Permanence is how long something stays for :), so for example object permanence could be that you are looking at a tree, you know it is there, you can see it. You turning away from this tree does not make it disappear, you're just not looking at it anymore. That is object permanence, somebody not having a good sense of this would possibly think that the tree is gone when the look away, even if we know it can't have gone anywhere :))
