Wow! Didn't know there was a rail trail here! I have been going to Lake Eppalock for years! Never knew this. Well i'll definitely be doing this one as well and enjoying it! Thanks heaps for sharing again mate!

Thanks for putting these up Erik, much appreciated. I did the Timboon to Camerdown last weekend (Return) with my wife. It was your video that made me want to do it, so cheers.

Thanks, that's great! How nice are all those old bridges on the way to Timboon... I love Rail Trails so I thought it'd be great to try to spread the word a bit. I'm working on making videos of all the rail trails in Victoria but it'll probably take a while 😆

      @@erikekdahl6233 - Hi Eric,
I refrained from commenting earlier because I was going to make another account with my own rail trail and bike path videos on it. This account is old and I want to delete it.
Anyway, lack of time always beats me and I haven't even got my Action Camera yet. (I'll get there eventually)
I'm relatively new to cycling, this is about my 2nd year, and I'm 54. So not young.....but like you, I love the rail trails! I have always ridden motorbikes, and it’s the getting out in the bush that I enjoy these days.
I've done *The Bellarine Rail Trail* with my wife and really enjoyed that. They day we went just happened to be the weekend of the music festival. We had no idea, but there were thousands of people at Queenscliff and it had a great atmosphere to it. We explored Queenscliff and rode around the beach on the bike paths. It ended up being a long ride though.
The next one we did was *The Lilydale To Warburton Rail Trail* Once again, it was a great day and I think my favourite Rail Trail so far. It was a hot day though (34C) so it was a struggle in the open paddock parts. Warburton was beautiful and we had lunch along the river. I'd driven through there so many times and had never stopped to look around.
I quickly followed that up with the *Ballarat to Skipton Rail Trail*
I did this one solo as my wife wouldn't be able to do that distance. I like riding alone, and enjoyed that ride until I suffered from leg cramps on the way back. It worried me, I couldn’t stop them and I couldn’t ride or walk. Eventually they stopped after about 2hrs and I was able to ride again. I'm so glad I took lights, because I ended up riding in the dark for about an hour, maybe more. I’m going to do this one again soon, because I wasn’t happy about the leg cramps which happened at the 70km mark, I’ve ridden over 100km many times without any problems. I’ll beat it next time.
In January we did *Beechworth to Bright* with another 2 couples. Originally we were going to do it last year making it a 3 night holiday. Starting at Wangaratta to Beechworth, then to Myrtleford.....onto Bright. Bushfires stopped us from going.
After watching your video, I realised it was a long climb going up to Beechworth and I better do some more research. I wasn’t worried so much for me, but others in the group might have struggled. (I would've struggled too, but I like a challenge)
As it turns out, it was a hard getting accommodation anyway, so left out the Wangaratta to Beechworth section, and rode from Beechworth to Myrtleford, then the following day we rode to Bright and stayed the night again.
I loved the downhill from Beechworth, but I can't remember that much about the rest of it because we were talking all the time. If we talked less and concentrated on what we were doing, we wouldn’t have missed the Everton turn off and rode towards Wangaratta for over 6km! Obviously, we had to double back. Not good on a 30C day, and we only saw the funny side after a few drinks. We stopped at Gapstead Winery and that was a great afternoon. Well deserved after our 12km detour. Myrtleford should not have been 64km's from Beechworth....lol
The next day was an easy 30km ride to Bright, and the river at Bright was packed because it was around 30C again. Bright was beautiful, and we had a great time there riding around the river. We didn't ride back to Beechworth though, we got Bus A Bike back to our cars in the morning.
That was one of the best weekends I've ever had, period. I picked up your tip about going around the river in Myrtleford rather than down the main street from your video. So thanks for that. I do research my rides, but I might have missed that tip. 2 people from our group got up early in the morning and went for a jog down that track.
I then saw your *Timboon to Camperdown Rail Trail* ride and just had to do it. I showed my wife, and she said "Yep, let’s do it"
So we did that last weekend. The Trestle Bridge section was just amazing and we spent a lot of time going through there and taking photos and exploring paths.
Actually, we spent too much time there, because as we were riding through the Golf course in Cobden, I had to suggest to my wife that we skip the last 6km and go back so that we could make the ice cream shop. For some reason, it closes at 5pm.
We took our own lunch and ate on the Golf course. I always take sandwiches, but if I find a nice cafe, then I buy food.
That first section was amazing, and we will be going back for sure. I found little swimming holes that you probably saw as well. We loved Timboon, what a beautiful little town.
I'm in Hoppers Crossing, so I was locked down during Covid and couldn’t get out and do any Rail Trails. At one stage, we had a 5km radius restriction as you probably know, but I still managed to do 30km rides without breaking the rules to keep my bike fitness up. (I assume you are not in Melbourne because you were able to do the Rail Trails during our lockdowns)
My wife doesn’t ride as much as me, so she does struggle on the long rides. I think I’ll do the Bendigo one by myself and then start doing the longer rides with a Hotel in the middle so my wife can come.
I didn’t think I’d enjoy staying in Hotels/Motels with the bikes, but it was actually really good. We put both bikes in the rooms at night.
We managed to fit in enough clothes for our 2 night stay, including toiletries. Because it was warm weather, it was shorts, jocks and t-shirts and a little fold up raincoat just in case. We only have the one set of panniers between us, and its one side each and share the centre. Not very large panniers either, just the Topeak MTX panniers that fold up.
Normally I use the panniers to carry water, and lots of it, but I had to settle for two little 600ml bottles from Coles tucked in amongst the cloths and stopping in towns. It worked out well for the Beechworth to Bright ride.
Sorry about the very long comment, I just wanted to give you some feedback of what others are doing on virtually the same rides.
      Thanks again for you videos!

