- On a foggy, night in London, just when the light is failing, a man enters a curio shop he had never seen before. He merely entered to get out of the bad weather, but what he discovers there points to a mystery. Soon we find out that ghosts sometimes aren't what they seem.. A classic early 20th Century ghost story.

I truly loved the endearing message of decent good deeds over sinful wicked greed. Lovely story.
When I saw this, "The Magic Shop," by H.G. Wells popped into my head. I knew I had to listen to it. I love this story. A ghost story that is nice and wholesome. Wonderful!
Great job, as always!
Keep up the good work!
I’ve done the Magic Shop.
Did you see ?
@Classic Ghost Stories Podcast - Tony Walker I just found your channel in December, and I am working through your stories as youtube pushes them to me (one or two every two days). I have not seen it yet, but I was hoping you did it.
I will look for your rendition of the Magic Shop for the next story I listen to this evening!! Thank you!!
Jip, in the story, reminds me of my children when they were younger (they are 10 and 11 now).
Thanks again, Tony!
This is such a sweet story. It's like a bit of the best pastry you have ever had and then you find out it's good for you, too. I have often bought things from thrift shops, but they have never been a fortunate find like this, just satisfying to me.
It is a lovely little story
Excellent story. I wonder how many people would be this honest in today’s world???
Excellent story. Ofcourse made better with your amazing narration (I am such a big fan of your voice). Please do try to find more of such short stories they are much more enjoyable.
Aww.
I agree Shireen. Readers voice is excellent.
A ghost story with a jolly ending, celebrating remorse, goodness, redemption - great!
Years ago, I visited an old asylum for the insane as a field trip for a psychology class. We were allowed to view the files of former inmates. Each file bore the heading of either “RELIGION” or “LOVE” as the reason for each patient’s debilitated mental state. Very telling, I think, as each of these has the potential for fulfillment and happiness or total misery.
Anyway, thanks for a beautiful tale-as always, beautifully read!
More proofs that they were not there to treat anyone, whatsoever. Just to lock them away, and usually do a lot of physical and psychological damage themselves, for: what about career, sex abuse, Christ, at least dozens of other things.
@@StalinLovsMsmZioglowfagz It depends on the state. Nebraska and Idaho are very modern. Texas is horrible. Florida not good either.
@@SaltyMinorcan I guess that could be true. In film school (I actually used my major, editor) I saw a horrifying documentary on one. I can’t remember where it was from, it was pretty infamous. Maybe Cali or NYC. There should have been some standard set up, of course. Thanks for the info.
Cheers
Just goes to show how little they understood mental illness. Probably someone's pet theory
Thank you.
Absolutely fabulous! I love the more supernatural rather than the blood and gore if you know what I mean! Really well written! And well read, many thanks and blessings!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I love your voice and story telling 💜 This story reminds me of when I returned a cash mistake back to the bank back in the early 90"s. I was delayed a few days due to a sick child. I'll never forget the look on the teller's face, she was in a lot of trouble and the bank was making her repay the money. When you read about him smiling it brought me back to that day. She was so thankful for my honesty. People said I should have kept it but I just couldn't and was so happy I didn't.
That is a lovely story
Thank you! These stories are a comfort. Especially those with acts of redemption! Actually I like them all! Lol
Great story; very enjoyable indeed!🙂👍
Btw: I can't imagine who would give you one star. Someone with poor taste; apparently😄 Different strokes for different folks, as they say. I give you 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟✌
Thank you! But people like different things.
A beautiful story. The informal but in depth analysis of the stories narrated is a huge bonus. I listen to a story more than once at times yet do not feel bored or tired.
Thanks so much Tony
+krishna sen Krishna you are always so kind and helpful
I’m really enjoying all the different stories you’re doing. It’s nice to hear some that haven’t been done to death! Thanks so much!
I started off just reading what I liked, but now it’s mostly recommendations from listeners
Obrigada ! Thank you !
Thanks! Obrigada is a new word for me!
We really enjoyed this story! Hadn't heard it before. We immediately listened to it again. The information about the author that you give at the end is interesting. Thank you for your channel.
Thanks for listening
I do not normally listen to Ghost stories, I am Glad that I have listened to this great story.
My initial visit to The Corner Shop was so enjoyable and spooky, I came back. I dare say I will return a third time to poke about in its shadows!
Such a wonderful story.
This was WONDERFUL! Loved the story, the surprise ending and the narration
💓So enjoy this reading Thank you.
A really wonderful story with a lovely ending. Beautifully read as always ☺️
Absolutely brilliant. Thank you excellently read 10 stars
I just absolutely love this story 💚🐸
I really enjoyed this story- and I didn’t guess the ending which is unusual and more enjoyable for me. I love your reading but also the end where you tell us the history of the author and chat over the story. I feel as though I’m reading a story with a knowledgeable friend. Thankyou very much for your readings.
As to reviews- I’m listening on RUclips - where would I go to post my 5 stars ?
Well I you want to leave a nice review you can on Apple Podcasts. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/classic-ghost-stories/id1480201597. That would be nice. Thank you.
I’m so happy I found you reading these ghost stories! I especially liked this one. Thank you so much , love to listen at night, in the dark.....
Thanks for listening
Another great story, and of course so well read.... Thank you!
Thanks for the great stories x
Breathtakingly beautiful, Tony. Thank you.
The way you tell a story is an art form.
New subscriber from Washington! Glad I found your channel
Me too
I liked this ghost story a lot. I would like more of them. Thank you so much
Tony, you have a knack for finding excellent, 'lost' stories and then reading them perfectly. BTW, your own story, 'The Hitcher' in Cumbrian Ghost Stories has become a real favorite; first class shocker!
Thank you. The Hitcher goes down well at live readings too.
Just listened and really enjoyed this story. It amuses me to say to my grown up son when he asks where the car park ( or whatever) is, in a spooky voice, oh there hasn't been a car park there in nigh on 50 years. This story reminds me of doing this. I try for a west country accent for extra effect. Anyhow, thanks Tony!
Hi again Julie!
You're really rolling Tony 🤗 Thank you for your work🌈💗
I will run out of steam
@@ClassicGhost Do you need coal?
Good job! You had me goin'!
Wonderful story, well read as well. 😊🦋🍀
Thank you! 😊
New subscriber here from Oklahoma, so glad I found you , I was so bored but this story title sounded interesting & I was so right. You've a wonderful warm , soothing voice and I'm so looking forward to hearing the next stories.
I’m really pleased
I enjoyed this story a great deal! Bravo! Thank you so much.
I love your voice and your reading style, Tony. I particularly enjoy your after reading. I feel I know you. Thanks ❤️
That's the beautiful quality of podcasting. I feel like I'm speaking to friends too.
Is the commentary at the end more entertaining than the story (which was fantastic, and fantastically read!)? I love how you go on. Thank you.
Ha ha. My mind jumps around
Your epilogues really add to the podcast. Which is ironic because, usually less is more
less is more, eh? Hmm...

