard it in The Last Of Us Episode 3 (SPOILER) when Bill & Frank go to bed for the last time. Might have been another Max Richter number
The piece is called "On The Nature of Daylight" composed by Max Richter
At the bottom of the description it finally gets a mention
yes idk how schindlers list come into the picture and it is not sad it is heroic
One of my favourite piece of all time, I've been a fan of Max Richter for over 15 years. When his work started gaining momentum in the film industry I was very happy to know more people were experiencing it. Another song of his that I consider an all-time-favourite is 'Sarajevo.' Beautiful.
Max Richter is a fucking fantastic composer. I love his work so much.
Also there is 'This bitter earth by Dinah Washington' and it's absolutely haunting. It's used in Shutter Island.
"This isn't the tragic suicide at the end of the play. I'm old. I'm satisfied. And you were my purpose." Rest in peace, Bill and Frank.
Nah fam 💀
Wat?
The last of us
Ooof only thing sadder than this song is the comment
@@Gobbenobber The song was used in the third episode of The Last of Us
I've said it before but I love how expressive your playing is. So many people never learn how to use the other voices in a guitar
Well worded.
I love how you said that
I love the use of this song in Shutter Island. Still makes me tear up.
Damn great movie that was... To be honest I'm still not entirely sure if he was being gaslit or genuinely crazy xD Well played producers.
looking for this comment, I didn't know where I knew the sing from.
@@reznovvazileski3193 I watched some analysis a while ago and there’s a lot of evidence he chose to get lobotomized
@@reznovvazileski3193 He was traumatized and broken and as a result, was used in a experiment that was believed to help him snap out of the delusion. It ultimately works and he remembers everything. Unfortunately, he remembers all of it and decides he would much rather die in peace than to live on broken, hence his final line.
"Is it better to live as a monster, or to die as a good man."
Wow explanation
I don’t think it’s that sad! It’s just ridiculously beautiful, and it makes me emotional on a profound level. But a good kind of emotional.
Yeah I agree. It spent sound inherently sad.
It sounds like reminiscing.
To fully understand the emotion of a piece. You should first master it, then play it when you are in a quite environment which you really like being in.
I agree, it's not a sad song. It's actually quite hopeful.
I first heard this in 'Shutter Island' blew me away as did the movie and its getting used is everything these days lol. Genius chord sequence.
@@jamiefugazi6974 I most likely heard it in Shutter Island as well but I think it’s more associated with Arrival for me nowadays. It’s in The Leftovers and The Last of Us too.
Id beg to differ that On the Nature of Daylight is a sad song. While it is objectively melancholy, it builds and resolves with a sense of catharsis that is empowering. Its the nature of gradual daylight, coming out of darkness and looking forward to brighter moments. With that, this rendition is phenomenal & well deserving of countless likes.
Exactly this!
The piece is made to invoke regret. The way the notes interact and converse with each other is evocative of that emotion. There is a sense of reminiscing about something that you cannot change and at the end you reach acceptance but not harmony or happiness just the cold reality that acceptance brings you.
@@TheTideKing004 yes. To me sounds more tragic than cathartic. Longing.
I think it’s one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard. The thing is that it’s been played in numerous movies during sad scenes, so I think that could be why people think of it as a sad song. If people only know this song from movies (I was first heard it in Shutter Island, for example) try to just listen to the music and don’t think about any movies.
Sa lahat ng nagbabasa nito, hindi tayo magkakilala at malamang hinding hindi pero hiling ko sa iyo ang lahat ng pinakamahusay sa buhay at lahat ng swerte sa mundo
On the nature of daylight! This is one of my all time favorite pieces. I actually did know this by name. Beautiful rendition!
Max Richter is a brilliant composer
Man Nathan, your heart was bleeding out onto the strings! Love the emotion and depth- well done!❤️
Gosh, had goosebumps from the very first seconds. This track is a masterpiece, a true embodiment of sadness and sorrow
Not the saddest song imo the most beautiful. Brilliantly played as well.
“Is There Anybody Out There?” Easily taking number one spot 😔
Can you give me a link to that one?
When this started in Last of Us I was like oh now they’re REALLY trying to make me cry. I love this song.
"Which would be worse - to live as a monster, or to die as a good man?"
I first came across this song in the movie The Arrival and I have adored it ever since. Quite frankly it opened a whole new genre that I love listening to when cooking or when I just want to get in touch with my soul. Id recommend Sarajevo and Autumn Music 2 as well, as these are another 2 most memorable pieces of art from Max Richter in my opinion.
