*but Atlantis isn't real! What are you, stupid?*
-smallbrain Simon setting himself up for future humiliation
Man, I love a good Simon Whistler video. Thanks for all your hard work buddy. It's gotten me through the past few months
I went to Calakmul and Tikal on 2005. I still remember standing on top of those pyramids and not seeing anything else but forest/jungle in the horizon. Truly an amazing experience.
Same here! I went in October last year! An absolutely unbelievable experience
Great video, but I hate the snow!
Great job as always, Simon! I love your ancient city episodes almost as much as brain blaze and casual criminality! 😅
I'm simple, I see Simon beard, I click. The beard has wisdom that I must assimilate.

Brilliant episode 👌 I'm so glad I'm into history. This was a fascinating watch 🤌
That Atlantis research "time sink" reference....well played sir.
Thank you. Fascinating!❤
Ebla, Elba - whats the difference. Just give us more, Simon!
Great 👍 list !! I am in amazement of the actual advancement of Ancient Cultures both in the Americans and middle Eastern
UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY, THATS MY SCHOOL!! Never thought I’d hear its name in one of Simon’s videos 😂
The very 1st thing that was discovered at the Akrotiri site was the ancient formula for multiple RUclips channels about different topics. Once lost to humankind forever, Simon was able to interpret & implement this & will continue to do so until there is nobody & nothing else on RUclips except him. Clearly Simon must be stopped.
Please do more of these.
The section for the Ebla discovery has a typo and states Elba. So when it started I was thinking of the island and it took be a moment to figure out what was going on ;-)
Couple of typos: if the site is called Ebla, it should not be spelled Elba. And the text on screen called them Hitties, rather than Hittites. Although my own autocorrect is convinced I mean Hotties, so you have my sympathy...
And then there is Mohenjo Daro. Pronounced Moh-hen-Joe DAH-ro the Joe syllable is a hard j like jar. I checked two sites because I figured whatever the locals say it's just as likely to be a soft j like Spanish rather than the Arabic hard J.
That is why it’s called automistake.
@@kitefan1you obviously haven't watched Simon much if at all. It's his trademark to mispronounce names horrendously.
@@kitefan1he is diligent in pronouncing the names of victims of tragedy correctly. Any other words, results will vary.
@@garymaidman625 Yeah, I know. And the people are more important than geography. Once in a while, with really famous ones, I'm compelled to type. Usually what happens is after a couple of videos I can't stand it any more. He has a whole team for goodness sake. If he was one guy I would leave him alone for proper nouns. The most annoying thing about getting older is you can see that a situation resembles a prior experience. But sometimes, even if butting in made the prior experience worse, you can't help yourself. 😁
In my lifetime Troy went from an apocryphal location to an archeologically verified city in present day Turkey that was besieged and burnt right on schedule. And, for the first time in over a thousand years, not repopulated. The Homeric legends might be full of fiction but the city ruins were very real to the ancient and classic Greeks colonizing Asia Minor and the Black Sea. Also a Mycenaen palace found in Thessaly is a strong match for Iolcus from whence the Argo sailed.
In your lifetime? That must make you what, at least 150 years old or so?
Dam your like 100+ fair play 👍
Sometimes the best fiction is made from truth.
They didn't really seal the deal on verification until the 1930-40s, no? Prior to that, even Schliemann couldn't be positive. Wilhelm Dörpfeld and Carl Blegen were the ones who kinda confirmed it was actually Troy of Homer's speaking. Could be what the OP is referring to as in their lifetime... some of us "dust farters" were born in the 20th century 😉😆
5:16 Surprisingly, this time the graphic was wrong and Simon was right. It is Ebla. Elba is the island where Napoleon was exiled.
Well, one of his exiles anyway, not his main exile, that was St Helena.
No no no! Wikipedia and all other reliable sources, including Google Earth agree the name of the island Napoleon was first imprisoned/exiled on is Elba. E L B A You can look it up yourself.
@@markl3893 no no no. The place that Simon is talking about is a different place, a place in Syria, a place called Ebla, that is E B L A. Btw, wikipedia is not a reliable source. Before acting like a douchebag, try watching the video, reading the comment you reply to and getting it right, because you have clearly done none of these.
@@markl3893 That’s exactly what I said. The graphic before the story said Elba, the island off Italy, but the script (and Simon’s pronunciation) is about Ebla, which is an area in Syria.
Atlantis Conspiracists: "These cities all disappeared, therefore they must all be Atlantis!!"
Step 1: Get life insurance policy
Step 2: End up on The Casual Criminalist
I did a double take on Ebla, at first thinking Elba.
I wish I had as much snow as this video had in it. I’m guessing festive video?
Can you make a video on lost or rediscovered viking cities/villages?
