As a child adopted at 3 (now 64) with no parents in infancy, my parents faced an uphill battle to make me 'normal', through sickness and peer abuse. They had little help and a lot of advice, but through it all I believe they did okay.
I understood good parenting started with listening, followed by understanding, adding explaining, setting appropriate boundaries. kindness to all regardless of age, gender, class or ethnicity and animals. Appropiate compliments and as a parent be willing to admit when you are wrong. Some of what I believe makes a good parent.

It seems that Gable was not such a good guy as he is in the movies. Maybe this is not true of course because Hollywood is a really rotten place and it wants to show the stars in a really bad light. Gable maybe was a great guy in real life, but the rotten Hollywood made him bad.