I always thought the same thing! I’m re-listening to a bunch of them because I was skipping the chat at the end when I first began listening, just due to the fact that they’re typically never much good. I really enjoy his though!
Hello, I thought I was up on all eras of ghost stories until your channel, how I missed this atmospheric, dare I say, almost cheery, one, I can't imagine, especially, since I can spend hours dreamily, lost, browsing, in a dusty, piled-up- to-the ceiling! shop. Listening, ah nostalgia, some of the wondrous, unique finds...those days long gone around my part of the world. I probably asked are you an actor and published writer? You are so talented in both areas- seems like you shouldn't be an accountant unless it's the Monty Python or Tony Hancock type. Namaste, Z.
I have great respect for accountants, but I couldn't be one. I'm too fidgety. I'm not an actor no. I do have some books published, but by myself as no one else thinks they're any good...
Exquisite narrations combined with terrific material choices. Ye olde English brings charm & adds colour to our modern imaginations.
Very interesting story of redemption and good morals. I also enjoyed the information of the author at the end.
Great story. Your voice is a blessing for all to enjoy. Thank you sir.
Good story, with a great reader. Thank you!
Most enjoyable story, liked the end twist, wonderfully read
Many thanks for another great story.
Wonderful story!
I enjoy listening to you read. The vivid descriptions in this story are wonderful. Thank you.
I’m pleased you like it
A heartwarming story overall but the daughter strikes a bit of a bum note when she puts her father's change of heart down to mental decay and shows not the slightest remorse for the fate of the people he cheated, Maybe she doesn't want to look too closely at the source of her own material comfort?
Maybe I'm reading too much into it? But this strikes me as the most interesting part of the story. Anyhow - thank you for this. I like your selection of stories, your reading of them (I find your voice calming- good for evening listening:) and the interesting little comments at the end . All very enjoyable.
Yeah, that really rubbed me the wrong way. How awful.
Yes, that rubbed me the wrong way, too. Just because other people would act the same way doesn't make it right. If I bought something at a garage sale, lets's say, and it ended up being worth a huge amount of money, I would bring back half of the money to them. Otherwise, it is really cheating them. But, I know everyone has different morals. One of the reasons the rich get richer.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍loved this one & yes I loved *The Phantom Coach*
I really enjoyed this one. Thanks for sharing such a lovely story.
Loved this story and your reading as always. Many thanks🌟
Another favorite! Thank you!
I love your accent - I'd be happy just hearing you read a phone book. :-)
Wonderful narration of quality tales! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautifully narrated.♥️
Glad you liked it!
Excellent story! Old antique or curio shops are very creepy to me!
Even though I saw the end coming, I loved this story. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you! Very enjoyable - so glad to find you.
I also enjoyed your talk at the end of the story. Thank you for doing this - there are a lot of us ghost story lovers in the world and your channel is a good respite at the end of the day.
You’ve helped me pass many enjoyable hours, thank you for your efforts in doing this.
It makes me happy that you enjoy it
I loved this story! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I like the way you read the stories! I also like the bit at the end where you add some comments on the author, most ppl don't do that, great idea! ^^
Oh thank you! I just started doing it. I don't know why
Loved the ghost story!
I loved this story and so well narrated and yes the story did show that this gentleman had a conscience and that because of this, the father was able to rest in peace, but not only that, friendships were able to florish and grow into what who knows i will let my own imagination go to work and give the story a nice ending
What a cracking story! You have me hooked to your channel - have'nt heard a tale told so well. Really brilliant 👌
Welcome aboard!
Enjoyed that one Tony, and beautifully read, as always. I especially connected to it, being a habitual haunter of curiosity shops...as my crammed home will attest (were it to have a sentient voice of its own. And who knows, perhaps it does? At least, whenever there are no ears present to listen...). And finally, may I say, only you can chattily comment on the weather and mention it being "the darkest time of year" with an unconscious (?) hint of creepiness in your voice. On to the next story! 😀
Have enjoyed hearing your ghost stories! Thank you for your channel.
That story made me cry happily! Thank you!
Good. As long as it's happily.
Algernon Blackwood: "The Centaur"--- his real masterpiece. A novel: little known, littler read. A difficult read, every agonizing sentence richly rewarding. Mind blowing in the end. Hope you can find it, pray you read it.
I will put it in my list :)
@@ClassicGhost I am experiencing the kind of warm fuzzies one might anticipate from stroking the back of a grizzled centaur.

