I haven't played TFTD in a really long time so this longplay will probably take a lot of time. 16:00 The RUclips video encoder seems to crap itself because of all those dye grenades...
God these first X-COM games were soooo good. I've played the heck of this and Apocalypse (the third one). I still remember the horror of engaging the first Lobster Man
What is so cool with this game, I remember you got like a book with the game that contained all kinds of cool lore. Jake Armstrong I believe was this veteran from the first invasion, and they reference him here in the intro. Also, I remember being blown away when I one day realized you could shoot down a UFO with multiple barracudas at the same time
Boo-yeah! Good old XCOM, in acid colors! And that is why I rarely used smoke grenades - it makes both enemy and your units almost blind, like in a night missions. Good thing to cover your units, not to hide your enemies.
This strategy is crazy. Consumes too much time units to move. I used to press as many soldiers out ASAP. Did cca 200 UFO kills, that would take my whole life to finish if I played like this. But its interesting, never thought of using those grenades.
Dude... I NEED TO PLAY THIS. Holy... How have I missed this iconic game series' origins, and games like Space Crusade for so long. These games definitely should have had better marketing.
yes, those ships are unforgotable. I still remember that level design & ship graphic to this day. It was so hard, in comparation to original ufo. Also tentaculats... that was horror atmosphere, if he started moving towards, if he will have enough time units to reach someone.
Yeah i hated too especially with MC hostiles and lobsters before getting better armor and drills. Always save and load before month ended trying to avoid them. And there was a bug that cause inability to collect alien artifacts and corpses from first part of the mission. Same bug with alien activity missions with pyramids.
the ones i cant recall their name that turned my soldiers into them scared the crap of me every damn mission, played this game and ufo enemy unknown so much as a kid good times!
i miss this game a lot, wish someone would remake this game to download and play for ipads or android tablets with the same sound effects, it was so addictive. hope my wish comes true and maybe create it as a league game where we can all play online taking either the alien side or human side, that would make it truly fun
I'm playing tffd after a long time. I'm stuck with science research. I've got the MC control and also the distruptor launcher but no tank, no armor, no vehicle to research. Still the basic vehicle that are oneshotted if I try to engage a very large dreadnaught. What have I missed?
Live alien research probably. IIRC, you need to capture a lobsterman navigator (or commander?) to get the research started, then lobsterman commander to advance the research.

THIS GAME HAS PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR DOWN TO A POINT THAT IT WILL SCARE AND TERRIFY THE CRAP OUT OF YOU DISGUISED AS THIS BRIGHT COLORFUL LITTLE GAME, DON'T LET THE GRAPHICS FOOL YOU The most difficult part of the game for me was having to learn something called "detachment" in order to finally let go of soldiers that die and stop trying to save-scum in order to prevent their death. HARDCORE
Yeah and firing harpoons trough whole battelfield on land xD Aquanaut can jump off 4 floor and don't even drop single health point. Girls on beach and woman aquanauts making death cry with male voice.
You can adjust the scroll speed in the options menu. If you're playing the original DOS version of the game, and even the lowest scroll speed is too fast, then lower the emulated CPU cycles value.
OpenXcom says it is not compatible with TFTD. I bought it from Steam it is using DOSBox but it is not easy to play with it. Can you explain your setup? Thank you
the first time I tried to learn how to set up OpenXcom it was kind of a nightmare, they don't explain the process very well... try using the EXE Setup instead of the ZIP file they provide... and even then, after installing you have to copy your entire Xcom TFTD installation folder over to OpenXcom's folder, there's a folder where you place stuff in... I don't even remember to be honest
