    Even if it is someone's wedding day, the fact that some brides think that they can dictate what people do with their hair, weight, etc. is nucking futs.

      Yeah, unless someone shows up with swastikas carved into a buzz cut or something, I don't see how it's justified. These brides should have just hired models to pose with them if aesthetics are more important than their relationships.

      It happened to me with an ex friend & bridezilla, I had beautiful naturally curly hair down to the end of my back, however I was tired of taking care of it and wanted to cut it to my shoulders = 2/3 of the total lenght, she gave me a look and said "don't you dare cut your hair before my wedding" I was 😮 but laughed nervously as I wasn't sure if she was joking, turns out that was just the beginning...😅

    Regarding the comment about asking someone to wear contacts. Not only can not everyone get an affordable comfortable contact to wear (the worse the prescription the thicker the contact) but also, if they don't normally wear contacts prepare for a bloodshot bridesmaid because those things take time to get used to. Especially the poking in the eye bit, I actually had to practice poking my eye without my eye slamming shut so I could wear contacts (on optometrist's orders, I did not just randomly start poking myself in the eye).

    OMG. That last story. I love that the bridesmaids had glasses girly's back.
    I wear glasses, and can't imagine trying to function without them. My eyesight is so bad, that I have a very specific spot that I put my glasses when I take them off to sleep because if I don't know exactly where I put them, they might as well not exist anymore. I have such anxiety about trying to do anything without my glasses. 👓

    If I ever had a bridezilla tell me to take my glasses off for a wedding, I'd say sure but heads up I squint REALLY HARD (I don't know my exact prescription off the top of my head but things come into focus for me at the one foot mark 😅 anything farther gets blurrier and blurrier) so either way your photos are getting "ruined" because I will not remember not to squint 😂

      That's how I view these too. They're all just daydreams and fantasy, nothing else.
      A wedding is about you celebrating your love with your partner, not an aesthetic purity party. You don't need matching bridesmaids/groomsmen. You don't need a fancy location. You don't need all the expensive stuff. Yet these people act like villains when it comes to their 1 day.

Years later, she was getting married again (she had three sons from her first marriage. She approached me about getting married again. I was beyond happy for her (I actually really like this guy and hated the first guy). She asked how I would feel about not being her maid of honour (she wanted her sons to stand). I told her we had been there, done that and I just wanted to be there to see her marry a man who deserved her. My mom (her second mom) officiated the wedding. It was absolutely beautiful. 100%, you can get a BOMB ASS wig noways for $30-50 that you CAN'T tell it's not real, when installed properly.

    • @bufficliff8978
      @bufficliff8978 4 месяца назад +32

      That's probably the other type of option the bride was referring to. Depending on where one lives and knowledge of wigs it's not always possible to get a wig on that short of notice, and nice wigs with long enough hair to do the multiple styles would be expensive.
      An expensive wig with more of a heads up could have been possible but in one week would have been difficult.
      The bride likely would have recommended a wig.
      I'm usually more chill than the comment section. The bridesmaid knew how important hair styles were to the bride. I would have told the bride before cutting my hair.
      I'm pretty sure she said it was 2 weeks before the ceremony. Sometimes hair can fall out overnight, but it's also possible that if she had waited 2 weeks the patches that were lost could have been covered by extensions.
      We don't have enough info.
      Sorry for being a rambling time-waster. I'm sick at home and bored.
      I think a lot of not-the-assholes are inconsiderate while simultaneously definitely NOT being assholes.
      For a wedding event as extravagant as a 3 day event with multiple hair styles there's definitely a hair stylist. I would have contacted the MOH or bride and let them know what was happening and asked if I could contact the hair stylist to make sure they have the tools to make the styles work and then cut it after the wedding. The hair stylist might have even had an "in" with someone who had a quality wig.
      The bridesmaid communicating could have prevented the entire problem before it happened.
      She wasn't an asshole, but I wish people communicated more.

    • @AmyVanhoozer
      @AmyVanhoozer 4 месяца назад

      Of course, that assumes the OP wants to wear a wig - BTW, wigs are NOT comfortable, especially if you're just starting to wear one and not used to it (I have alopecia and have worn wigs for over 38 years, starting at age 11, and have switched to hats or scarves instead). Charlotte mentions the bully who showed up at her house party; something similar happened to me. In high school, a female covert malignant narcissist had been emotionally torturing the cutest guy in school. She was super-flirty, but when he asked her out, she said she had a boyfriend who went to another school - so it "wouldn't be right." But the love-bombing continued until he graduated. He & I started going out, and I had a birthday party for him & a mutual friend, and this psycho (who had never even acknowledged my presence in school before) showed up for the party! And even signed the card, "Love, Cheryl." She showed up unexpectedly at a couple of other events we attended. Malignant narcissists never stop trying to ensnare their victims again, and there's a reason they are the inspiration for the Succubus of legend.