I'm amazed I didn't know of Calukmul even though I did know of a bunch of other, lesser, Mayan cities.
6:38 superb edit, every plant, mineral, or animal named
Please turn down the volume of whatever the sound is supposed to be.
Akrotiri is also a brilliant board game for adults or grandparents to play with their kids/grand kids. Since no volcano nearby, no need to fear things going "poof" or disappearing overnight.......
Why is the first comment always a complaint about the Production of the video now? Haha. It is Danny crying out for help?
I was promised FIVE lost cities.... I was told...
Did I miss a chapter?
Calakmul, Elba, Akrotiri, Mohenjo, and Daro... five (5) lost cities.
@@backwashjoe7864mohenjo daro is a single site
You have too many channels you mad man...lol. love them all though.
That indus valley civilisation site is pronounced Mohen jo daro
Just subscribed to all the different channels and have shaved my head but will not ever ever ever grow a well-groomed beard.
Whats the deal with those ceramic cacti behind you? Those are dope.
I was going to rediscover some lost cities-- but then things got really busy at work.
The worst part about these and many other lost cities is they are in an area rife with nonsense. I think if that region could find shade they'd be better off. Lots of constant sun.
I just want to ask how that tree is growing ON the steps of structure 2, not through the steps but on top of them with no soil.
Roots. Don't underestimate the roots. Seriously.
And the award for person with a name most like a Doctor Who villain goes to... @8:49
I would guess that the number of viewers minus the number of complainants re. the background music equals the number of viewers who don't mind or do appreciate the music. It certainly adds to the professionalism of the production.
No mention of Troy?
5:45, you said Ebla.
Which is correct.
Have you covered the Clovis people?
Oh Simon 😭 life insurance 😭 I understood the underwear, the grow hair, the stupid game apps, the shoes, the breakfast cereals, the education video providers, the internet protection apps…. Etc 🤔
does this mean you’re dieing?
Please turn down the Volume on the back ground mood music 😡
It sounds fine to me ?
What background music? I can't hear anything over this relentless tinnitus
@williamdegener same here 😂😂😂
You’re fine
Fix your sounds settings everything is balanced here
The Yucatan Peninsula is in Mexico, which is geographically North America, thank you.
How about not turning up the volume during the commercial.. you could use a marching band instead..
Dial back the posh a bit and i might enjoy the next one
Ebla.. Ebla.. Elba.. Ebla.. Elba.. El-bow?
I wonder what else we will discover about the past?
Thats unfortunate, caracol from Belize is in the Thumbnail but not in the actual video :/
See, war destroys both present and past and, if you think about it, the future.
Please show us MAPS. We don't need maps so detailed that we can visit the city, but what part of the region the city is located. At 7:10 you show us a map but Elba isn't anywhere on it. ?????
The "snow effect" is bothersome
Hmmmmm COCO POPS HMmmmmmm😊
still waiting for them to find the ancient city of New York far into the future.
Spyridon Marinatos is such a cool fuckin name. Spyridon, damn that is awesome lol
Wait, is it Ebla or, Elba? Simon kept swapping between the two and I don't know if I can trust the title
Ebla.
Weren't there supposed to be five cities?
I really like some of the stories that go unproven, like sailors who had their name on the line, and when you're talking to the king of a country trying to get him to fund your voyage I kinda get exaggerating but you have to still have seen SOMETHING you thought was worth lying about.
Alot of these stories of down-right near impossible alot of them do end up being true, the kraken being colossal squid, rouge waves being actually true.
Part of me just feels like more sailors stories will end up being (partly) true. Not poets or writers stories btw, real sailors stories.
And I've heard alot of good ones.
I wonder if they ever uncovered Vilcabamba in A America. The holdout of the last Inca king Tupac Amaru.
ok, but it's called Tikal, not Tikalas.
Source: I'm an offended Guatemalan 🤣
Will Atlantis and El Dorado ever be found?
Surprised at the pronunciation ‘Ree search’.
No way
That background music noise is terribly distracting.
South American native to Gringo explorer: You want to see a bunch of old buildings?
Gringo: that'd be cool.
Gringo: I found a lost city! Look everyone a lost city!
South American native: ???? dude, it wasn't lost, we just had no reason to go there.
Gringo: Ignore this little mutton head. No ones seen this city for centuries!
.75 speed for a better experience.
Anyone who has searched for lost cities was ridiculed and called conspiracy theorist. Now the guy who calls others conspiracy theorist is talking about the same cities that used to be only fantasy.
You can use less fake dust, thanks.
That's cocaine, mate
The cognitive dissonance of the writers (and host) here is amazing. I have watched many episodes where they just laugh and mock people for searching for places like Atlantis, and hear them say that it's "just a story." Well, what about these 5 examples. They were abandoned, 'forgotten to time' (your words), and relegated to story.
