Sounds like you are qualified based on your educational background and teaching experience. If you want to teach high school, you should just prepare for your interview (defend that you are very capable to handle hs students although most of your experience is with the little kids).

Hello, ma’am. The timeframe really depends on certain factors, especially availability of slots in your chosen visa sponsor and school needs. Mine, however, took a year as well because of CoViD. If I don’t factor CoViD in, it would be around 6months.

Bringing your kids isn't a problem at all as long as they are below 18years old (kids that are eligible for a J2 visa). You just have to be upfront with your sponsor on this because every sponsor has a different take on when they suggest you bring your family with you.

They do require recommendation letters, preferably 2 from supervisors and 1 from colleague. However, I'm not sure if they really reach out to them.

I have heard of people who have done that. It would still be safe to reach out to the sponsor first to know if they cater such setup.

They will be your J2 po and requirements are almost the same plus the documents that will come from your sponsor.
