Please explain the down band vs up band. I must have missed that part. I understand they are different but why and whats the reason? Can you switch in the middle of a shot?

Hi Steve, The reason for 2 bands is to give you 2 options to combat interreference along your bore path. You are able to switch mid bore using our 10-2-7 Roll Sequence. If you ever need any assistance with these things, please call us at 1-800-288-3610. Our Customer Support Team can walk you through all these things step-by-step, as needed.

My question is when you select the different frequencys do you always chose the lowest frequency

Good question! The answer is yes, but not always. Some frequencies perform better in certain environments. As a general rule lower frequencies perform best in areas of passive interference, higher frequencies work better in areas of active interference and the mid-range works best for depth. So in some cases you may choose a frequency band that shows slightly more interference than another. For example, if you were drilling under a sidewalk I would almost always program in band 7 on a wideband transmitter. If I were around power lines I would almost always program band 43. Regardless of the band you chose doing some above ground range testing prior to beginning your bore should give you assurance that you have the signal strength needed to complete the project without interruption. Hope this helped! Feel free to call us at 800-288-3610 for additional help.

You guys need to figure out a way to switch frequencies without having to take it out of the head, it hurts production when we jump around alot

You can switch frequencies down hole using the 10-2-7 roll combination just like in the regular F5. If you need help walking through this, call DCI at 800-288-3610, or head to digitrak.com and download the manual.