Got my dress for 35 dollars from the thrift store, very pretty. Some of the gifts were - altering the dress, making the cake, buying components for decorations, helping make decorations, making an archway, setting up and taking down. I had SOOOOOO much support and I made sure to thank all of them and invite all of them to the wedding. I did not expect them to give us money or other gifts since their help WAS the gift. My in laws helped with the arrangements (we got married on a popular date and my mother went momzilla, cancelled the wedding and we had to scramble 6 months pre game) and the centerpieces, along with decorating the reception area. I was just happy to actually get to the date, be able to have my dad walk me down, my autistic brother with me (he did not travel anywhere at the time and he came by vehicle), and be married at the end of the day. The fact that people were willing to spend this time and money to do these things for me was just too sweet to ask for something else.

    The last story was heartwarming in that the other maids not only defended the maid who wore glasses, but supported her to the end. There are some people who wear glasses who cannot, for a multitude of reasons, wear contacts. It isn't that they don't want to do so, it is an eye condition or other health reason they aren't candidates for them. This bride didn't deserve their friendships. I'm happy the bridesmaids all had social, ethical and moral compasses and weren't intimidated by the bride to not act accordingly.

    As a woman who had to shave off her hair last year bc of medical reasons, the first story was heartbreaking.
    Cutting your hair can be a very personal thing and having problems with hair can literally lead to depression.
    When i was admitted to a hospital to have specialists monitor me and try procedures, in the very first meeting they told me "you need to get into therapy, at the very least join a support group as these things can lead to harsh psychological issues bc humans have strong attachment between their identity and hair" and the docs weren't kidding! I was sobbing each time in the shower when hair fell out, and at some point it got so bad I only saw a monster when I looked into a mirror (that's how bad the hair looked/got).
    The only thing keeping me from going fully into a deep depression was my partner, family and friends.
    And it was they that finally convinced me to shave what every was left. It was one of the hardest things of my life, but I am glad I did it.
    The docs had easier access to my skull for procedures and things improved. It felt weird and uncomfortable for months with just stubles and i did look like a boy sometimes but since then things have much improved, tho some of these health problems i will carry with me for the rest of my life.
    Much respect for OP to cut her hair and a big FU to the bride. What a bad friend.
    I'm glad she sued her to get the money back.
    EDIT: Wow! Didn't think so many people would even see my comment, but thanks for all the kind words! And for all than went through something similar: you are NOT alone! You are brave and strong and you will get through this, just like we did :) For those worried for my health: i have recovered enough to be able to live a normal life again. Things are off, i still rarely wear my hair open as you can see spots and wierd coloration of skin but my self-esteem is back to a normal level and i am no depressed anymore. I have accepted that this might be how i am now and that is okay.

      It can be extremely traumatic and people don’t understand how scary it can be when your body goes out of control. I know several survivors who didn’t even know if they’d survive much less if their hair would grow back. I shaved my head in honor of what would have been my brother’s 40th birthday for St Baldrick’s and donated to Locks of Love. So many people said I was brave. It annoyed me, only because I knew it would grow back, and quickly. I have fine curly hair so it grows like a weed and there really isn’t too awkward of a grow out. Hope you are doing better, if that’s a possibility in your situation, and your hair is growing like a weed too, and if not, that you have learned to rock the bald and relish how little time it takes to get ready in the morning.

      Yes! As a makeup artist, brides often open up to me about concerns and worries for the big day. I do my best to help where I can, but I also let them know that if they can let go of impossible worries they will enjoy their day no matter what. My very first wedding client and bridesmaids were amazing, everything was perfect. During the ceremony the country club was hit by a microburst (mini hurricane). The windows were broken by flying patio furniture, and the power lines were taken down- no power. No lights, no music, and the caterers couldn’t cook the meal. I comforted the bride, and gave her a pep-talk with a makeup touch up. Everyone helped fill the place with candles, and we passed out salads and appetizers. You will never find more beautiful photos, everything was by candlelight. The photographer backed his car to the ballroom and we used his cars sound system for music. What started as a disaster was a wedding no one will ever forget! When the bride was able to relax, they had the most amazing day with the best people. She kept a great attitude, and that made all the difference. 💕

    I wrote my vows and stumbled through because I have intense social anxiety. My husband has given speeches to tens of thousands of people at once, both live and broadcasted. He spoke from the heart at the alter and it was perfection. It truly shows how we complement one another and I still look back after a decade and that’s one of my favorite parts despite how terrified I was in the moment. ❤

    I had a good friend that I met through work. She did flower arrangements from home and when I was getting married I asked her if she could make my and my bridesmaids bouquets. She did them, they were beautiful they would’ve costed me an afford but she did it for the cost of the flowers and gave them to me as my wedding gift. It was the best gift I received because it came from such a sweet, kind, wonderful friend. I couldn’t even imagine 1)not inviting her to my wedding or 2)asking her where my wedding gift was. WTAF, who does that?!?!?

