Attorney General is appointed by the President on the advice of the government. There are the following qualifications: He should be an Indian Citizen. He must have either completed 5 years in High Court of any Indian state as a judge or 10 years in High Court as an advocate.
Motilal Chimanlal Setalvad (c. 1884 - 1974) was an eminent Indian jurist, who became the first and longest serving Attorney General for India (1950-1963).
Cornelia Sorabji was first women attorney general of India
R. Venkataramani is the incumbent Attorney-General for India. He succeeded to the office as the 16th Attorney-General on 1 October 2022.
