Same things happened in AFGHANISTAN. Buddhism and Hinduism rules there before Islam. Iran (Persia) is also same case. Zarathustism rules there before Islam. They came india from Persia to save themselves from persecution. Today we call them Persi.

I don't think Buddhism has been replaced by Hinduism because the concept of Buddhism is derived from Hinduism itself. It may be your political thinking but it has nothing to do with reality. Because Buddhism, Jainism, Aajeevika and Charvaka philosophy, Sikhism and many other ideas have emerged from Sanatan culture itself, some are still in existence and some are lost over time. But Sanatan is still the same today. Yes, it had definitely happened in history that the Sanatan tradition was starting to weaken among the people, the new concept of Buddhism was starting to make a place in the public mind, but Adi Sankaracharya again strengthened the Sanatan tradition in the Indian society.
