I moved to Oahu in 1982 with nothing but a backpack and a little money. Back then diamond head was all open area with no fees or restrictions. At the top of diamond head there is some WW-2 bunkers with supply rooms that had jail house type barred doors. The supply rooms are all sealed up now but back then they were opened and I moved into one and lived in it for about 4 months. The next week after I got settled on top of diamond head I got a job at a one hour film developing shop in Waikiki. From there I worked on a fishing boat then carpentry. I finally moved away in 2021. Great while it lasted. Aloha, Action Kid
Nice. I lived on Oahu in the early 80’s. We could drive or hike into the caldera any time we wanted. It was not a tourist attraction then. Most people were content with gazing at the iconic profile of Diamond Head from Waikiki or the other tourist areas. There was a gentleman who went there on Sunday mornings to play bagpipes. The place was empty, except for when we went. That was pretty amazing, as you can imagine. It certainly has changed a lot. Thanks for jogging my memory back to that wonderful experience.
Good Morning Roberta, good to know you lived in Oahu. If you read this, can you please tell me how it was. I'm searching for input, since I'm considering moving there. This is just a thought... I live in Florida... Have an awesome day 😊
I enjoyed this drive a lot. You get to see more places and views. I gotta commend you for such smooth driving, hardly any road rage😂 when that explorer was backing up towards you. It's no wonder you are a master of your craft. I have no doubt greater things will come your way, but good to hit the horn when they are backing up without looking 😅😊
11:51 I didn't think you would ever need to tap the horn in Hawaii but voilà! 😆 I didn't realize there's Farmer's Market, nice! 20:12 Cool to see the drive through the tunnel! I remember going there early to hike and didn't have to make a reservation in 2018. Thank you for sharing this drive, AK! 🤗
Howdy Ken, thanks always for your amazing road trip videos. I'm longing to visit Hawaii and have learned so much from you. I share your trips with my daughter who lives in Oahu. She wants to do the Pillbox hiking. One of the things that calls my attention is its' cleanliness.
Did you know that the area around Diamond Head was once a military base? By the way, how can you tell if someone is from Hawai'i? They reverse their car into a parking stall 😊
Your videos have become even more interesting the older u become
Thank u AK❤️

Thank you for the video. Went with my kids last summer but didn’t make it to Diamond Head even though we could see it from the hotel balcony.

24 minutes of traffic. Great tourism video.... What's next, a video of you walking from your room to the front desk?
That would be cool!
Thanks. You just convinced me not to go to Diamond Head.
