Oh my Lordie girl!!! How you are talking to me, to my heart and to my fears. I have been “learning by watching” and prepping by gathering supplies for months and I have gotten myself “stuck”!! Your words spoke straight to me today! Just do it, it’s for me, nobody sees and it’s all for learning and joy. Ok….I will start ❤️🥰 Thank you @Barbara!
Wow, I don’t think there is any style that you couldn’t put together and make it all look stunning. Amazing! And I can’t wait to see you work your magic on those lovely old papers and create the signatures. Thank you, I don’t think we could ever hear enough that we need to cut ourselves a break and see mistakes as part of the learning and the practice needed to keep growing! 🤗❤️ Tamara
Thank you for posting this today. You saved me from watching the devastating footage of the earthquake in Turkey. I needed something uplifting. Love this cover and thank you for listening to me as I was telling you which lace to use! 😂 Can't wait for the next installment.
Love the idea of the panel in front ❤ it’s looking beautiful ! It took me 6 months before I made my first journal 😂😂 I just kept watching everyone else!
I’m new to JJ. I scrapbooked for 10 years. Right now I’m buying a lot of products; thanks to Amazon, Michael’s, Etsy, and thrift stores 😂. I am also watching and subscribing to a lot of artists. You are one of my favorites. I’m learning so much. I am making ephemera and starting a practice binder of ideas before I tackle a real journal 📓 ❤😊
I began making junk journals 3 years ago. My first journal was not terrible, just different than what I make now. Journals don’t have to be perfect, that is why I love this craft. Mistakes can always be fixed. I encourage anyone who has never tried to make a junk journal to give it a try. It is so fun and enjoyable.
I made my first journal about half a year ago. I found junk journaling in RUclips and almost immediately made my own journal. It's not perfect, but I still proud of myself for being so brave to try to made it with so little knowledge about it! and I can see my progress in each page. Even my style has changed within these few months! And I still completely in love with my journal, even though it's not perfect at all ❤️ Thank you, Barbara. Because you were my inspiration as well
My first journal was done arround 8 or 9 years! It is so horrible but at the same time so beautiful! Haha. I love it so much. It is like you say, every journal is different. The ones you do with "do what you like and love" better than "what will be beautiful" are always going to be the best loved and cherished. 😀
I Love the panel you created. It would also be great on an old book cover you love, don't want to cover, but want something more "artsy" . More please. 🥰🥰
This was double goodness for me as I was just trying to make my first hard cover journal but was unsure how to do the spine and there you were doing just what I needed! How perfect. I have only ventured to make a couple of soft cover junk journals and I roll my eyes each time I look at them but you are so right about just having fun and learning as you go. I certainly am. Can’t wait to see what you do next in this vintage journal.
I ordered a kit from Shariqa, super excited to get it. (I just love all your videos!) I have made my own journals however not one with a hard cover from scratch. I’ll try it out when the kit arrives. Thank you for ALL the videos!💙
I'm still very much 'a beginner' - having only made 4 journals to date - 3 of which I am still working on/in. And I have to say, I am astounded at how far I have come. My first completed journal was so 'simple' in comparison to what I am doing now - especially in terms of layering and texture. Part of the 'progress' is because I have been slowly building up my equipment and supplies (i.e. stencils, handmade stamps, and a variety of inks etc.). Another factor is that I have gained knowledge just from making many mistakes! But a great deal of the overall improvement comes from the fact that I have learnt soooo much from watching you and Luise - especially when it comes to techniques, and saying 'it's ok - it's my Junk Journal and there are no rules'. 'Thank you' isn't really enough, but it is sincere. 💚💚💚
Dear Barbara,I love how you always save your challenges, eg the yellow showing through the fabric. I believe a coat of white gesso on the cardboard could have prevented the see thru. I can’t wait to see the rest of this project! Thank you for all the inspiration! ❤️🤗🤩🥰😍😘
Barbara, the panel is such a genius idea. I have never seen the hidden binding done. However, by your description, I think I can do it. The photo is so beautiful. I am glad you selected it. The feathers are so pretty too. I imagine her having a treasure box. Love letters, her feathers and other items locked with key.
