This is the case of the goings on at Palais Garnier, better known as the Paris Opera, Strange incidents have been recorded there. Many people claim they're the work of a ghost, a most famous ghost: the Phantom of the Opera..
Erik's story is soo damn sad! I like to beileve the legend is real that Erik truly existed that is was more than just a story written by a very famous writer!
Ok this is inaccurate, the story of the pianist who got burned certainly inspired Leroux, but it's not related in any way to the plot of the novel. His phantom was a completely fictional man who was born deformed and was an architect who worked under Charles Garnier. The letters to the managers is also entirely unique to the novel, it was not based on a real incident.
@christinedaae7323 If you mean the urban legend about the pianist who got burned, his name was supposedly Ernest (that is to say, if he existed at all). The name "Erik" was likely picked by Leroux, because it sounded exotic to him and I've read that in an earlier draft of the novel he intended the Phantom to be born in Scandinavia.

"Erik is not truly dead. He lives on the souls of those who choose to listen to the music of the night." -- Gaston Leroux
That terribly cheesy quote is not from Leroux.
He never said that!
@@Jayjay-qe6um I have no idea where this quote originates from but it's not from Gaston Leroux.
A good mystery perfect for a midnight watching and goosebumps.
Early access? 🤔. Or are you supernatural 👻

So, The Phantom of the Opera is a real ghost. I knew it! But, was his name real Erik, or, is that a name given to him by a Theater goer?