Your passion and the sensitivity of your instrument really shine here!!
Ahhh man I’ve been looking for this song since it played in The Last of Us HBO. It’s so beautiful. Thank you for this cover.
there is also a game for ps4 which called Last Of Us 2
The show is so good
crying, again.
amazing arrangement Nathan, beautiful!
This song is so beautiful! There is a reason it has 1M views. Congrats Nathan!
Bold of you to assume I don't listen to this song every time I'm sad.
On the nature of daylight is a song that really gets the sadness going when it's needed. Banger.
Gay lord
Man……you are such a magician, its a sad song from a great singer, amazing you did it perfectly thank you
loved this song in the movie "arrival"
you're playing is fantastic thanks for the memories
It's been a year since my country has invaded Ukraine. I am shattered and at my lowest point in life. I'm in exile, my family is drown in propaganda and sees me as a traitor. I don't know what to do right now. This song pretty much describes my life at this point.
Must be difficult to be Russian right now.
Just remember some of us understand the people of a country aren’t the same as the countries government.
Everyone who's left Russia, and everyone who stays and pushes back within it, and everyone in jails or prisons for valiant protest, have nothing but my utmost respect.
The russian government does not represent the russian people. We aren't mad at the people, we're mad at the government. I hope you and your family are alright in these times.
I’m sorry man. There’s nothing else I can say to ease your mind. Good luck to you and everyone, live long and prosper.
Come to Ukraine and fight against russian occupants.
i usually sit with my hands on my mouse and keyboard, hovering, ready to click another video. this made me lift my hands and bring them to my mouth. amazing
Guitar player for 26 years here. I admire your technique and I love the fact that you play on nylon strings. While I play metal music, I also very much enjoy classical music and nylon strings are best suited for that, I think. Much softer and warmer.
The tone coming from your playing is too good! Marvelous job!
This song is perfectly aligned with my soul right now. Someone whom I have loved for over twenty years is beyond my reach, and nothing that I can do will ever change this....No - I m not going to do anything stupid. Just weep and continue on my way..
Grieve, yes. Then pick yourself up and carry on becoming the man you're meant to become. Rooting for you David
The theme tune to Schindler’s List is the saddest by far
Agreed 100%
Schindler list sounds nice
The saddest key is D minor...
I cried way too much at the end...
Damage by David Sylvian the more saddest piece of music..
That is some beautiful playing. You really show the counterpoint in your articulation. Very moving.
This song was used in Shutter island and Arrival - "On The Nature of Dayligh" - great songs and great movies !
first heard this song from shutter island and its been on my playlist ever since. was so stoked to hear it being played in "another show (trying not to spoil it)". gave me the same goosebumps as i first heard the song.
Curious chord shapes you chose for this rendition. I know they can be played with easier fingering, but i think your choice of to use these was critical to the voicing you produce. I've tried the "easy" inversions and it doesn't feel the same at all. Truly wonderful
Arrival is my all time favorite movies! This is so good brother! Thank you for making my day.
0:17 That's the moment when my mind made the connection & I realized, where I've heard this song before.
Even though I'm not really a movie person, Shutter Island is still one of those cinematographic masterpieces that takes you on a journey through various emotions.
I love it when certain art mediums actually encourage you to pay close attention to subtle details, which then rewards you for being able to put the pieces together by yourself & surprises you with moments, which catch you completely off guard.
As a self taught musician of 15 years, & as someone who is really enthralled by writing my own orchestral scores lately, mostly for horror movies, it really almost made me shed a tear at how beautiful your rendition of this masterpiece was.
What I love most about your tribute is, that you really accentuate certain notes & not just play the entire piece as one monotonous loop.
That's the sign of a great musician for sure, who understands his craft & serves the music, rather than showing off your ego.
You should definitely check out Padmasana by Buckethead. This timeless instrumental guitar arrangement is one of the most beautiful sound combinations I have ever heard.
Bless you !
I know people say they don’t think it’s sad but the feeling of sadness comes from hearing the hope and the joy that is so pure your kinda sad that you see in small places like this and not all the time.
furiously adding to every possible playlist
It was also played in the movie Shutter Island with leonardo
it's the silence that brings the emotion here
I know this song
it's :" On the nature of daylight".
