So crazily ironic that the very first item with Bob Barker as a host is a fur coat! As everyone knows, Bob Barker became a vocal animal rights supporter. Not only did he close every show by reminding people to have their pets "spayed and neutered" but he's been a vegetarian for decades. :)

  • @smfmnoneya9134

Bob was always an amazing host but the thing I like about him the most is at the end of EVERY show he gave the message about spay and neutering our pets. His love of animals makes him my all-time hero.

Summers at grandparents ALWAYS included sitting with grandma at kitchen table having morning snack and watching Bob and Rodney telling people to COME ON DOWN. Awww what a fun video! As an American, Price is Right is such a part of my childhood. It comes on at 11AM so as kids we only got to see it in the summer or when we were sick. My favorite of the games has always been Plinko. I think if I got to go on the Price is Right and play Plinko I'd burst into tears lol. And Zoe's right, the contestants getting called down is iconic, I even remember once pretending with my cousins when we were little that we were on Price is Right and one of us would be like (name), come on down! You're the next contestant on the Price is Right! And then we'd run down the stairs excited 😂

Tbh, this was every kid's favorite part about staying home. I could watch reruns of this show for weeks and weeks and never get tired of it. Bob Barker was such an amazing host and a huge animal rights activist. I loved how he always seemed like he was having fun on the show. It just doesn't have the same charm it did since he's been gone but I still enjoy it. Bob Barker, Regis Philbin and Alex Trebek were the real kings of American game show hosts. 💜

Hey Zoey, I've been to the actual Price is Right show a long time ago lol! It was a family trip. My mom used to have a small role in a certain tv show so one day, she thought she'd take us all to Price is Right in the studio because she wanted grandma to experience what it's like to go to a game show because grandma was of course a fan of Price is Right. She also was thinking that by taking us there, I'd get "discovered" lol! Mom even put make-up on me... I'm a guy who never wears make-up lol! Grandma, grandpa, uncle, aunt, we were all there. Somehow, grandma got picked as a contestant in the show! With all the lights, it was so hot my make-up was melting with my face! Grandma was definitely very happy and laughing while guessing prices. We didn't win the main prize but grandma sure had tons of fun lol!

Here's the basic structure of how the show has worked since it's been an hour long:
It starts with four contestants being called down to contestant's row. They bid on a lower priced item there. Whoever is closest to its price without going over wins it and goes on stage to play a pricing game for something even better. Three items are bid on in the first part, but they have to fill the empty spot with another contestant before they can do that.
The three contestants who have already played a game on stage spin a big wheel, which has numbers from 5 cents to one dollar. Whoever gets the closest to one dollar without going over goes to the showcase round at the end of the show. Three more pricing games are then played after this, and they do another showdown at the wheel to determine who else goes to the showcase.
In the showcase, two showcases of prizes are presented. They usually end with a really nice item such as a nice vacation or a new car. Whoever has won the higher value in prizes of the two contestants has the choice of whether to bid on the first showcase or pass it to the other one to bid on, and wait for the second showcase. Again, whoever is the closest to the actual price without going over wins their showcase. However, if they're the closest, and they're $250 or less from the price of their own showcase, they will be awarded both showcases as a result.

For most kids growing up in America, especially during the 1980s. This was the show to watch when you stay home sick and during holidays and specially summer. After the Price is Right was over. You go and find your friends from school around your neighborhood. Either by walking or on your bike. 1980's were the best. Going to the malls just to hang or play video games. Going to Astroworld. Going to Galveston Beach. Or taking a trip down to Mexico to visit family. But the Price is Right was my favorite American morning game show. In the 1980's there were alot of game shows and talk shows.

In addition to hosting this show for so long, he also did the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants for a number of years. His time there ended because of his being against giving away fur coats to winning competitors in the late 1980s.
As for The Price is Right, I went to the show in 2007, a few months before his retirement. It was amazing in the studio. Actually, when he did his 5000th episode in 1998, the stage where they tape the show was renamed the Bob Barker Studio in his honour.

Now that you've reacted to Jeopardy and Price is Right, you need to react to Wheel of Fortune! That has been on TV for a very long time, too!

My parents both worked full time so when I had days off school (like in preschool or kindergarten), I'd go to a family friend's house since I was too little to be alone. They were an older retired couple and guess what we watched all day? Game shows and soaps. I was too small to understand the soap operas, but I could guess prices with the contestants. Even hearing the music really brings me back.

I used to love to watch the show. Now I been watching Family Fued. I watched it when I was little. I love it. And still watch it today only with my favorite Host. Steve Harvey.

Staying home from school, it was on TV around lunch-time. You had to pick between either the news, or Price is Right. This was back before the days of the internet haha

I watch this show every morning with my grandma 😂 it comes on right after "Let's make a Deal" (you should react to clips of that too because you would definitely like that!)

Grew up in Socal, and went to tapings of this a few times. It is not a random selection of the contestants. When in line to go in, a casting person would ask people questions and its whoever they preselect that is called.

I used to watch Bob Barker when I was a kid in the late 1950's on an old show called Truth or Consequences...

Iconic. I loved watching older gaming shows especially when I was in elementary school. Id always watch it and wheel of fortune with my grandma.
Newer game shows are fine but the older ones just have a different kind of charm to them

The show first started in 1953 with Host Bill Cullen. By 1967 Cullen left and Bob Barker was hired to replace Him And later Carey replaced Barker who left his former show Truth or Consequences broadcasted on WNEW 5 in New York.

I remember watching him when I was a child in thd 90s and always wished I could be on the show. Plinko was one of my fav games!! Bob Barker was a great game show host. He always liked having fun. Steve Harvey reminds me of him. America has the best game show hosts! Alex Trebeck and Pat Sajak will also go down in history!!

There are so many game shows that I would love if Korea, and other foreign places would pick up. Especially supermarket sweep, let's make a deal. You have to check out the old and new versions of those sometime. The Price has been one of my favorite shows for ages, and I miss Bob, but Drew is doing a stellar job. And I love that it's fun and doesn't take itself too seriously. Once when they pulled out a display of coffee and a maker the cart stopped so suddenly it toppled everything over onto the floor, they were cracking up about "so, who wants to bid on spilled coffee and a now broken machine". They of course would give contestants a new one but the thought was funny.

I thought that Bob Barker passed away but he's still going strong at 99. He's a national treasure just like Betty White was.

Part of what was so great about Bob was he had a bit of a mean streak... He loved to drag out the price reveals to torment excited players, and if someone couldn't spin the wheel around all the way he'd boo them. All in good fun, of course.

As he got a little older he would also get a bit cranky with contestants who took too long or didn't know the rules of the games. But Bob was great, just made it more fun
