I would say it is kind of like your fingernail repeatedly tapping on the screen. So it is not loud once or twice, but it can maybe be annoying for others next to you. You can purchase a tip cover for your Apple Pencil or use other alternative methods if this is a concern for you!
It does make sounds that might be annoying to others if the room is completely quiet. I’ve bought and used pencil cover in class, but it slows down my writing and it is not as smooth :(

It kinda loud if you specially write fast, but I got myself some silicon tip covers and it's cheap and they make no sound while taking notes in class.