I discovered this music by chance with the video named: "the lamb and the wolf" of the game League of Legend
I saw your pain as you played this. What ever or whoever it was, I am sorry for your loss.
i love how he roasted us in the beginning “your guitar warm up is a waste of time, download mine instead” 😂 0:18
Seriously one of my favorites compositions of all time, and it sounds amazing on guitar. Max Richter is a genius
'Most people will die with their music locked inside them' - Benjamin Disraeli

On the Nature of Daylight has been one of my favorite songs for years now. I'm glad it's finally being recognised in the mainstream.
You should listen "The sigh vanishes" by Carl Metoppus
@@g32.recitales link to video? Can’t seem to find it
I saw the title. I clicked the link. You played the first two notes and I knew the song! First time I heard the song was in the movie Arrival. Such an amazing film and amazing theme song.
Everyone knows this song, and if they don't, they absolutely should. It's like the Mona Lisa of music: the happiest and saddest song ever. The ugliest and most beautiful.
If you are feeling good, this song will bathe you in a sunrise at just the right temperature. If you are sad, you will cry your eyes out.
Great arrangement. It sounds succinctly candid on the guitar, and you were able to cover melody and harmony well!
It sounds longing, missing, and remembering but painfully
Yet in a beautiful sweet way, bittersweet, like the realization of love in the death of somebody you were close to. Or something being ripped away, and then the realization of the beauty that it was is left behind
This is such an accurate comment.
@@AcousticOlli sort of true, yeah, mona lisa may be a little extreme, but for the man that made this comment, the song obviously touched his heart....and im cool with that ;)
let it be that to whoever wants it to be that for them.
did that make sense? ;)
cheers mate
I get the same from giorni dispari by ludovico einaudi
@@psyismylife try baby Justin Beaber
This song shows how beautiful a simple song can be if it's played well and with such feeling. It is amazing! Congratulations!
In the Nature of Daylight, easily the saddest song I’ve ever heard in my life. To me when I hear it I think of losing someone near to you. You try and feel their presence, but they just feel further and further away. Every time you try and reach out to touch their face just one more time, you feel them slip further and further away until you can no longer feel the warmth of their love
Oof, On the nature of daylight.... it's the most authentic, musically display of pure grief and/or severe depression.. it starts with confusion and denial, second one being overwhelmingly increased with a pain, that nothing seems to compare to. The pain just grows further in the composition, with its top-point peaking in just real despair and ending in absolute resignation.. I think it's the ONLY composition out there, that depicts these feelings so unimaginable pure to its core... nothing can compete with that. It's just painfully real, beautiful and devastating at the same time...
I remember it from Arrival and Stranger Than Fiction. It was written as an anti-war piece about the crisis in Iraq in 2003. I love this piece and the album as a whole. It conveys so many feelings.
I know where it leads but i imbreace it
Just clicked into this out of the blue and its a version of one of my favourite songs ever!
on the nature of daylight - max richter
A song I listen to almost every day. It's such a beautiful piece, and you did it justice. Well done.
If you guys love "on the nature of daylight" please also give "Spiegel Im Spiegel" a listen. Same general vein and is absolutely beautiful. Plus it was put to perfect use in the final episode of the good place
I wrote my whole undergrad composition thesis on Pärt... His tintinnabuli works always bring me to tears, especially Spiegel im Spiegel, Fratres, & Variations for the Healing of Arinushka.
It was firstly used in the movie 'Shutter island' by Martin Scorsese and later used in the movie 'Arrival' by Denis Villenueve.
I'll never forget the name after it traumatised its way into my mind, thank you very much.
I love his look at the end lol he knows he fuckin nailed it
I know this song and play it often…I’m also an older Metallica fan, and it has remnants of “to live is to die” in the mid part of the song
Exactly, I was about to say that
Thanks for the link to the tabs. I haven't played my guitar in a while.
for me the saddest song by far is "the antlers - kettering", the switch in the arrangement from vocals to guitar to express the unspeakable is a absolut genius
That whole album is emotional dynamite, what a beautiful and tragic piece.
Thank you, Nathan. From my heart - thank you.....
Damn I was holding my breath for some reason! 10/10 will watch again.
Everybody knows the name of this song by now. It’s On the Nature of Daylight, composed by Max Richter.
That is absolutely beautiful Nathan!! Thank you so much. If you don’t mind doing requests then please do the theme from Schindlers List
I really wanted to. But I won't be doing any more John Williams arrangements for the foreseeable future since he required me to take down all the properly licensed arrangements I've done of his music to date. Not his biggest fan at the moment
@@BeyondTheGuitar I heard about that😢 it’s so heartbreaking
@@BeyondTheGuitar Oh wow that sucks
@@BeyondTheGuitar You sure its him and not some predatory company acting on his behalf that gets a cut
@@placeholdernameisplacehold7671 it’s possible his publishers are requiring it - but not sure how it would benefit them to request a takedown, because they already were making money from them. I paid them royalties from every sale.