    I know that I am late to this party but the thing I find so unbelievably disturbing is the number of superficial brides out there. The ones who are worried about the look of their weddings and not the things that really matter… sharing a beautiful and happy moment with your well-meaning friends and family. Nothing else should matter. Watching these videos makes me feel like a relic and makes my heart sink at the sad movement of the world to all that is artificial and simply unimportant. When did love, getting married and sharing a wonderful moment become so superficial, commercial and commodified?

  • @revgurley
    @revgurley 4 месяца назад +65

    Couples, listen to a grizzled wedding officiant - your "vision" is what you hope for your wedding: your dress style, venue location, dress requirements for guests, food. But your MEMORIES are going to be what actually happened on the day. Will it go perfectly? Though we vendors and ministers do our very best to make your one day exactly how you want it, things WILL go wrong. A lot goes wrong and you couples NEVER KNOW because professionals fix things without bothering you about it. So yeah, you can request certain things from your wedding party, but honestly, the stuff that goes wrong becomes the stuff you share and laugh about years later. I promise!

    • @TheBaumcm
      @TheBaumcm 4 месяца назад +5

      After having seen how many weddings go down and end years later, all I can say is focus on the purpose of the day, to be legally and/or sacramentally committed and to celebrate this decision. The other stuff is just details and fodder for funny stories later. My hubby got his groomsmen tankards. I have a vivid memory of them with my FIL, singing Piano Man while sloshing them all over. Wouldn’t have guessed 6months prior when my mom went momzilla that it would be so funny. Even started a new family tradition.

    For the first story. I don’t plan on getting married, but if it was me, I would sit down and talk with her about how she feels and ask if she wants to step down. Not for cutting her hair. To make sure she isn’t putting herself under too much pressure and risking her health. If she feels like it won’t make her worst, I would allow her to stay. But never put someone’s health below a wedding.

  • @TheColorHopeIsBlue
    @TheColorHopeIsBlue 4 месяца назад +23

    My mom developed the exact same hair condition just two months before my wedding and she was super stressed over it (which I’m sure didn’t help). She went to the dermatologist, tried some medication which didn’t work for her, then finally opted to get special wigs. Let me tell y’all, she. Looked. Fabulous. But you know what I would have done even if she hadn’t taken all those steps to make her hair look good? I’d still let her be in my wedding, because she’s my freaking mom and I love her to death. I didn’t care how her hair would look in pictures as long as she was there.
    Also, just fyi, if you have a great photographer the pictures will look great too, but nobody is going to look perfect or exactly how you want them to. Nobody. Especially when candids are taken. And it’s really, really, really okay.

    These stories of brides excluding friends or family because they won’t “match the vision” never cease to make my jaw drop.
    I was asked to be a bridesmaid for a wedding and immediately told the bride that I would love to, but explained I had a pic line (one of those IV lines inserted into your vein for administering medicine…it hangs out of your arm and there’s a whole dressing/bandage situation, etc). I was afraid it would ruin the look of her bridal party or distract people.
    She gently laughed and said it was absolutely not a problem and she still wanted me in the bridal party, so long as I was feeling well enough. She even worked with her family to make several accommodations for my health and comfort. AND fully supported and encouraged me to make a pic line cover that coordinated with my dress (instead of one that was meant to disguise the pic as much as possible). She helped me EMBRACE my pic line as part of my look, rather than feeling awkward and ashamed for being so visibly sick.
    And this from a girl who wasn’t quite convinced I was actually sick to begin with when my symptoms first started. Made up for that in spades once I had a diagnosis.
    Wedding days and bridal parties are about being surrounded by your loved ones. Not about orchestrating the perfect image. Why would you rather look back on your day and remember that you excluded a friend for her haircut (especially one related to health problems), than to remember having that friend around despite your “imperfect” pictures? Either way your friend with be present in your memories.
    And I HATE when people use language about boundaries and respect for trash behavior like that.
