  • (10-16-2013) I should have uploaded this earlier however I disclosed some very personal information in this video which has since become public and I feel this may be helpful to some people. Also it was this day as I realized why I am keeping my youtube channel going as at the time I was considering shutting it down. Enjoy as I give a speech at an autism support group in Dallas TX. FEEL FREE to ask questions in the comments. The camera cut off at 30 mins however i was wrapping up anyway. DieselDucy Elevator Shirts and stuff! www.cafepress.c...

I have had some challenges in my life too. You and Gluse were the two that inspired me to start filming elevators but I eventually decided to make my channel in January of this year because of you and Alex.

Nice story! I’m autistic and like elevators too. Been watching your channel since 2015. I did pretty well in school for the most part, but I used to procrastinate with bigger projects. Lol. I had a hard time connecting with my classmates, most likely because I knew I was different. I still struggle with connecting with people to be honest. I kept quiet about elevators and stuff like that because I knew people wouldn’t be interested, or I’d get bullied. Before I discovered your channel, I knew I liked elevators. I just didn’t take the time to figure out why I like them. I was immediately hooked when I first found your channel. I was 11 at the time. Fast forward to 7th grade, I’m still watching your videos at the time. I learned that year how nasty people can be to autistic people. I’ve always tried hiding my autism, but that year was when I tried even harder. Then starting in 8th grade, I got to the point where I tried making myself nonexistent. I did that all throughout high school too. I came home from school every day exhausted from hiding my autism all day. I graduated high school this past June and no one knew I like elevators and I watch your videos. Now I’m 19 and work a boring job and I don’t know what I’m gonna do with my life. Lol. Throughout the years I’ve been watching your videos, I finally found out why I like elevators. I’ve learned so much about them too. Your videos are also how I found out that there are more people like me who like elevators. I thought I was alone. I would film elevators too, but I’m afraid I would get busted like you did at the Campbell Court. I’m also into car washes. I recently started my basic channel and started making my own car wash videos. Filming car washes seems much easier than elevators. Anyway, thank you so much for what you do!

Excellent job sharing your story's I'm sure it has inspired and will continue to inspire lots of people. I have autism as well and I did face similar troubles in school, I had gotten picked on since pre-K, although I've never hit any pets, always loved them, always will, but problems otherwise progressed until the 3rd grade when I started an online school called Connexus, which later became University View Academy, and it was a game changer. I no longer felt pressured by other students or lots of people watching when I was doing my tests and other school activities. I don't know if this is similar with you, but with me for whatever reason I am pretty good at reading stories and answering things about them but for whatever reason I cannot really write essays regardless of whether it's on a computer or a piece of paper because I also can't write on paper very well, like it's really weird it's always been that way and I haven't been able to get to the bottom of it I mean I'm happy with the things that I write even though my grades don't suggest that they are very good and that's what's important. I actually have a kind of similar story with medicines. When I was 3 years old, I was talking walking doing normal things that normal 3-year-olds do, then I got a MMR shot I believe that's what it was anyway, but within 7 days I stopped talking completely, and started banging my head against the floor at random, I didn't start talking again until 6 or 7 months later. It was later on that I was diagnosed with autism, the headbanging issue didn't go away until I was about 9 or 10. I also had little to know regulation of my bowels until about age 12 and 1/2. I found that I have heard that other high functioning autistic people are visual learners, and for this reason, I am excellent at algebra one on anything that has to do with graphing, if I could see the graph and the equation that goes with it I'll understand the graph, but if I don't have that graph to give me some kind of visual reference, it all goes right down the commode. I often have a tendency to take things like computers apart and look at all the mechanical bits of cars and I believe because that way I can see it and I understand it, I won't understand how an mrl elevator works unless I see a video of one showing how the thing works at that point I know the whole thing in like 10 minutes, it's really strange and is both an advantage and a disadvantage and any time because if I don't have a visual reference on a problem then there's very little to no way of me understanding it, one of the ways that it benefits me is that my dad is blind, not legally blind and not 90% blind, 100% blind cannot see the sun and I can notice details with my eyes to his benefit because he cannot notice anything with his non functioning eyes. I just thought it was rather interesting how we have kind of grown up similarly. My parents have always supported me throughout my entire life, even when I thought otherwise.

Well, I felt like the same thing when it comes to being smart and being an idiot that we don't have to keep humbling and downgrading ourselves while other "Smart" are standing up and saying "Look at us and how great we at being smart", While us would say keep saying, "We're ashamed of ourselves for being an idiot", that's a terrible thing if they did suffer from depression and make things a lot more worse to have a giant impact to all of us.

Very nice job, Andrew! I've always been a big fan of you and your channel.
Here's a little of my background: I never really was normal by general standards, I was always a "lone wolf," if you will. It felt bad to be shunned by my peers for the longest time. I think I too had some kind of low-grade form of autism. I never felt normal. I had some trouble during puberty as well with developing properly, but I'm through that!
Okay, let's shift gears now... I didn't really realize that I possibly some kind of a abnormality until my parents started joking about my slightly erratic/unusual behavior! LOL Even before that, as well as now, I've always been drawn to the more unusual fandoms or hobbies, ones that a lot of people with developmental issues tend to be attracted to. Now, I'm pretty normal (with the exception of all my strange interests), I'm super healthy, and I don't have any kind of problems like that anymore.
As far as my social life is concerned, everybody likes me and I tend to fit in now! ;) I'm 18 and I have a job, so here's to being normal! xD I'm also an elevator enthusiast, volunteer firefighter, and a soon-to-be reserve police officer. I've also got endless interests (and a pursuit to know a little about everything), including being a member of the furry fandom. On that topic, I'm one of less than ten known elevator enthusiasts who are also furries! Top Hound and NationalElevator come to mind right now.
    Cheers!
    -Nathan

I experienced something similar to your story about getting stuck in an elevator, and just having to return to that interest despite what would scare NT kids off it for good.
My interest has always been electrical, I didn't want toy cars I wanted power cords and strips. So when I was about 5 I got my first 240V electric shock, from hand through feet to earth ground. Wow that was a pretty scary experience, especially at that age. My description of it was "being hit as hard as one can whack a wet pool noodle on your back". Despite that though I still couldn't stop my obsession and still love it, the parents even tried to put a stop to it.

I was a very awkward student. None of the teachers could figure out what was wrong with me. They did an IQ test that showed I was borderline retarded. I think it was a load of bs. I have a pretty normal life and a good job that I'm sure many wouldn't be able to do. Btw, one of these days I'm going to try and find out what kind of freight elevators we have at work and let you know.

Hi 👋 me and my boyfriend have autism and learning disabilities and difficulties but I get around a lot but sometimes I struggle but apart from that I love 💕 your videos and yes I do have Asperger’s syndrome I love collecting buses and trains 🚂 and colouring and drawing ✍️ but school was very hard for me because I got bullied all the way through and I always got into trouble for the slightest little thing and not doing my work because i didn’t understand it. It was awful when I found out I had it but I’m ok with it but my family help me if I struggle with anything they help me with money I would like to meet up but we are far apart from each other I’m in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 And I don’t know where you’re from but I love exploring around the elevators and stuff it really interests me also I love your little train 🚂 keep making videos have a good read and I’ll keep commenting on your other videos thanks for understanding that I’m just like you and you are awesome 😎🤝👏🏻