Great Vidéo barbara. As usual. I confirm that the letter that you put on teh back of the panel is a letter from a woman. Renée is a female firstname, male one would be René. Also she indeed write to her fiancé
Hey newbie here, I started watching you and a few others about 9months ago and 4months I began my own junk journal journey. I started with a cereal box, some wool, napkins I found in the pound shop and an old pair of jeans 👖 😂 and I found my passion for sure, my kitchen now looks like a paper factory/charity shop/nursery school! Im obsessed and I craft every single day even if it’s only an hour. Since that first floppy woolly flappy attempt I’m now on to my 4th journal 📓. I have next to no equipment but I manage and im slowly building my stash by hitting the charity shops and second hand sales! Can’t thank you all enough for putting out these videos that inspired me into this new wonder that is helping me heal everyday by focussing my energy into things that warm my heart and inspire my thoughts ❤❤❤
@@49dragonflies honestly thank you so much Barbara. I’ve not had the best of it lately and finding this new passion has helped me in so many ways and if it wasn’t for you guys putting out this content I may have never known about junk journaling at all. I’m forever grateful 🥹 to you guys. Plus the whole community is so loving, kind and everyone is willing to offer advice and encouragement to each other. It’s really wonderful. Wishing you a wonderful weekend lovely lady 🙏✨🥰
I am making my first junk journal. I used a stuffing mix box and made my signature pages with some papers that I think were not heavy enough. I also used some Christmas cards. I sewed them into the stuffing box cover. I have really learned a lot by just trying things. This was all because of you and Luise's Dephemerember that I found by accident and started watching. I make a big mess but its so fun.
I made my first "journal" in November, it's actually a commonplace book and it's absolutely horrible but I still use it and have so many plans running through my head for future projects. My style is more like where you started, (pink and white). I don't think I'm ready to go grungy, I want pretty, lol. Blessings, Donna
Even with the duplicates, those goody bags are just fabulous. What a great assortment of vintage yumminess. You are so right about getting over the intimidation of perfection and just start making that first journal. I have been watching videos for over two years and just started my first journal last week. It is large and will be a project that may last all year, but it’s fun and exciting to have finally begun.
Thanks for this video - I really enjoyed it (and the first one, too). Love the way you talk to those of us who are not experienced and still learning every day. Looking forward to the next one. And many thanks to Shariqa for this challenge!
My first journals were made out of cereal boxes & hold my ephemera. After a few years, I now prefer soft covers. I use "10x13 Clasp Gummed Envelopes" for my covers. Right now I'm making one that I want to use to journal every day in it, so needs lots of blank spaces!! Thanks for all of your videos & encouragement!
Hello Barbara, this is going to be an awesome journal when done. The papers are so yummy and with the added coffee, just perfect. You really do inspire me constantly, and everytime I watch you, my heart smiles. Looking forward to going further into our wonderful adventure. Blessings and hugs, as always, from Cape Town Diana 😀🤗🦊🦊
Hi Barbara, your words really resonated with me because I make lots of embellishments, tags etc but I didn't have a journal to put them in or even any pages for signatures. I decided to coffee stain some ordinary copy paper & just start. Thank you.
Hi Barbara, from Austria. I am from eastern NC, USA. Started making journals in 2020. My 1st was a Christmas journal, pretty good. Next was a complete failure (haha). Love your channel.
I have finished my first journal complete. I did an Alice in Wonderland theme for a friend. I did end up with quite a big Alligator opening. double the size of the spine...lol...I love the idea of making my signatures then the cover. Thanks for sharing your process.
