I was in Pakistan and in the tribal areas of both Pakistan and Afghanistan in 1990 .
The culture there is something that you don’t want in your country. Women , children and animals are treated pretty much as property.
When we asked the local man who was guiding us , ‘ Why don’t we see any women? ‘
His response was Women are for babies and men and boys are for fun.
They have dancing boys who are young boys dressed up to dance seductively in a room full of men, afterwards the men will then take the boys and take them to do things that no child should experience.
No point going to the police as they have their own boys, tribal leaders have their own kids as well.
    Women are practically invisible.
I know that things in the West aren’t perfect, but believe me, you don’t want to live under a tribal sixth century law

There was a young Canadian man who served in Afghanistan. He was raised in a small town/rural on the prairies. I remember a quote from his mom who said something like '.. for a man raised in our home to see what he saw over there..".
He saw it and was forbidden to act to right the wrong. To protect little boys..
I think every normal healthy man is traumatized within when having/gaining knowledge of any abuse of little ones. We cope, we suppress, we have biology to help us continue our day.. to hold back tears.. to stifle the gut reaction to act.. to endure the feeling of being impotent in the face of unspeakable evil.

He said Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Yemen. He said men in Yemen wear long knives as a fashion statement, a warning, for utility, for protection, and as a personal statement to the world. They're basically Bowie knives, if you will. A very large knife. And all of them wear it. He said they think they are cool talking about how they'd cut up an enemy. I was a US Marine in Desert Storm stationed aboard a Navy battleship. It worked the opposite way for me. Pulling into port at Dubai and Abu Dhabi separately, I was shocked 😲🤯 at how their citizenry are so much wealthier than Americans.
I felt safer there than I did in the middle-class Sherman Park neighborhood, east of Sherman Blvd. I was raised in.
I'm reared Catholic from the cradle, but fair us fair, the Mohammadans of the UAE, their actual citizens (not Palestinians, nor Hindu Indian workers), have surpassed us by miles even back then, and the USA has plummeted downward below my visit to "3rd World" Tijuana, Mexico in the early 1990s, parts of the USA like Kensington in Philadelphia are now the 4th World.
The UAE was super safe, clean, a built up gem 💎 in the desert 🏜️🏝️, and the Mohammadans there though morally conservative were civilized in contrast to much of urban USA post 1950s which sprawling concrete jungles of roaming barbarians or urban predators.
If Afghanistan is an F grade level country, then talk of "low expectations" when Americans only raise their civilization bar up to a D grade level yet want to be included in A grade level countries like oh say... Japan, the UAE, Austria, and Hungary.

"Afghanistan does not fully meet the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking and, even considering the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on its anti-trafficking capacity, if any, is not making significant efforts to do so; therefore Afghanistan remained on Tier 3. During the reporting period, there was a pattern of employing or recruiting child soldiers and a pattern of sexual slavery by the Taliban (bacha bazi - a practice in which men exploit boys for social and sexual entertainment). The Taliban did not make efforts to address labor trafficking and sex trafficking, nor did they identify or protect any trafficking victims or make any efforts to prevent trafficking. The Taliban continued to undermine the rights of women and members of minority groups, and other vulnerable populations, and hindered the work of NGOs, further exacerbating vulnerabilities to trafficking and obstructing the protection of victims."

This is one of the biggest blunders. I knew someone who spent a lot of time in Afghanistan prior to 2001, and got to know the locals very well. He has always been unequivocal about the fact that what the Talibans and other local "leaders" do with boys is absolutely not something that ordinary Afghans are okay with, it's not part of their "culture". It's a horrific "tax" that those in charge impose on the people. Somehow, the US military got fooled into thinking or accepting that that was some sort of cultural practice that had to be tolerated, which is probably one of the major reasons why the Afghans were never able to be convinced that the US military was there to help them, because they wouldn't even do anything about the Taliban's most blatant and horrific practice.
