Black Light Theatre of Prague: Alice in Wonderland (1994)

This is something that I had been trying to find for 7 years! It is a beautiful and very surreal version of Alice produced by the Black Light Theatre of Prague in 1994. I transferred this copy from a very rare Japanese VHS tape (hence the Japanese voiceover), which seems to have been the only release this has ever received worldwide.

I saw the Black Light Aspects of Alice about twenty years ago. This isn't that production because that had the music a Smetana but this is visually very similar. A great find.

Fantastic production. It's a shame that they didn't do a close-up on Alice's face when she was made very large untill she was being shrunk down. Until that shot I thought they used a dummy for her face cause the effect couldn't be achieved otherwise. Meanwhile the actress was probably emoting all over, and it's a shame we didn't get to see it.
As beautiful and childlike as I expected, and in some places even more. I hope one day to see a Srenc Theatre production live on stage
