Ts95 not authentic doesn’t mean others can’t understand what we said. Personally, I feel that being able to deliver what we want to say is more important. Authentic or not is another case.
Ts95 As a Chinese myself I do feel sad that Singaporean are losing their roots... but it’s kind of unavoidable thanks to the government. Since young classes were conducted in English expect for our Mother tongues. Otherwise between locals to locals they do understand each other with a mix of languages. In fact if you try to speak proper English to a common folk, he will think that you are arrogant. But if the person does speak proper English to me, I will speak proper English back to him.
It's a totally different situation in Taiwan! We rarely use English in daily life, unless you work in a foreign company. So our English is not that good. 😅
Yes, most of the time, we only use Chinese. No doubt, Taiwanese is better at Chinese. However, when it comes to English speaking, due to lack of daily practice, we can't speak English confidently and our vocabularies are too limited as well. Hope our educational system can learn from each other in order to make all of us good at both languages without any difficulties...lol
Jia-cheng Xiao we actually learn mandarin for almost 15 years since we were in preschool up till secondary school. Definitely the lack of usage that’s the cause of why we lose touch with our Mother tongue.
I am a little bit surprised that many Singaporean ppl can't write Chinese characters as good as English. This proves that daily usage is so important to maintain your language skills. But I think the environment also plays a critical role, because you don't need to use Chinese as often as English in Singapore.

Although I do not support discrimination and bigotry (most of my friends in jc are, in fact, PRCs), I am sorry but I don't see anything wrong with specific Singaporeans having issues against specific PRCs. Kevin Yeung I believe one of the reasons why these people are not able to answer that many questions correctly is because they have already left school. Of course that is no excuse for our terrible Chinese (although i must say that i expected more from our Chinese). As an adult, not many people speak or write in Chinese. In fact, even the better professions such as doctors do not use Chinese frequently enough to vividly remember every word that they have learnt. I believe one of the reasons why these people are not able to answer that many questions correctly is because they have already left school. Of course that is no excuse for our terrible Chinese (although i must say that i expected more from our Chinese). As an adult, not many people speak or write in Chinese. In fact, even the better professions such as doctors do not use Chinese frequently enough to vividly remember every word that they have learnt. Although people in Hong Kong mainly communicate using the Chinese dialect (i forgot which please enlighten me), i believe that the main language there is Chinese, which would explain why they would get most of the questions right.
Most younger Singapore chinese people are a disgrace and are overly westernized, and most of them hate their own mother tongue , and even hate the country of their ancestors, and that is why when there is any conflicts between people from China and those of other races, you always see most of the Singapore Chinese people speaking up loudly against the Chinese people from China . Most Singapore Chinese people actually hate their own race, which is such a huge disappointment .
I can recognize the words but can't write off memory lolol
Haha i can see they r more focus on hanyupinyin thats why their oral is good tho. When singaporeans travel malaysia, i can't differentiate their accent with china ppl (except with serious china shanghai/other state accent).
does traditional chinese count
When I was younger, my primary school Chinese teacher deducted marks from my homework for using Traditional characters. I got so frustrated that I basically gave up on Chinese lessons. Ended up with C6 in my O Levels due to lack to interest. Thanks, "teacher".

其实作为在中国长大的人,现在不常写中文还是会忘,也不能怪新加坡人写不对字。
哈哈哈,但是现在新加坡很多家长都是周末英文华文都在补习了。