Nice story. It reminds me a little of Maupassant's 'The Haunted Bakery', especially the last line.
Great reading as always Tony, although not a surprise ending, most enjoyable!
Outstanding ❗️... Thank you ever so much for your your beautiful interpretation and for sharing with us 🙏😇
I love the stories you tell and I love the sound of your voice.
Thank you Walter. Much appreciated
Great narration , so clear to listen to ❤️
It could be a tad louder.
I loved this one!
Lovely story.Well read.Thank you.
Delightful. Was so drawn into the story - as if the narrator was personally relating his experience to me ...over coffee. 👏👏
Marvelous! How gray life was before I stumbled over this channel; every story a curio shop of human . Your voice enhancing work which is already enhancing. Thank you so much! Stay Healthy :) !
Awww.

Nice story- wonderful reading done- thank you! I love going to antique and second hand stores but i’ve never been that lucky😀
Excellent! The Story, the reader, and the information at the end!
Many thanks!
So fun and relaxing! Your voice and articulation makes me appreciate the English language.
Ditto this time around. Thanks so much, Tony!
Enjoying many of your stories from South Florida (an expat from Southend). Now I’m older, I find it remarkable that Britain produced so many good writers of crime, drama and children’s stories in the nineteenth and twentieth century. I wonder if you have any thoughts on that?
Let me get back to you on this. I will think about it
Loved this story👍🏻👏🏼👏🏼😊
A really all-round, satisfying story - thank you so much!
Well read. I thought the story kind of trailed away however..
Lovely story x
I just stumbled upon your channel yesterday. I can’t get enough. Love the stories, love the narrator! Makes my day at work just fly by.
GREAT STORY !!!! You certainly have real skill as a narrator, plus you find wonderful ghost stories. And please, write more !!!!
I am trying. Working on a new collection of stories but also trying to learn RUclips. Hopefully today I’ll get down to writing
I give you 5 stars!
A character with a moral temperament who is a lawyer: hmmm, a real mystery
I know some nice lawyers.

I was more or less referring to their reputation. Being snarky
