That's a great pyrotechnic display, and the chemistry mentioned does check out...but that's clearly not nitrocellulose. That's cellulose soaked in potassium nitrate and sugar (the flame color and smoke give it away). And if that was real nitrocellulose, it would've gone up in flames in your oven, since it autoignites at only 320F...and you said you like to bake it at 350F. I'm not a safety freak, and I love explosives and pyrotechnics, but your video has the serious potential to mislead people into accidentally burning their house down.
Yes, this is definitely cellulose just mixed with potassium nitrate. There might have been some nitration of the cellulose that has happened in the process, but clearly not to any great extent. I have made nitro cellulose, by letting cotton react with a mixture of sulfuric acid and nitric acid. The nitrated cellulose should be rinsed in water afterwards. Properly nitrated cellulose does not give off smoke when burned, in fact it is sometimes called "smokeless powder". I have also merely mixed cellulose with potassium nitrate, which makes a nice pyrotechnical result, but it burns in a very different way, as your result in the video.
Yeah that's not nitrocellulose at all😅 that's cellulose with an oxidizer (potassium nitrate). One mayor property of nitrocellulose is that it burns WITHOUT any smoke at all😅 you make nitrocellulose with sulfuric acid and nitric acid. (And ofcourse cellulose) You just mixed cellulose with potassium nitrate. And that is actually one of the easiest things ever xD. Just dissolve potassium nitrate in water and soak the tissue 😅 will give exactly the same results (potassium nitrate content must be adequate to fuel so not to much and not to little) So yeah some very hefty miss information here😅😬
Be careful, keep your rxn temp at 15C don’t wear flip flops when working with strong acids, and don’t put your NC in the oven. Keeping a low reaction temp makes a much better product plus you did not let it react long enough.
Shouldn't NC like... Don't smoke? I'm not an expert but.. I think that NC has smokeless burning.. This looks more like if you put KNO3 in hot water and soak the rope or paper in it.. It literally has the same effect as his NC
@@msszone keep your reaction temperatures low and let it react over night. Make sure the NC is properly neutralized with sodium bicarbonate. And try to store it wet in a basic solution of NaHCO3 and water if at all possible then wash and dry before use
I like how carefully you wheight all the ingredients, and your deep understanding of the processes you are doing and good practices. Keep up the good work! (P.S. I would suggest your dearest to put a good life insurance on your head, It's worth it!, and just in case .. , invest also in a good healthcare plan...)
But he he DOESN'T carefully weight out the ingredients, he has absolutely NO understanding of what he's doing, and he has TERRIBLE lab technique. Your statement only shows that you too have no idea of what you're commenting about.
If you plan on actually using sulfuric acid you can use drain opener and complete a distillation in a outdoor space which allows you to make sulfuric acid 98%.
Wtf that's not it you could never put nitrocellulose in the oven you would blow your door off.. All you need is sulphuric acid and nitric acid to make it
You are supposed to make it in a lab grade borosilicate beaker, in 0 C, and you need to wash the NC with sodium bicarb solution and then with water. Let it dry on its own

Any advice on do dont do while making it and store it

That's good example of a rocket candy fuse. If you had actually put sulfuric acid in an aluminum pan it would destroy it pretty quick.
The sandals make this magnifique 🤌

You added a crystaline form of sulphuric acid????
Sulfuric acid....and open toed sandals .....hmmmm I see the PPE was back ordered
😅😅😅
Ntrocellulose burns smokeless. You clearly got it wrong..
yes i know, I've already answered it
@@dcmlab3097 You answered it how and where???!
👍👍💥💥
too smoky
This is by far the most sketchy way
Why heat the reaction? It's exothermic and should be done very cold!
Because you need something to start the reaction
@@dcmlab3097 not true
What is the concentration of acid you used
like 98% i think , it did say pure.
Ok
He didn't use the acid and that is why the result is clearly not nitrocellulose. See my comment above to explain why. This video is a hoax
How to make dynamite pls?
could it be the pure cellulose we extracted from the tree?I watched your cellulose video.
Dont fellow this procedure
That's not NC all . Do not mislead people!!
....holy shit dude. NEVER do that again.
Didn’t make it properly but a good show atleast
Nice video man, keep it up

missleading.
Why tf are you making it in a pan
why not