Oh no!!! 34 minutes and 45 seconds is over already!! It can’t be true!! Lol. I’m enjoying this challenge you’re doing with Sharika. I loved these packages she sent you so much, I signed up for the large package subscription. I’m so excited! Watching this and thinking back to my first couple of Journals… oh my! My first two Journals were made for friends. What was I thinking. Lol. The first Journal was a mess. I made 3 covers. I just set aside my 1st two attempts. Didn’t throw them away because they might be useful on another day. I learned so much on that Journal. My second one was just as big a challenge on the cover as the first. My friends that received these absolutely loved them! Of course I didn’t point out things that went wrong! Lol. The 3rd one was for me. I didn’t have to be too picky about the cover. Made a few mistakes. Fixed the things I couldn’t live with and embraced the other errors that gave me joy. The journal that’s made from true junk is the one that made me happiest. ♥️♥️♥️ Can’t wait to see more of this series.
That’s awesome. I’m so happy you are enjoying exploring different types of journals and learning what you love! I’m sure you will love Shariqa’s goodies! ❤️😃
I just began to junk journal about 6 weeks ago and my first one was not very good. I have made several since then and they DO get better!!! The last one or two were not terrible! Many thanks to you and Luise Heinzl for your ideas and instruction.
Beautiful cover; I'm glad you chose the creamier lace with the sharper edging because I think it work well with the lady's apparel in the photo. Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks with us; I so appreciate your honesty too.
Barbara: beautiful start on creating a journal. The cover does say: open me to find out about my love story. I enjoy watching you put a journal together. However, if I could have warned you, I would have said, that yellow is probably going to bleed through the white ground color of the fabric. I, too, learned the hard way many years ago. Lesson learned. Carol from California
G'day Barbara . I've been making Junk Journals for a year now. I've made 5 so far ( I work full time so it's just a hobby). 3 of them I've made as gifts. And I'm about to begin another . I just looove this cover you made. It's very much my style.
I made my 1st journal Nov ‘22 which consisted of family history & inspiration to help the recipient to journal them self. It was 5 signatures & turned into a very chunky monkey. I am now trying to make 2 journals out of photo books that have very large pockets. I wanted to put pockets on to outside of each of the photo pocketed but am having a problem adhering them so they stay fixed. I guess I could sew them on…. Anyway once started the dam has broken & I am on my creative journey.
Baby girl, this is GREAT!! My girlfriend, also kind of a daughter 😅, is going to Africa on a missions trip in March and we're gonna be making a journal for her to keep all her STUFF in. How did you know that this is what we needed??!!?? We'll be following along for sure. Love you, angel, MomK ❤️🤗🌵🤗❤️
This is the best advise: JUST DO IT. I am on year #4 of making journals & have used the good ones & the "bad" ones & torn apart some that I no longer liked. I think that is what makes this craft so interesting & fun.
Oooh I've recently gotten brave and torn apart and repurposed some "bad" things I made. It was hard at first, but now I'm much happier than having something sit around that I wasn't happy with and now I like the new version much better
I started doing Art Journals before Junk Journaling - I was very unhappy with my Art - I cut it up and now use it for collaging in my junk journals- great reminders of how far I have come and how my style has evolved. Love this cover, excited to see whats next.
I really enjoy watching and listening to you as you create. I love this challenge that your friend, Shariqa, has set out for you. I especially love it because I have a lot of vintage papers that I can't bring myself to do anything with, so with your example in front of me maybe I will be courageous enough to start. I have made lots and lots of journals - junk and otherwise - and they are all stored away in boxes. I never feel they are good enough to give away. As I watch you with the vintage haul that Shariqa sent you, I am sorting through my stash - sorting helps me see what I have to work with and also delays having to make some decisions . . . ha! I am looking forward to your next steps and hope I can work along with you!