Until they were found again.
Now I'm not saying that places like Atlantis and El Dorado are actually real, but I am saying that the mockery and degradation of the people who do believe in them is misplaced. Just because it hasn't been found yet doesn't mean they did exist.
The difference is that Atlantis is known to be fictional(El Dorado, too). We have the record of its first mention in Plato's dialogue, "Critias," as well as his descriptions of its exact location, size, and layout. Aside from the fact we recognize Atlantis as an allegorical storytelling device thought up by Plato(especially as he had a history of doing the exact same thing in other dialogues), we have known for centuries that there is no island where Plato said Atlantis to be located, and for decades that there is no evidence of such having ever existed.
Many of these lost cities were just that: lost. Either no record of them survives to the modern day, or that record is vague and muddled, with an ill-defined location. It's only with a mix of careful study and more modern technology and surveying techniques that we've been able to uncover so many such lost sites.
I will concede that the scientific establishment has, at times, brushed off or openly mocked claims about ancient sites, especially claims from indigenous peoples, only for said sites to later be discovered. However, that does not equivocate places like Atlantis with these real world locations.
When people still steadfastly hold firm to beliefs that not only have no evidence to support them, and which actually have evidence to the contrary, they open themselves up to ridicule. Do I think they deserve ridicule? As long as they do no harm, no. But I also do not believe they should be immune from it.
hittite
Hittite actually, not hittite.
What happened?
there are citys on the dark side of moon.
Music levels too loud, unwatchable
"ahhh-when"

How did a civilization more than 4,500 years ago trade with people of modern Iraq and Iran? Seems like the saying 'on a alow boat drom China' has a whole new meaning. Anyting that takes 4,500 years to trade is unlikely to be very profitable. I guess the proceeds of this trade would be realized in 6523 AD. Seems a bad decision. I would have found trading partners that existed at least in the same decade as me. But those acient civilizations must have been a lot more patient than i am.
Does anyone else struggle to hear the words over the music in many parts of the video?
I've noticed this in several videos on Simon channels lately.
The background music needs to be tuned down a few notches on many of them.
I suggest you should sort out audio settings because i can barely hear background music.
I agree. Audio mix is off.
Yes
@@deadzio Definitely not going to stop work and change my audio settings for a single RUclips video.
Campeesh?
Technically rediscovering something would only be possible if it was lost, then discovered at some point, then lost again. The first time it was built and used there was no discovery involved.
Finally. A positive episode. Most of Simon’s stuff has been so focused on the negative I’ve almost I unsubbed from all his channels…
Besides excavations by rebels, nearby villagers also began digging at the Ebla site with the aim of finding and looting artifacts; some villagers removed carloads of soil suitable for making ceramic liners for bread-baking ovens from the tunnels.
The site was captured by the Syrian Armed Forces on 30 January 2020 during the 5th Northwestern Syria offensive, along with surrounding villages.

0:37 Mexico is NORTH America not Central 😡
Calakmul is minutes from the border of Guatemala (Central America)
Continents are man made ideas a weird thing to get mad over imaginary borders when u wouldnt even be able to tell when u left n.america and enter central.
Struggling to hear you buddy over the music
More speed talking and background audio pollution.
There was that is that noticed cities by constellations and found a city
hunh?
@@kitefan1 I think it was the mayan(think i spelled that wrong) i believe it was the mayan it was several years ago. but in south america. There is a city built at a point to make a specific constellation on the ground. They found a city in every location and this kid noticed that is almost formed a specific constellation. He pointed out there should be one more. When they scanned with satellites there it was. They just have not got to it yet since its deep in the amazon.
Thanks! @@christopherconkright1317 😀
Its pronounced Mohan-Jo-Daro😂
You have all these stories about ghost towns without explenation .
What if the answer is easy and the same problem we see today?
Life get's better , people becomme more individual , have less or no childeren , population declines and ages .
(Just opinion)
wow 1\4 of this episode is brought to you by adds.
I pay for YT premium and got exactly 1 about life insurance.
@@Loralanthalas That $13 a month is definitely worth it! You can skip through Simon's ads, but RUclips MAKES you watch their crap unless you pay them.
@@LoralanthalasYou still get ads with Premium?! I was planning on signing up to avoid them!
What in the world happened to the editing on this channel?
Audio was balanced really bad on this one Simon
Excellent discussion! What's with the snowflake effects? Is the new ice age upon us?
The city is on the coastal plan. It is not jungle.
It’s in lowlands of Campeche, deep in the basin jungle
These wee floaty mote things are very annoying, some editor got a new toy ? Apart from that very good
Awesome, shout out to @ucalgaryca go home team.
I thought we had agreed no more reverse snow/dust overlays on the images of the historic places you are presenting. these edits are becoming harder to watch.