@@gjw45 Hi, Actually I live in Werribee so same area, the only trail I got to ride during the middle of last year was the Murray to Mountains in that short window between the 1st and 2nd waves when things opened up a little, when we were limited to 5km I just rode up and down the Werribee river trail and lollypop creek trail just for exercise, did Bellarine and Timboon after the ring of steel came down and Bendigo was just Tuesday last week. Now thinking about Great Victorian or Great Southern rail trails next. Depends on how my work schedule matches the weather.

@@erikekdahl6233 - Werribee? I can't believe that, what a small world. As for the lock-downs, I must've mixed your dates up with other people. We did have a small window there, but for some reason I couldn't do the Rail Trails. Thinking back, I'm pretty sure I got stuck catching up with family and birthdays etc.
Before Covid, I used to do Werribee River at least once a week. In Winter, it was always a night ride for me. I would do it as a loop, riding up Hogan's road to the start of the path, then coming back home on the Federation Trail. I really don't like riding on the road these days, it's all good until you get some idiot in a car. So I've only done it once recently, and have seen the new park section. (No more climbing the stairs)
I couldn't decide where to go last weekend, and made a last minute decision to drive to Westerfolds Park and do the "Main Yarra Trail"
It was a such a great ride, it had a bit of everything in it, including a few more hill climbs than what I was expecting. I'm not that good with navigation, and the signs going into Melbourne didn't seem to exist where you needed them, so I got lost a few times. It's the type of ride that once you do it once, you really do not need directions.
I absolutely loved the ride, and can't wait to do it again. I think it was meant to be a 66km round trip, but I ended up doing just over 80km. But that's me getting lost and exploring other tracks, I can't help myself.
You have probably already done the ride, but it was all new to me. I want my wife to come next time, so I'll do it one way. I think we will catch the train to Flinders St, then end the ride at the closest train station to Westerfolds Park. I normally drive to all my rides and sometimes parking is an issues, so I'm keen on taking the train!
Yes, the Great Victorian or Great Southern rail trails look good, but are long ones. My wife and I were going to do them with a hotel thrown in. But matching work, weather and time is a balancing act. Do you always ride alone?

@@gjw45 I do that exact loop of Werribee river trail/Federation trail/Hogan's road, we've probably passed each other out there.
Most of the time I do ride alone, especially if I'm making a video because I'm stopping all the time taking pictures and videos. Also I ride to the City and airport a lot using Fed and western ring just using the bike as transportation.

Hi. Just a comment to say that if you had ridden the O'keefe trail in 2011 you would have seen the Campaspe in flood and Eppalock full and overflowing.

Yes I've seen the pictures, it's a shame I missed it but one day it'll happen again and I'll make sure to be there for it.