Good Morning Barbara, l made my very first Soft Cover Journal for Junk Journal January, inspired by you. And because l wanted it to look a bit like one of yours, l stamped the cover all over with butterflies and dragonflies. It looks better than expected. Now l am busy filling the signatures with various projects and by trying out new techniques. Some l like, some l don’t - but l am enjoying the processes and learning lots as l go. Thank you for sharing your ideas and thoughts. Have a beautiful day, Barbara 🇦🇺
Looks good so far; however, I agree with Rebecca in it needing something wider and with a little color for the closure. A ribbon maybe with some of the lace sewn down the center of the ribbon. Can’t wait to see the next video. 😊
Hi... Congrats on your channels growth... I used to watch your ooold journal with me videos... I felt they were more simple n my style kinda .. I don usually follow now coz im not mixed media person.... But your old book journal are one of my go tos for a tutorial.... Best wishes
Hi there!!! I have been working hard while watching all of your videos making my own journals.... Since I won your journal from the collaboration, I have made 7 journals and 2 ephemera folios.... Keep up the great work!!! Your friend, Marcie Kemzuro ❤️❤️❤️
That panel is wonderful! Good tip about testing out matte medium on a scrap first! I may have smeared a few things in the past, so glad you didn’t spoil that amazing letter! I love how you use fabric for the spine cover-so clever and talented. My first jj is far from perfect, but I love it because it seemed miraculous that I actually made it.😂😂
I recently looked at pictures of my first journals, boy has my style changed. Thank you always for the encouraging words. This cover looks beautiful. Can wait to see the rest
I have watched & saved many of your videos - I haven't jet dared to make a junk journal, I have my whole studio full of stuff - I'm a hoarder like many of us are. I am working with Finnabair products ate the moment & I'm taking lessons from Anna Dabrowska - both working with cluster art, using metal & paper & of course the items from moulds etc. This is the second time I'm watching this video & I will try to "copy" yours (in my own way I mean) - I do have beautiful postcards & tea colored paper I made a while ago - what I don't have are these wonderful handwritten vintage letters. They are amazing. Watching your videos, listening to you & learning from Anna that it's okey to "f up"/make mistakes, I'll at least try start to make what you have done in this video. Thank you so much for your wonderful junk journaling, I enjoy watching you making your piece of art, you're very talented. I'm looking forward to see the rest of how to make the signatures & so on. ❤💯
I bought my Crop - A - Dile over 10 years ago, it still works perfectly the only problem is my husband is always pinching it! He loves how it goes through hard things like a knife through butter (his words!) Beautiful cover Barbara, I can't wait to see what you do next💜
I did not make my first journal, like you I have come a long way from Practice!! But going back to those first ones is just as important to see how far you have grown!!!! You are right, we make mistakes, but like you said so much fun!!!!
Ok….I will start ❤️🥰
Thank you @Barbara!
Yay! You go, girl! You got this! 😃😊❤️
It’s so nice to see one using original papers rather then digitals! I do love originals so much❤.
Thanks for helping me with that decision! ☺️❤️
Love the idea of the panel in front ❤ it’s looking beautiful ! It took me 6 months before I made my first journal 😂😂 I just kept watching everyone else!
Love it. So nice seeing you making a journal again

Beautiful, Barbara. I always learn something new when I watch you. 😊
Love it! love how you fix things when a mistake happens🤭😄😉
AMAZING! Thank you and looking forward to the next episode!!! -Nancy❤
Beautiful!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Barbara 💓
Loving it so far! TFS 💕

Hi Barbara, it's looking great - I really like this style. Looking forward to the next video for this journal. 🌸xx
Barbara, I just love this cover. And yes,, there's always a way to make it yours. 🥰
Tolle Lösung - das doppelte Cover!!😍😍
I Love the panel you created. It would also be great on an old book cover you love, don't want to cover, but want something more "artsy" . More please. 🥰🥰
Always an inspiration, so enjoying watching you create and problem solve. Hugs from down under ( Australia ).

Awesome, have fun! 😃❤️
Yes, that would have been a great solution! 👍🏻😃❤️
Thank you! ❤
Love how you did the cover 😍❤️ TFS 😘😘😘😘😘🇨🇦
Barbara, the panel is such a genius idea. I have never seen the hidden binding done. However, by your description, I think I can do it. The photo is so beautiful. I am glad you selected it. The feathers are so pretty too. I imagine her having a treasure box. Love letters, her feathers and other items locked with key.
