You said that the English had more advanced technology to conquer. But this simply isn't true in this part of the region. When the first conquistador came here, the Portuguese had guns and ships. But the Malay Melaka empire also had more guns and ships. They did not manage to subdue the Melaka empire on their own. They used corrupted Melaka leaders to infiltrate the empire. Plus, the Sultanate was at their lowest peak due to corruption, instability and etc. The Portuguese took advantage of that. Similar with the English. They came at a time where the people are not united and less educated.
In short, it's not about the technology. It's more complex than that. When the Portuguese first attacked Melaka, they confiscated thousands of guns and shipped them to their port in India or Africa if i'm not mistaken.

To me a lot of bad acting … and that british tyrant with heavy make up looked really bad… It is history and there were British that took advantage of the malays but there were also good british ppl as well… Syamsul’s directing in Mat Kilau was lazy and all relying on special fx n fighting … I am deeply concerned that this is a high gross film …

I dah tgk movie ni kat netflix. Memang teruk jln cerita dan lakonan pelakon2 di filem ini. Terutamanya lakonan Aidil putra ni. Tak ada face reaction langsung. Muka dia mcm patung di semua scene..tgk betul2 ada tak face reaction dia boleh diterima...saya pun tak faham mcm mana penonton boleh terima filem ini sebagai filem terbaik.Dengan menunjukkan scene2 pembunuhan terhadap kanak2 dan perempuanlah filem ini mendapat sambutan...bagi saya.i bagi rating 2/10

Pertama: Watak Mat kilau ialah seorang yang tenang (orang tenang memang kurang face reaction) itu kamu kena faham dahulu. Manakala watak2 lain terutama Wahid tidak kaku
Kedua: Jalan cerita. Betul plot cerita kurang tersusun tapi skrip islamik yang ingin di bawa sampai menurut orang Malaysia
Ketiga: Scene pembunuhan kanak2 dan wanita adalah sejarah yang terjadi di zaman Mat kilau, itu adalah sejarah.. Walaupun filem ini bukan 100% ikut sejarah asal, tapi sejarah pembunuhan British terhadap kanak2 dan wanita dan kebangkitan Mat Kilau adalah sejarah yang benar
Keempat: Terima kasih sebab dah luangkan masa menonton dan ulas filem Mat Kilau
Itu character pahlawan yg cuma ada satu misi dlm hidup dia. Antara hidup atau mati cuma selangkah didepan. Mana boleh ada perasaan mcm drama cintan cintun. Dlm keadaan begitu manusia sudah terlupa bagaimana mau tersenyum dan ketawa. Luka parah ditubuh belum sama dgn sakit nya dalam jiwa yg terpaksa menanggung rasa amarah dendam hingga kadang2 makan dalam.
Lain kali tgk kat cinema. Kat panggung, audio jelas, skrin besar. Bergegar badan. Tgk netflix, skrin kecik, audio tak sampai bergegar. Lepas tu banyak gangguan kat luar. Dan sapa2 yang takde jiwa patriotik, memang akan rasa filem mat kilau ni tak bagus