"Because this is my last day" 🥺I wanted to cry so bad
My wife could only hear what I was watching. 3 bars in she asks “why are you watching something sad?” I ended up laughing for the remainder of this video.
For the record … he knew the song! He posted the music sheet with the name right on it! Pretty tricky saying he didn’t know because he knew people would click on the video and post before watching the video! And that’s how he gets paid! Nice song anyways, played very well!
I remember hearing this in the movie Shutter Island. Such a great movie and this piece only made it better.
What part of the movie? I would love to know where this piece of music was played in that movie
@@xxxcoolxxx08 It's the scene where Teddy forgets his wife and she vanishes in his arms
These videos have movie quality, seriously
I immediately knew the piece! It is one of my all time favorite songs of all time. "On the Nature of Daylight" by Max Richter. Most people seem to connect it to the film Arrival from 2016 (and most recently Last of Us I'm guessing), but it was actually popularized through Shutter Island (2010), and, I believe, applied in a better way. Great cover!
As a guitarist, this touched my heart thank you
Man has 3 art PhDs, the Art of Music, the Art of Videography, and the Art of Editing 🔥
This and gymnopedie get me every time. Heard this in Shutter Island and it takes you through a journey of emotions
Max Richter is probably one of the greatest composers of tragic sounding music, well, ever. Should try The Trees by him as well, that would sound amazing in classical guitar.
It's used in a few happy-sad moments
I've forgotten how beautiful the simple acoustic guitar was
Knew this immediately - it was the main theme for Arrival and was used in the recent episode of Last of Us starring Ron Swanson (which is what I assume inspired this video)
So beautiful, Nathan. You always amaze me. What a gift...and the discipline to hone it all the more.
I love it! The feeling I had for it reminds me of the same feeling I had for Life Is Strange Theme (Golden Hour - Johnathan Morali). If you don't mind my request could you do a cover of it?
Your Skills + Johnathan Morali's composition would sound great together!
Knew it instantly, A beautiful song indeed and a perfect cover. Great Job!
It's the mic for me! (and of course, great instrument and technique) What a great sound you've captured. What mic are you using to record that?
I’ve been listening to this song for years, but I never once thought of it as sad. This is a song of adoration and wonder to me
I agree. I've never heard this before, but it immediately took me back to my childhood.
how come your sound quality so good that my crappy buds feel like im wearing 10k earpiece or smth?
never heard this song before, but this is just beautiful. Thank you for your rendition.
it’s not sad it’s heroic in the final scene of the arrival music when the main character finally understan everything and live past future at once. It’s popped into my mind during the music with emotional, there is nothing sad in it, it is a bit heroic music as the song progress well getting more roch louder, at the end in mol might could be sad but let’s say a monumental heroic music
Never thought of throwing in a pinch harmonic into an arpeggio… I like it
wasn't this tune played at the end of Togo? one of the saddest endings to a film!
I also recommend Richter's Tiny Desk Concert version of this
Yesir it was
Shutter Island, Arrival,The last of us ep03🥺🔥🔥🔥Max Richter is something else 🔥🔥
Gracias. No conozco obra más perfecta que esa. Ejecución y versión impecables. Estoy seguro que si Max Ritcher la escuchara, haría una sonrisa. Abrazo grande desde Argentina
'ight... Im gonna learn it now, always good content keep going man... thanks ! ❤️
On the nature of daylight. Knew 0:01
I know a song called 'The Nature of Dying' by Goreshit that's like a reference to this, but I didn't know the actual song. It's very pretty.
the last of us episode 3 made me feel so many emotions
Finally a Max Richter piece getting recognition, i kind of guessed it by the first 3 chords because i always listen to this, and his other piece "November"
I've heard sadder songs, sorry. But you play really well!
Never heard that song before, and I know songs that brings me more tears.
This song isn't sad, it's pretty.
I clicked on this video thinking “I’m a musician I obviously know the name of any of these ‘don’t know the name’ videos songs”. However, I realized I’ve never ever heard this one.
Heard it in the arrival, the last of us (bill and frank episode), shutter island. It’s beautiful. Btw: I hope someday to be as great as you with the guitar. Love your vids
I prefer the Bill and Frank story from the series to the game since it also tied up Bill's story arc too.