Thanks! I love the idea of her having a treasure box! ❤️😊
Great Vidéo barbara. As usual. I confirm that the letter that you put on teh back of the panel is a letter from a woman. Renée is a female firstname, male one would be René. Also she indeed write to her fiancé
Very creative!
Barbara love the cover and I know the journal will be beautiful.
Yes getting started is tough. I've just started any alter book after watch for just under a year. Having so much fun. Thank you for all your support.
Love everything about the panel...the photo, the letters, the lace, the feathers, the key!! 💙🗝
I love your 'can-do' attitude regardless of what happens, Barbara. It's a great habit to develop. Thanks! Hazel
Hallo barbara Love what you did with the cover by making another cover, I would never have thought of that. Looking forward to your next video 🤗
Love this. I’ve never seen a front panel done before It’s a fun solution and interactive as well.
I am so new to junk journaling, I have not actually started yet. I am gathering courage and this video has inspired me to try… thank you 😊

What a beautiful cover and panel! I love making the covers because it is like wrapping the journal as if it is a precious gift. And it really is!💝🍀
I love how you sewed the key on! I never would have thought to do that. I struggle with 3D embellishments but now I can sew them on!
Hallt this was helpful! ☺️❤️
Hello Barbara, what a beautiful start to the journal, the cover is looking wonderful. TFS
Very nice cover! 💙
Thank you for your comments. You are very inspiring 🩷
I learn as you say with each journal, mostly because watching people like you, helps. Thank you

I love the idea of having two covers, Barbara. Definitely want to try that myself. Thanks for the inspiration!
Achja, und dein Journal verspricht wieder eine Schönheit zu werden ❤️
Love it🤩
Gorgeous start! Always fun to watch you do a challenge! Loved the 50tags! Can’t wait to see what’s next.
what a wonderful idea - this looks very pretty Barbara - thank you xx
I absolutely love the cover sweetie. That photo is much prettier than the cover you were supposed to use, I agree 💕 looking forward to the next part
Thanks sweetie! Your colors! 😃❤️

Very interesting...pretty....creative....it would be way out of my comfort zone.....Great start...😻
What a sweet idea! Have fun! 😃❤️
Barbara great advice and tutorial. Always learning something new from you. You have a charismatic personality and super cute laugh!💜💜💜
🤭❤️
This is the best advise: JUST DO IT. I am on year #4 of making journals & have used the good ones & the "bad" ones & torn apart some that I no longer liked. I think that is what makes this craft so interesting & fun.
So true! ❤️
Oooh I've recently gotten brave and torn apart and repurposed some "bad" things I made. It was hard at first, but now I'm much happier than having something sit around that I wasn't happy with and now I like the new version much better
@@julia_l-c Good for you! Its so true. After storing journals I didn't use I decided to make them into something I would use. 😃
I started doing Art Journals before Junk Journaling - I was very unhappy with my Art - I cut it up and now use it for collaging in my junk journals- great reminders of how far I have come and how my style has evolved.
Love this cover, excited to see whats next.
Oh my stars love this cover❣❣❣ I have 2 journals I've made and now I can change them up and love them again❣
Perfect! 😃❤️
You can do it! 💪🏼😊❤️
I have just made made my first paper bag journal, I used a blue Jeans cover. I love it.
Awesome! 👍🏻😃❤️
Fabulous and so inspiring.
Have a beautiful day,
Barbara 🇦🇺
That sounds fabulous! 😃👍🏻❤️

Wonderful! 😃👍🏻❤️
That panel is wonderful! Good tip about testing out matte medium on a scrap first! I may have smeared a few things in the past, so glad you didn’t spoil that amazing letter!
I love how you use fabric for the spine cover-so clever and talented.
My first jj is far from perfect, but I love it because it seemed miraculous that I actually made it.😂😂
Herzlichen Dank, liebe Nicole! ❤️
Traumhaft schöne Inspiration...mein 3tes JJ kann kommen! Gorgeous! LG Franziska aus Duisburg
Thanks so much for your kind feedback! Have fun with this! 😊❤️
This cover turned out so beautifully! Thank you! 😊 ❤️
